If the only place we are going for news is social media sites, the problem isnt their censorship, alone. However, they shouldnt be allowed to be in our country without following our laws esp. regarding public forums for speech, news, and political speech in particilar.

13

Used by who? despite Trump social media has only gained influence and done more to censor conservatives in the past few years.

They haven't screwed themselves because they know they control the narrative & won't be harmed.

11
Afeazo 11 points ago +11 / -0

I’ve had a lot of friends who aren’t even into politics delete social media and even use Reddit less because it’s just becoming a bunch of garbage.

12
Journey95 12 points ago +12 / -0

Social Media was a mistake. Leftists went full retard & gained a lot of power once it became relevant. I miss the 90s (and before that)

Lunatics always existed but they never had so much influence as they do now

4
Afeazo 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yea I always thought of this as a “no shit” situation. All the looneys are retards in all the basements across America used to be shunned for their dumb ideas and banished to the basement but now they are able to congregate online and appear to have a large presence. Plus they can sit on the computer 16 hours a day every day posting non stop to make it look like there’s more of them then there really is.

And there’s a reason they target children, easier to brainwash them to these ideals. Social media is trash but the internet was much better before getting connected was as simple as buying a phone and downloading an app.

2

2
Carry_Your_Name 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, tell you what, you put aside whatever contents or lack thereof on those platforms for a moment, they are a huge drain of your time, the way they work is highly addictive, tempting you to check up responses and updates every minute, making you super anxious, distracting you from what you're supposed to do in real life. It's called DOOMSCROLLING for a reason. People from both sides have begun to realize these harmful psychological effects.

2
Mad_Maximo 2 points ago +3 / -1

I am intrigued. How can this be used against them?

1

20
Journey95 20 points ago +20 / -0

In 2016 they were got off guard by how much Trump appealed to the average American & how nasty Hillary was.

Now they know it and are protecting Biden 100% (way more than they did with Hillary) while they trash Trump 24/7 and silence conservatives.

Fucking traitors

1
WokenBroke 1 point ago +1 / -0

But that tactic only works on people who are shielded from the truth completely. Bubbles are very very thin and easy to pop, it just takes a tiny bit of truth.

Did the left really think that in the age of the internet where everyone has mobile access 24/7 they could keep the bubble going?

I worry they have other tricks up their sleeve. Surely they didn't bet the farm on keeping enough people in the dark in the information age.

We need a new meme: SPREAD THE TRUTH, where the goal is to share something, anything really, with a bubble person.

3
HyperCarbs 3 points ago +3 / -0

They are just a platform, guys.

108
Dergy 108 points ago +108 / -0

Yeah, but they can't ban pics....just saying.

63
Shoe 63 points ago +63 / -0

Any pic that gains any sort of traction will be removed

30
Dergy 30 points ago +31 / -1

Unless you take your own pic of that pic. Pixels won't match up.

19
Shoe 19 points ago +19 / -0

Yeah but I'm saying if it gets any good amount of attention they'll manually remove it. They'll probably lock your account too.

11
Dergy 11 points ago +12 / -1

They would need an army for that.

11
Shoe 11 points ago +13 / -2

Not when the website is filled with rabid leftists who will spam report it

13
Dergy 13 points ago +13 / -0

In the meantime between them reporting it and it getting spread around, you'll get the message out.

5
BasedMedicalDoctor 5 points ago +5 / -0

Don’t be a negative Karen. Come up with solutions, not reasons why you shouldn’t try.

1
Shoe 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm not saying don't try at all. I'm pointing out how fucked big tech is

1
1A_FTW 1 point ago +1 / -0

Herein lies the problem.

5
Bewbskizzle 5 points ago +5 / -0

Yes but the neural network image recognition software they use will pick it up.

1
vicentezo04 1 point ago +1 / -0

Would changing the color balance or overlaying some random noise fuck up the algorithm?

1
deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
-2
Dergy -2 points ago +1 / -3

Only if it's the same pic. If the pixels keep changing, it won't work.

7
4Christ 7 points ago +7 / -0

Unfortunately, this is incorrect. It is very easy to detect the image with minor pixel changes using image recognition software / machine learning.

-3
Dergy -3 points ago +2 / -5

They don't have that kind of sophisticated technology. I know someone who does, and his software ain't cheap.

