They charged them with a felony for returning fire lol The crowd is pissed.

He got charged for the bullets that went into the neighbors apartments nothing about shooting the drug dealing bitch.

Still stupid as fuck to be charged for...

458
christianknight 458 points ago +475 / -17

actually, any of us would be charged for that so im good with the police getting hit with the same treatment

The mob is going to riot anyways though so

123
RopeForCNN 123 points ago +169 / -46

except you should be pissed that any of us would be charged with that. it's now literally illegal to defend yourself against the mob

IthoughtIwalked 223 points ago +236 / -13 (edited)

Not true. The detective charged fired like 10 shots randomly, right? The other officers weren't charged that fired their weapons. Had Breonna ended up with 10 more holes in her, he wouldn't have been charged. It was the idea that those shots could have injured people in other apartments.

The real BS isn't necessarily this charge, but moreso the charges against Kyle who had impeccable accuracy and discipline.

Edit: It appears the two other officers were 6/22 combined accuracy, and the charged officer was 0/10 shooting from outside the home and through the bedroom to the targets, while the uncharged officers were shooting directly down the hall.

181
tdavis25 181 points ago +192 / -11

So much this. That officer shouldnt have been shooting blindly.

41
spezisapedo 41 points ago +43 / -2

exactly. He could have hit other officers or a child. If shots are being fired and you dont have a sight picture... you need to hide and take cover

-8
JoinTheDiscussion -8 points ago +29 / -37

bullets coming through a wall or door towards you.. wtf do you do?!

-33
Liganthropic -33 points ago +42 / -75

When you're being shot at from behind a wall, what do you do? Just put your hands up and go "oh well"?

Gtfo.

84
Averon 84 points ago +86 / -2

Yeah, Kyle should have not been charged. If he'd fired shots off with no specific target, that would be different. But he sent every round where he intended it to go in a high stress situation. He did good.

Its crap that he got charged, however i doubt he will be convicted. No police officer to my knowledge has ever been convicted of an errant bullet during a firefight. its not as if he went all Yosemite Sam when the shots were fired.

9
PB_Mack 9 points ago +9 / -0

Yep. Every different angle of a video I see for that just underscores how impressive that kid's firing was. No wasted shots. No wild firing. He's going to sue Kenosha for millions I bet.

9
spezisapedo 9 points ago +9 / -0

KYLE IS A SKILLED AMERICAN HERO.

39
mugwump 39 points ago +39 / -0

Its tough when your being shot at, it really is and I empathize with that detective, but you are responsible for where you shoot. Don't forget we carry to protect life, blindly returning a wall of lead does not accomplish that. I think a slap on the wrist is somewhat reasonable, we would have all been charged the same.

20
Sandman441 20 points ago +22 / -2

Same I have no problem with the ruling.

15
rabdargab 15 points ago +15 / -0

they held us liable for that shit in a warzone, so its only fair a police officer is held to the same standard.

9
booblitchutz 9 points ago +10 / -1

You are responsible for every bullet that comes out of your weapon. I think this applies to everyone, not just police officers.

18
jasper_db1 18 points ago +18 / -0

Correct. LEO and CCW's are liable for every bullet. Make them count.

18
IthoughtIwalked 18 points ago +19 / -1

Yep, and they should be liable. If the narrative that Breonna was an innocent bystander was true, the officers should have been charged with more. However, the lies propagated by the MSM have blown this out of proportion, and it appears the charges are fair.

Also, increased LEO funding to increase range time and discipline should be the takeaway here.

Not cool to miss your target in an apartment bldg

0
booblitchutz 0 points ago +2 / -2

Firing a weapon in densely populated area is risky as hell. Not that criminals give a shit about that risk, they certainly dont. That's why any form of attack on a police officer should always be the highest level of penalty and mandatory sentencing. You slap a cop even. Life. That'll stop this shit quick.

-4
BaldyGull -4 points ago +5 / -9

The issue started with whoever made the call to execute a no-knock warrant in an apt building.

