Realistically there should be some regulations decided regarding immigration.
Because in the EU, you have freedom of movement. People have moved to the UK and made residence there. Some have lived their whole life their, legally, not as a citizen of the UK. And vice vice versa, UK citizens have moved to other countries, again legally, but now won't have access to that ability.
Now I'm against all special trade deals. The market will sort that out. But I think at minimum some rules have to be drawn up to allow people living in the EU to either return to or leave the UK legally, in a time frame that allows them to realistically uproot life. Most will have jobs or family etc.
I think the EU and UK should give people a special temporary visa with X time to get their affairs in order and move (maybe a 2 year visa?) Maybe give them the option to apply for citizenship in whatever country if they've lived there X years or can demonstrate in some way they've moved there permanently. Give people X time to apply. Then if they don't, they become illegal once their Visa expires, and then kick them out.
I think that's a rational approach.
