Douglas Murray has a recent interview where he likens it to accusing someone of pedophilia on TV.

"Hey, don't pedophiles support you? Aren't you into that? Explain to me why everyone shouldn't think you like having sex with kids. Can you publicly disavow pedophilia?"

Cue indignation

"Oh I'm sorry. I thought we were playing the game of accusing each other of stuff that would destroy our public lives?"

"This pedophile voted for you! Are YOU a pedophile?!?! DENOUNCE HIM!" How ridiculous does this sound?

21
Ham_Sandwich77 21 points ago +21 / -0

The irony being there's a lot more evidence that Biden's a pedophile than there is that Trump is a racist.

8
Philhelm 8 points ago +8 / -0

I understand the sentiment, but racism isn't even in the same universe as pedophilia.

MAGAstroni 6 points ago +6 / -0

Pedophilia being infitely worse.

seaside_dreams 0 points ago +1 / -1

It may be worse but it's more legal than the N word in California.

NvJohansson 4 points ago +4 / -0

Or a non sequitur question like "Do you still fuck children?" A yes or no answer will suffice...

19
SemperFree 19 points ago +19 / -0

Perhaps worse. N word is derogatory certainly. However, in today's woke climate a label of racist or white Supremecist can ruin your career and have huge social impacts.

Only time I hear the N word is when I work out to rap. /Shrug

And white people don't go around assaulting, murdering, looting and losing their mind over being mocked, but 1 word causes a chimp out. Yet white people are the supposedly fragile ones.

Glentennis 3 points ago +3 / -0

Apparently we're supposed to treat black people like rabid vicious attack dogs, just waiting for you to accidentally say the wrong word so they can do what they REALLY wanna do

5
orange_dit 5 points ago +5 / -0

Exactly. It is just an insult. One of the worst insults. But still just an insult. It is the only insult that seems to have consequences. Using the Lord's name in vain or using sexual slang or insults in front of children is somehow accepted.

orange_dit 2 points ago +2 / -0

Because of its historical use during the horrible time of slavery and segreation. Other insults do not have a simular historical context. By itself it is not insulting at all. It literally means black. In Dutch we have the word neger for blacks which is a neutral term. Although in recent years activists have tried to connect it to the n-word even though there is no historical connection to it. And there is Niger and Nigeria in Africa.

orange_dit 2 points ago +2 / -0

I agree with you. It is a form of control to treat that word as it is a mortal sin, especially if they allow others to use that term without any consequences. They should stop treating it as sacred. The problem is that they have normalized the use of inappropriate language in general, so if the n-word gets the same treatment as other words it becomes common.

JohnBrownsBody 12 points ago +12 / -0

Eh, give it no power. Half the reason Europe is as cucked as it is, is fear of that word.

Good make sure you go after Fox news

32
vovchykbratyk 32 points ago +32 / -0

This needs to happen. Covington changed everything. Precedent is on the PB's side if they stick with this and see it through.

7
Friendly_B 7 points ago +7 / -0

Maybe they will continue to double down and we can go after their parent corporations.

4
somercet 4 points ago +4 / -0

No, it didn't. The "public figure" exception applies here.

Cf. Instapundit's Rethinking Libel for the Twenty-First Century, Tennessee Law Review, August 6, 2020.

Also the Paul Newman/Sally Field film Absence of Malice. Note, throughout the movie, they say nothing about NYT v. Sullivan.

4
45fan 4 points ago +4 / -0

Covington didn't though. The idiot news just forgot that it's basically legal to lie about public figures and not private ones.

They'll argue in court that the Proud Boys are famous so they get to lie about them.

IN Talks with Lin Wood? (hope so).

5
Boudicca2 5 points ago +5 / -0

Good. And I hope GEOTUS does some research on this group and finds out that it's NOT a white supremacist or racist group, and that the current spokesperson, Enrique Tarrio is a fervent supporter and important grassroots organizer for MAGA, as he leads Latinos For Trump in Florida. I hope the president clarifies his thoughts on this group once he realizes he was being set up by the dirty Democrats to "disavow" people that are part of his base and aren't doing anything wrong.

BrianSolo 5 points ago +5 / -0

I knew about the PB before all this and thought they were whatever, but never as racist. I know Gavin isn’t racist. He says provocative things to BE FUNNY. And to MAKE PEOPLE THINK. However I never cared one way or the other about them because they’re a glorified beer drinking club. Now I find myself defending them almost every day on Facebook out of principle. Gavin is 100% right, and I’ve been saying this in my circles for years: the left is incapable of nuance.