14
IthoughtIwalked 14 points ago +14 / -0

That's something that can be discussed, however they did announce their presence. They had a no-knock warrant, true, but they did not go through with it.

1
Clsballer23 1 point ago +1 / -0

There was not a no knock warrant executed

26
christianknight 26 points ago +26 / -0

we would be lucky if they charged us with reckless endangerment, we would be charged with murder and financially ruined.

2
booblitchutz 2 points ago +3 / -1

Only if you had a maga hat on.

17
zigZag590 17 points ago +19 / -2

I disagree... It's about the fact that he put innocent people's lives in danger. I agree with this charge. Those people in the other apartment had NOTHING to do with this case.

4
WitnessMe 4 points ago +5 / -1

Its a fair charge

-2
QSWO1 -2 points ago +3 / -5

That is just part and parcel when living next to a drug dealer.

3
zigZag590 3 points ago +5 / -2

I don't agree with that. Just like you aren't responsible for the sins of your ancestors, these people aren't responsible for the sins of their neighbor who they have no connection with. I agree they would of had to suspect this day would come, but I can't blame them for living near a pusher.

You can't control who your landlord rents to. The swankiest new apartments in town have had multiple shootings. Drugs were confirmed at least once.

13
trump_lsd 13 points ago +14 / -1

How does defending yourself against the mob have anything to do with this case though? The officer fired and his bullets went into an unrelated apartment with innocent people inside. This site sometimes, man. Fucking Facebook expats come in here and drop dumb comments all over the place.

4
muslimporn 4 points ago +4 / -0 (edited)

It's not possible to achieve a guaranteed 100% hit rate every time a trigger is pulled. In some cases the fault of collateral is on whoever initiated attack. In cases where the person is defending themselves then you usually need extraordinary circumstances to hold them to account for people caught in the crossfire so to speak.

They're trying to get Rittenhouse on this. When Rosenbaum was charging him the bullets could have missed or gone through and hit others.

They're saying on that account he was wrong to defend himself and they're charging him on reckless endangerment as a result.

The moral of the story is that under the left you can get away with anything if you have a mate marking you (see football) as your own personal human shield.

Some of this is based on Hollywood where it's a trope that you're not allowed to ever kill innocents and must never leave collateral but in reality it doesn't really work like that. That's just Hollywood which is nothing like reality.

It's not like a computer game or those training scenes you see where the baddies and innocents pop out then you have to get a 100% perfect score. There are always going to be situations with risk of collateral and there's a limit to how far you can go to minimise it.

In this case however we don't have enough information. We need to see where he was, where the shooter was and where the bullets ended up. We're assuming he shot completely randomly spraying bullets all over the place but we don't really know this. They may be charging him for as little as having missed the target. If you miss bullets travel and can end up elsewhere even in normal circumstances. Strays happen.

It seems no one outside the valid target range was hit by a stray. This appears to be criminalising strays. If someone is charging you and you shoot five times to make sure you stop them and also hit them then if one misses and can be found somewhere distant then you'll be charged under this precedent.

It could turn out from the ballistics that the trajectories are all over the place but we don't know this. It's not unreasable for there to be strays even in circumstances with no wrongdoing. This could be major incompetence on his part or it could be an attempt to scapegoat him as the fall guy or it could be an attack on gun/self defence rights or an attack on the police being able to do their jobs.

36
Sixofdiamonds 36 points ago +38 / -2

I just got my concealed carry and during the process they mention that you are responsible for the entire trajectory of that bullet. If indeed a police bullet went into a neighboring apartment then I do feel like it is fair to say that someone completely innocent could have been hurt which is why the charge is wanton endangerment.

The cop was well within their right to defend themselves but even a citizen defending themselves would be charged for stray bullets putting other lives in danger. Because no harm has been done to another party I personally would be ok with fining the officer the class A misdemeanor fine of $500

14
commies0ride0free 14 points ago +14 / -0

We take continuing firearms classes and talk about this ALL THE TIME. You are responsible for the bullet until it hits the ground.