4
magacoder 4 points ago +4 / -0

There are perceptual hashes that don't even use ML for this. It's been around for decades.

The ML itself is not that complicated or expensive either, especially for a tech company like Twitter.

2
TheEmoEngineer 2 points ago +2 / -0

we might just end up training the bot to work better... :| but we must try.

3
MediumWar 3 points ago +3 / -0

He means it'll be removed manually.

1
Dergy 1 point ago +2 / -1

I understand, and I've had to remove things manually like that before, and it's a real pain in the ass and takes a long time.

1
Jaqen 1 point ago +1 / -0

They hire small armies of staff to manually curate content. Then they have rather sophisticated AI to help with the curation.

1
Dergy 1 point ago +2 / -1

Then go put it to the test.

1
Jaqen 1 point ago +1 / -0 (edited)

Thanks but no thanks. I don’t partake in social media.

Edit: For anyone else reading this sad thread, FFWD to the end where I take the gloves off:

https://thedonald.win/p/HrOtjvlY/x/c/199OP7VPvi

1
Dergy 1 point ago +1 / -0

Umm, this is social media....

1
Jaqen 1 point ago +1 / -0

No. This is an anonymous online forum, the likes of which predate any mention of social media by decades.

1
ianpatrick1966 1 point ago +1 / -0

They can detect if a picture is something copyrighted, even if it's not exactly the same picture. YouTube can detect if video is roughly the same, even though it's re-compressed, which is why people alter the speed, flip the image, and stretch/squash it.

Therefore they can detect if it's basically the same screenshot.

You'd be amazed when it comes to getting rich people's nudes off social media the technology they have. I have seen it first hand, taking a picture of a photo on the screen and uploading to facebook, removed in seconds.

-1
Dergy -1 points ago +1 / -2

And I've kept copies of copyrighted material on youtube for months before they got around to banning them.

2
ianpatrick1966 2 points ago +2 / -0

Perhaps the copyright holder didn't upload the content to Youtubes checking systems called Copyright Match Tool. It doesn't magically detect all copyrighted content just things added to match tool. Which is the same way Twitter works. They add images that are forbidden to their match tool and it detects them based on similarities. It basically takes a fingerprint of the image looking at overall lines (not pixels) and edges and detects infringement based on that.

You're arguing with the wrong person on this, kiddo, because I deal with this stuff 7 days a week 365 days a year for my career.

0
Dergy 0 points ago +1 / -1

Sure, uh-huh, that's why you prefaced your argument with "perhaps." I mean, anything's possible, right?

2
ianpatrick1966 2 points ago +2 / -0

Are you illiterate?

2
RawRamen 2 points ago +2 / -0

And people HAVE been posting pics and getting their account suspended for it.

1
Miztivin 1 point ago +1 / -0

I guess the same applies for archive links?

2
SirBuzzKillingtonVI 2 points ago +2 / -0

Also, why not just post shortened links (bit.ly) or archive it on archive.is and then use that link?

1
Dergy 1 point ago +1 / -0

So many ways to get around it.

2
FuckRioters 2 points ago +2 / -0

It can be done, but only if they've put in the effort to read text in images, and then ban certain phrases in those images. That's not something that can be added overnight, but there are plenty of ways to do it that aren't that challenging.

Twitter could probably implement and launch a feature like that in a month if they invested enough resources into it.

And someone has already archived it:

If they block that archive link, just resubmit the original article link at archive.is. It’ll take you to the most recently archived version and it’ll ask “want to archive it again?” Say yes and it’ll re-archive it and give you a new link to the same article. You can then post the fresh, new archive link which they won’t yet have blocked.

Here’s anothher archive link to the same article: https://archive.is/y2RsY

It would make for a more powerful statement if people stopped bitching about twitter censorship and just take the high road, the way capitalism was intended, and stop using it all together. social media platforms like FB and twitter are straight up cancer, i dont understand why anyone at this point would be willing continue to support those platforms by having an active profile, even its its just to troll. youre funding the opposition. its baffling to me. maybe im missing something

Democrats are fighting for a corporatist globalist unitary state where you no longer have individual rights, only privileges that can be granted, restricted or revoked at whim.

Trump is fighting for a populist nationalist federal state where individual rights and liberties are guaranteed and safe-guarded because they are endowed by God.

You can have one or the other - they are incompatible.