Sorry, but the times we live in require change. Most of us would rather not, and typically don't need to, get in someone's face and shout to make their point.

But, we've moved past the point where they are capable of hearing reason. We must condition their behavior. If the only thing that reaches them is loud rebukes nose to nose, then that is the course we must choose. I'm not saying be violent. I am saying: be forceful.

We can't keep failing, playing at being Paul Ryan, while telling ourselves we are "moral" for it. Failure in this leads directly to the most immoral society imaginable. One where accusation is proof, quantifiable fact is itself racist, and lowest common denominator people have power over all.

We are playing well past what our parent's taught, way out of bounds of the game as we've known it. That is where the game is being played. Denial of that is moronic. We can demand that the game be moved back to where it belongs, but that is pointless, because they refuse. Trump understands this, which is why he wins. ALL of us must stop disparaging him for simply playing the game by the rules they have created, then beating them at it.

I know it's uncomfortable. Doubly so for a people whose every effort is at least partially predicated on seeking personal comfort/comfort with others.

But there it is.

Murphl 2 points ago +2 / -0

I would donate to that - is there a fund?

Hopefully he touches base with Lin Wood

3
NvJohansson 3 points ago +3 / -0

I'm sure Lin Wood is aware. He works on a contingency basis, so suing multinationals for 500 million is right up his alley

1
NvJohansson 1 point ago +1 / -0

Don't forget Fred Perry.

e_pluribus_unum9 1 point ago +2 / -1

Suing is the weapon of choice. When money talks, they will shut up.

1
Troll 1 point ago +2 / -1

Should sue Trump too for that cowardly part where he called the PBs white supremacists. I still like Trump but I'm really tired on how we get NO defense from anyone.

0
pineapple 0 points ago +3 / -3

These are men who call themselves boys and they are proud of it!

-1
streakybacon -1 points ago +1 / -2

Wouldn't they have to sue Trump too?

2
Walbort 2 points ago +2 / -0

Lol, nobody is forced to sue someone. If anything, it makes their case for Biden defaming them.

1
Boudicca2 1 point ago +1 / -0

Trump never really specifically said "Proud Boys are White Supremacists" He said he didn't know about them or who they were twice and then made a general condemnation of "White supremacists" like the Klan.

2
streakybacon 2 points ago +2 / -0

It was pretty damn close.

I’ve said it many times, let me be clear again, I condemn the KKK,” Trump declared on Thursday. “I condemn all white supremacists, I condemn the Proud Boys. I don’t know much about the Proud Boys, almost nothing, but I condemn that

This was in response to being asked if he would denounce 'white supremacists' and he said "you have to denounce any form of that", then followed with the above statement.

Very hard to read/hear that without taking it as an (false) admission that the Proud Boys are white supremacists.

This was the first and hopefully last time I've ever been disappointed by Trump and I put it down to him possibly being sick. I wish he'd pushed back harder on that question being ridiculous and had not condenned the Proud Boys which I feel was totally uneccessary.

Either way, I understand what he was trying to do but I really feel it was a mistake. He said himself he doesn't know much about the Proud Boys and I think he got roped into saying it. I'm hoping he ignores these types of questions from here out.

1
Boudicca2 1 point ago +1 / -0

I hadn't seen that comment. He was more cautious before in his words but he obviously didn't even know what he was condemning and either made an assumption, which he should not be doing, or was influenced by the Lindsey Graham Republicans of the world that are either naively or maliciously spreading the smear. I know if GEOTUS knew Enrique Tarrio was a Proud Boy he would not take a shot at Enrique Tarrio. But I have to agree, he needs to correct this and it was wrong and stupid to allow himself to be goaded into offending a very loyal segment of his base in order to be "acceptable" to the media or whatever. He should know better. They'll never stop calling him a racist no matter who he condemns and no matter how many times. He fell into a trap. Maybe it was because he was started to get sick and got mentally fuzzy.

2
streakybacon 2 points ago +2 / -0

I personally think he'll do something about it. I reckon he'll give a shout out to the Proud Boys for something good they've done, or he'll meet up with one of them or something. Then the media will go crazy again saying "but he condemned them reeeee"