We also shoot through walls (interior and exterior, built to code) and refrigerators. These things ARE NOT COVER, even for hollow points and other self defense rounds. They will not stop a bullet

6
ConservConsciousness 6 points ago +6 / -0

What was the process for getting your conceal carry? How long did it take?

8
Smubbs [S] 8 points ago +9 / -1

depends on the state and the class you take. for me in florida I took an hour and a half lecture on the law, shot 5 rounds into a target, and that was it. Took my certificate to the tax collector, got fingerprinted and submitted an application.

4
Red37 4 points ago +4 / -0

In South Dakota I went to the sheriffs office and paid like $20, I had to wait over the weekend because the machine was broken.

That was before we switched to constitutional carry.

3
Slyhillary 3 points ago +3 / -0

They also did a background check on you.

4
mugwump 4 points ago +5 / -1

Different for every state. Go to youtube and look up conceal carry + your state, and I bet there are some really good videos.

5
FireannDireach 5 points ago +5 / -0

CA is more involved. 8 hour class, and you have to get the approval of the Sheriff, after you present 'good cause". (ie. they can turn you down for any reason.) (I'm going to get one, or apply, because I think I have cause that will pass the sniff test.) And, you have to redo ALL of it when renewing. It's a complete pain in the ass.

2
BaldyGull 2 points ago +2 / -0

Depends on state. In my state you don't even need a permit.

2
Praise_the_Load 2 points ago +2 / -0

You can get a CCW in FL without being a resident. If you're a veteran your DD214 will suffice for weapons training. My wife just got hers and it took 3 weeks.

2
LurkNoMore 2 points ago +2 / -0

Same with Virginia. Sent dd214, passport photo, money, and got my nonresident CCW permit. Just make sure the states you plan on visiting have reciprocity with FL or VA.

2
Sixofdiamonds 2 points ago +2 / -0

It took me about two weeks. It varies by state. I'd recommend looking up your local requirements.

4
droden 4 points ago +6 / -2

police need reform. better training and shooting practice under stress situations so they control their cone of fire.

3
QSWO1 3 points ago +4 / -1

Respect for the law needs the biggest reform of all. Criminal heroes, gangsta rap, and shitty parenting are causing the collapse of civil society. Cops should not have to deploy like fire teams in a third world shithole. Elected officials, and criminals are to blame not cops.

"never shoot at people shooting at you within 500 yards of other buildings. Just take the L and die".

If you shoot someone in the street, you'll probably cause injuries to people behind the shooter because of bullets or shrapnel exiting the body.

Lets talk Kyle. Shooting someone in the bicep CERTAINLY means exiting bullet or fragments at a high enoug speed to hit bystanders and injure them. Should he be charged with negligence due to hitting not-center-mass?

4
AlcoholicRetard 4 points ago +6 / -2

Kyle fired 8 shots and 6 hit their intended target, this guy fired 10 and didn’t hit anything, he was also firing from outside the building and couldn’t even see what he was shooting at. Seems a little negligent to me.

2
EvanOnTheFly 2 points ago +2 / -0

Kyle fired 4 shots.

Grand Jury is basically the DA making their best case, and if they focused on those charges, they got them. I would NOT be surprised if the thinking in the DA's office was "well, we gotta get SOMETHING to stick, or they're gonna burn down our city."

That there's no charges for shooting HER makes me wonder what the trial will show. Like, she was a shooter.

Meanwhile, on Drudge, the most important story is how to 'bypass" the election results.

Strap in, pedes. It's getting bumpy.

17
RedditIs4Retards 17 points ago +17 / -0

You are in an apartment complex doing a raid. You don't evacuate surrounding apartments but they are occupied and the suspect is armed. What do you propose?

1
bidenhasthebiggay 1 point ago +2 / -1

An AR doesnt over-penetrate. This is why they are usually the best option for home-defense and raids.

These are facts.

2
DNC_Ballot_QATeam 2 points ago +3 / -1

These are facts.

Your facts don't support cheap ass apartment walls. Ask a firefighter.

