If you can do math to create a lock then someone else can do better math to undo the lock.

Algorithms are math.

23
Toys 23 points ago +24 / -1

While this is true, there are some encryption methods that we just don't have the time and/or computing power to decrypt yet. No matter what you think the NSA/FBI/CIA/Etc has, some of it is still just outside our current abilities. There's also the fact that in order to reverse the algorithm, you need to know the algorithm. And in order to know the algorithm, you need to know all the arguments (in encryption, the key(s)).

You can get those through hacking, social engineering, etc. You can also get them through brute force. The problem there is, brute forcing some of these algorithms is impossible. Take AES-256 for example, I'll skip the math, but it would take the fastest supercomputer in the world 27,337,893 trillion trillion trillion trillion years to brute force its way through all possible keys. Seeing as the universe is only roughly 15 billion years old, there's not enough time in existence for this to be a possibility.

And there's other mechanisms of "encryption", which aren't really encryption but hashing. Something like MD5, which hashes the same data into the same result every single time. It's impossible to reverse this and, thus, impossible to "crack". It's terrible for encryption because, as stated, it cannot be reversed and so the MD5 hash is useless to someone trying to read the message you sent them.

Example:

15 % 4 = 3

x % 4 = 3

Even though you know the algorithm, it would be impossible to solve for X as there are multiple values that work: 3, 7, 11, 15, etc.

and if you are into conspiracy theories, the NSA requires those companies to provide the backdoor math/algo.

spinometer 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yes but the math to create a lock can be billions of orders of magnitude easier than the math to unlock it. That's why encryption "works".

Backdoors can be of many kinds.

DoYouBelieveInMAGA -3 points ago +4 / -7

Eh, I just don't buy it. Big stretch for me to believe our government hasn't broken it already.

BUT, even if the technology is unbreakable, I don't buy that they can't get into devices through other means. The whole ordeal with "Apple refusing to give the government access" to that guy's phone awhile back, absolutely no way. I guarantee our government can either break the encryption or has backdoors. And everybody always replies "you just don't understand, it's literally impossible, it would take a bazillion years trying to hard break it". Nope, not buying it.

And to add on, don't you think they could analyze a phone screen and find out the code based on most-used areas of the phone, or something?

Kinda all over the place on my reply but I'm eating lunch in a rush.

I think the whole point of this sub-thread is that they thought their chat was encrypted. Obviously, them thinking that, didn't mean a damn thing, because in the end, they were caught. I won't brag about my intelligence... don't have a clue what my IQ is, because I hate those annoying "find the pattern" questions... but I assume I'm around average. I took some intro criminology courses, watch true crime stories, and even old Columbo episodes, and come to the conclusion that if I wanted to get away with something (I don't)... I wouldn't. I think to myself, "Oops, I would have done that, too. Wouldn't have made that mistake, but I sure would have made that one-!" etc. Idiots following this pair would probably think, "Ah, but when we do it, our chat will be encrypted!" Most criminals are pretty stupid... at least, the ones you hear about.

Not everyone in government is evil & corrupt. It's primarily those in power who want to destroy our country. There are plenty of little guys doing great work behind the scenes.

24
Smurfection 24 points ago +28 / -4

I bet there are more socialists trying to destroy America than "little guys doing great work". Anyway, stop trying to convince us that guys working for government are selfless public servants. They aren't. They work for a paycheck like the rest of us and the benefits and perks of being a government employee are phenomenal, not to mention the fact that it's nearly impossible to be fired. All in all, I think government workers are the laziest and least productive workers.

12
grassshrimp 12 points ago +12 / -0

I'm retired now, but worked with many Federal, State and Local Governments. The vast majority are incompetent shithead bullies that paid the private sector to do their jobs for them and at the same time treat us like shit because they had the power.

9
Smurfection 9 points ago +9 / -0

That's pretty much my opinion too. It's not that they are public servants. It's that they think they are better than the public because they think they're selfless for not working for a profit motive. The fact is though, they are working for a profit motive. They are working for wages that are statistically above what most make in the private sector, they have benefits that don't ever exist in the private sector and it is nearly impossible to fire them. They all think they have a right to the money that we, in the private sector, give them through taxes. I laugh uproariously when government workers say they are taxpayers too. No, they aren't. They are paid with taxes. They treat people who work in the private sector as if we are beneath them because they think somehow that having a profit motive makes the work more selfish and mean, but they are the ones who treat their "customers" as if they are stupid, selfish and with contempt.

This gov't worker thinks you can go fuck yourself. You sound like you're hopelessly bitter that we do have a good benefits package and you probably don't. I've been in USCS for 16 years and 10 years in the navy before that. Most gov't are just normal people who want to do their job and go home at the end of the day. You're just doing one of our versions of virtue signaling "look at me guys, see how cool I am, I said I hate gov't employees". If all those people you just insulted disappeared, you'd be amazed how fast your lifestyle collapsed, along with infrastructure and the military.