1
BaldyGull 1 point ago +2 / -1

5.56 has ridiculous penetration. 9mm or 45ACP will do much better on that front. Shotgun with buckshot will penetrate less because it is a larger projectile at slower speed. Like a bowling ball vs a knife.

3
OhShnigums 3 points ago +3 / -0

Not good in close counter

4
DNC_Ballot_QATeam 4 points ago +7 / -3

If you plan to raid an apartment, you either clean out the neighboring apartments and use whatever weapon or you use shotguns. I would be pissed as fuck if they raided my kids neighbor in an apartment using anything other than a shotgun.

1
OhShnigums 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's upwards of 8 units to clear out....no way that's happening. Not enough resources and you have to worry about someone tipping off the target address...just for a narc warrant? No way brooo

-1
DNC_Ballot_QATeam -1 points ago +1 / -2

I never suggested 8 apartments being cleared. Only the next neighbor. I had to relocate and we lived in an apartment with a newborn. If police raided my neighbors living room or bedroom with return fire, our lives would have been in danger. I would have returned fire.

0
QSWO1 0 points ago +1 / -1

Your kid needs to move away from criminals then. Random gunshots are normal in cities unfortunately. Hold the criminals to the same bar as the cops.

0
DNC_Ballot_QATeam 0 points ago +1 / -1

Haha I didn't live next to a criminal. You don't always get to pick your neighbors and when you rent you get stuck with a lease. Cops are responsible for protecting the public. I support Law Enforcement but a raid on an apartment should consider neighbors if they expect an armed suspect. Clear shots necessary.

Yeah that's an important point. With a good lawyer, he will get off though. Can't help that he had to return fire.

6
VanStiggles 6 points ago +6 / -0

If that's true, and it's the only charge they could muster, then I'm fairly sure he will be found not guilty when his case goes to trial. This whole thing reeks of they had to find a way to charge the cops with something to appease the mob.

91
tdavis25 91 points ago +91 / -0

FWIW....

If you read the charges they charged him because he fired blindly through a window. As a former cop...you CANT do that shit. Targets have to be identified before firing. This isnt the Army or Marines where you can use suppressive fire.

Ill get downvoted to hell for it but the charges seem correct to me.

21
Shroudedf8 21 points ago +21 / -0

Hopefully no downvotes. As a former cop, you should know, so I'll take your word for it as it also makes sense. Law Enforcement ≠ Military/War.

I think most of us are on the same page. We don't have all the info, but we have no reason to believe this is unreasonable. Also, the grand jury indicts, but they do not assign guilt. There is a trial to come. I am proud of the level headedness from this fine community.

Honestly, it sounds like the DA/police did a good job of presenting the evidence to the grand jury, and the jury did a great job of listening to that evidence and judging it fairly.

It's a very fair ruling.

Don't be too quick to assume that the other 2 officers are completely off the hook. There is still a lot of confusion around exactly what this ruling means.

15
Ronald_Dregan 15 points ago +15 / -0 (edited)

If anything, the other officers will face lesser charges. (I could be wrong though. I guess it remains unclear if the other officers fired the fatal shot?)

Funny...they want violent felons to never go to prison...until they think those violent felons were police. Then they want them to burn.

8
Trudict 8 points ago +8 / -0

The other weird thing about this I find, once again proving the left has absolutely no standards.

They charged that bar owner and he committed suicide, because how dare he defend his father from people attacking him.

They wanted the Mcloskeys charged because how dare they stop people from entering their private property.

But then we get to this Breonna Taylor case, and apparently a perfectly acceptable response (even if we accept their narrative to be 100% true) is to just open fire on two people entering your home.

Let's flip the roles here. Let's say it was 2 black people breaking into the front door of a police officers home, and he just started shooting them and killed them both. I can 100% guarantee you that they would be calling for that officers head. But in this situation, there is apparently nothing wrong with using lethal force to defend your home.