As for being very hard to fire, yes, it's true. Do you know why, I bet not.

The reason firing (non-political appointee) is difficult for gov't workers is to prevent a new administration coming in and firing everyone and hiring their supporters.

12
Smurfection 12 points ago +12 / -0

If "all those people I just insulted disappeared" this country would magically turn into a half way decent paradise.

Government isn't the solution to our problems. Government is the problem.

Your statements and the statement that government institutions perform like monopolistic companies that have little interest and often actually perverse incentives when it comes to helping customers can both be true.

No one is saying all government workers are bad or working for the government is a bad thing. What is for sure though is that McDonald's has never done me wrong. Government or even business which are through licensing and regulations given government monopolies like banks and healthcare are the least responsive to the people they claim to serve. The institution continues to exist not based on how well they perform their stated goals but how well their PR is and how much money they take in by ingratiating themselves with the swamp. When they come through it is often because of workers initiatives and not due to a top down policy.

Government is a neccessary evil because there is no better way to dispense justice and keep law and order that we know. But whatever the optimal size of government is, the US has passed that line a long time ago.

This case just barely became public. The odds are still pretty good that when the whole story comes out these will be two otherwise wholly incapable idiots with mental issues who got ‘radicalized’ and made ‘capable’ by the FBI itself, then fooled or simply led using psychological manipulation tactics into sufficiently crossing some legal line that allows charges to be laid.

We’ll only know the whole story a year or two from now

It still bothers me that they didn’t take him and instead probably hired a ciarmella or diversity candidate with a gender studies degree. I have a lot of Muslim friends from a lot of time in the MENA. They were all born in various countries in the MENA and served the US as interpreters, etc. Some emigrated to the US. None of them are radical, they all hate the misery and abuse in their home countries. I have and do trust them with my life and they me with theirs. Some of them have a 'way out' by quietly not making their children Muslim.

The threat of being beheaded for leaving Islam is very real. Your family will shun you, someone will probably try to kill you. I also know a couple former Muslims who converted to Christianity and I'm in awe of their conviction.

I will never trust an American convert. Anyone born here to non-Muslim parents has no excuse. Any American who converts to Islam is someone who has a fundamental hate for what we are. I'm willing to change my mind on that when I meet an American convert to Islam who is an actual patriot. Hasn't happened, probably won't happen.

My 40+ year old brother was dating a Muslim girl for a while and was saying all this “Inshalla” bullshit but she went full stalker on him when he got bored after 30 days as he always does. Now he’s with some SJW and he’s got full on TDS. Some dudes are just weak and they go where their women go.

I’ll fuck with him once in a while and say “you’re bored and will break up with her in 3....2....” and the he breaks up. He’s married now but I feel like my pointing it out to him he forced himself to be married and now he has TDS. Long story short he’s just an addict for relationships

2
MSG1000 2 points ago +2 / -0

The public not knowing means there’s no push to fix anything. If you’re not full of it then these attacks come from a source; a problem, a group, or a person.

1
DocOne 1 point ago +1 / -0

True but there's always someone else. If I tell you about the thousands of "credible" threats and stop all of them, there's 1000 more right behind it. Look how scared people are over a gay virus. What do you think would happen if the general public knew about every threat? The place would collapse.

2
MSG1000 2 points ago +2 / -0

The public is only panicking because politicians, government employees, celebrities, scientists, the media, etc. are all lying to them about it.

All you have to do is tell them the truth and point out the source of it. So long as you don’t appear clueless normal people don’t panic.

1
DocOne 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's probably a fair point. Maybe I have less faith in people than you.

2
MSG1000 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don’t blame you for low faith, but a unique red pill years ago was getting liberals to agree to things the right likes by relabeling it, changing who said it or by applying it differently. An example of the latter was Ivy League kids hating the idea of the redistribution of grades for fairness because they earned their grade.

When people are informed, keep an open but not braindead mind and aren’t lied they generally end up solid as fuck. That’s why the deep state attacked culture before going into institutions; culture can ultimately withstand anything but unlike laws and systems it takes upkeep like a body. We’ve done the basics of eating and breathing so well we forgot to train it with “exercise” unlike the commies. Conservatives just leaving major cities and institutions meant that the traditional american culture wasn’t being exercised as a whole for the population so it’s become flabbier (as an average).

Now if only take that advice for my own body. Sigh.

We totally stopped this plot you guys, right in the middle of devastating news about how we tried to overthrow the president you all elected.

HCQaddict 3 points ago +3 / -0

LMAO the good men and women at the FBI all deserve pay raises after this!

Liberty-Or-Death 10 points ago +10 / -0

Why don't they simply rent some big fucking trucks and distribute their religion of peace to the nightly zombie hoards in the streets? They used to yearn for opportunities like this. Makes ya think they are too busy on the streets marching.

Italians_Invented_2A 7 points ago +7 / -0

The answer is: because they are on the same side.

Says he wanted his attack to be "Netflix worthy". Was he going to exploit underage girls in the process?

slaphappy2 8 points ago +8 / -0

This makes a lot of sense.

The FBI has been spying on Trump, Team Trump and Trump Tower for many years - at the behest of the Obama administration.

If there is one place in the country that the FBI knows how to do surveillance on - it has got to be Trump Tower.

1
HCQaddict 1 point ago +1 / -0

FBI planned this!

7
South_Florida_Guy 7 points ago +7 / -0

Democrats would have cheered buildings being bombed by ISIS in NYC.

7
yeetmylife 7 points ago +7 / -0

Wow. All this negative stuff comes out about the FBI and their texts, and then the next day there is a big beautiful story about how the FBI stops a terrorist attack....at Trump Tower no less. Ha

4
wapsi109283 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yup, amazing how that works isn’t it.

1
HCQaddict 1 point ago +1 / -0

It is almost as if they threw their terrorist "suspects" under the bus!

6
Top-Secret-KGB-Agent 6 points ago +6 / -0

Biden voters are such violent fanatics.

6
Gr4ck3L 6 points ago +6 / -0

Not sure what the FBI waits for. If these chuckleheads come up hot in surveillance, they should bag them on the spot. Literally.

5
IncredibleMrE1 5 points ago +5 / -0

The FBI almost always has intel ahead of time that these lunatics are radical, and lets them run wild anyway. The Russians warned us about the Boston Marathon bombers. The FBI knew about the San Bernardino terrorists. The FBI knew about the Pulse Nightclub shooter. They did a piss-poor job of covering up Las Vegas. The kid who shot up the high school in Florida had been reported to them TWICE for terrorist threats he made on Youtube.

2
HCQaddict 2 points ago +2 / -0

FBI is useless!

5
nobletanker81 5 points ago +5 / -0

Guess that free encrypted chat program wasn’t so encrypted after all...

2
ryuaz 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah what the hell? I want to know what software they were using that was so poor that they could just easily be spied on like that.

3
nobletanker81 3 points ago +3 / -0

"Totally not made by the CIA - instant messenger encrypted app"

5
LittleBlackKat 5 points ago +5 / -0

It is the absolute, very least the FBI will do. And they do it grudgingly. If they could get away with it, the FBI would simply ignore these threats. Hell, I would not be surprised if the FBI is behind the threat to begin with. The FBI just cannot be trusted.

Director Wray is a fucking enemy of the American people. How this freak is not in prison is beyond me.

5
LittleBlackKat 5 points ago +5 / -0

Remember. Today is Friday. In mosques and madrassas across the country, imams will be preaching violence and sedition against America. These enemy scumbags should all be deported from America. They hate us, our culture, and our God.

Fuck Islam.

Ya know, I'm all for the rank & file praise, as most in this group are so compartmentalized, they really don't have a full picture of events or issues. However, you can't tell me that these same rank & file were able to take out insurance policies for self protection, but couldn't blow a whistle, banding together to take out or at least stifling the corruption they did see for the public they serve. Wray is swamp to the bone and a cover dude for many crimes, but I'm still wondering about the rest...

GITO for this faggot

4
idm03 4 points ago +4 / -0

Feels eerily similar to the FBI telling Trump that he has nothing to worry about...

3
HCQaddict 3 points ago +3 / -0

America never needed cops or we would have put them in the constitution.

3
idm03 3 points ago +3 / -0

Depression-era bank robbing sprees begetting the FBI generally follows the same template as the robber barons begetting the Federal Reserve - we are being 'saved' with our own ropes around our necks.

4
Lavoier2410 4 points ago +4 / -0

Good thing DeBlahzo marked the spot in front of Trump Tower so they could find it easy.

I call them "TOAST".

What you mean is the fbi planned a terror plot and then swooped in to save the day in order to make themselves appear useful

Yes

3

Immediately investigate everyone that spells their name in a fucked up, “LOOK AT ME!!!” fashion.

3

Netflix is a terrorist organization!

3
AmericaFirstPepe 3 points ago +3 / -0

I bet that physically pains Chris Wray.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he tried to sabotage the investigation.

3
sGensui 3 points ago +3 / -0

Bet the Clinton Foundation funded this considering Hillary and Obama created Isis.

2

The scary part is how easily these peabrains could have gone unnoticed if they hadn't used communications capable of being intercepted by the FBI.