Now lets sprinkle in some actual reality to the situation and realize that Breonna Taylors boyfriend probably knew they were cops, because they probably announced it, and he had even less reason to shoot by their logic.

5

It was NOT a no-knock raid as many assumed (including many here). Likely many other "facts" that have been reported thus far turned out not to be true either.

SV News 🚨

@SVNewsAlerts

BREAKING: Kentucky AG says warrant served the night #BreonnaTaylor was killed was NOT served as a "no-knock warrant"—officers announced themselves but there was no answer.

3
tdavis25 3 points ago +3 / -0

The DA said in his statement there will be no charges against the other two officers and that their return fire was justified.

1
BaldyGull 1 point ago +1 / -0

I believe grand jury is for felonies only. Other charges go straight to trial. I sat on a grand jury once.

2
Ronald_Dregan 2 points ago +2 / -0

A grand jury can return charges of misdemeanor offenses though. You never go straight to trial in our court system in the US.

1
Tryhardneckbeard 1 point ago +1 / -0

Funny...they want violent felons to never go to prison...until they think those violent felons were police. Then they want them to burn.

Until you remember these people don't give a shit about anyone and they just want some good ole Communism. They are pissed that Sanders cucked out again and they think its now on them to bring about the Utopia of Marx.

3

DA just said the other two cops were justified under Kentucky law, they won't be pursuing charges.

He's technically only getting charged for his bullets going into a neighboring apartment which is still stupid... So to some extent justice was served, to a drug dealing bitch being used as a meat shield by her reetard boyfriend.

16
roscoeSteele 16 points ago +20 / -4

If he's serving a warrant, I assume recon and Intel were done.

He had to of known that no bystander was in that house - making fire superiority a valid response

21
tdavis25 21 points ago +21 / -0

In a policing context concepts like fire superiority and suppressive fire do not exist.

Simply put, you have to be accountable for every round fired. You can only fire at a valid target.

0
roscoeSteele 0 points ago +8 / -8 (edited)

In a life or death context, where your buddies are being shot at - fire superiority and suppressive fire are how you, and they, live.

these men were told to go here and put in harms way. The least we can do is understand that they fought for their lives and not charge them when no one is harmed save for the folks who put the officers in danger

if you ask me - they did everything right, and should be commended. not lambasted

Spez: he blindfired like a dipshit lol have fun in prison homie

9
tdavis25 9 points ago +9 / -0

Again, thats not how policing works.

-3
roscoeSteele -3 points ago +4 / -7

policing and it's rules goes out the window when you're in a gunfigtht

12
tdavis25 12 points ago +12 / -0

No they don't, not as a police officer. The same is true for ROE in the military. You cant just say fuck it and light up a crowd cause one asshole shot. Same concept here.

14
Irish_Wolfhound 14 points ago +14 / -0

In a military op, yes.

Police are not Marines and this was not a warzone. This charge is accurately applying the law, in my opinion.

2
roscoeSteele 2 points ago +4 / -2

you don't consider ghetto shitholes filled with gangs and criminals who want the uniformed officers dead a warzone?

5
Irish_Wolfhound 5 points ago +5 / -0

When we declare them actual insurrectionists and bring the actual military in to destroy them like we did ISIS, then go for it. Cops arent soliders. Nor should they be expected to behave as such.

3
roscoeSteele 3 points ago +4 / -1

and this is why we have dead cops - under trained and under prepared for life or death fights they get into pretty frequently

We very much should expect them to behave/have the standards of the Infantry

(pt standards, range time/training etc)

3
Irish_Wolfhound 3 points ago +3 / -0

Then you're gonna have way less fucking cops. The standards are lower because the requirements are lower. The National Guard exists for a reason.

5
Sixofdiamonds 5 points ago +5 / -0

From what I'm hearing there was three people in the neighboring apartment. A man, pregnant woman and a child.

3
zabbers 3 points ago +4 / -1

That's quite the assumption.

3
roscoeSteele 3 points ago +3 / -0

not really - if you have a long standing ongoing investigation on someone, who has been surveilled by the state it's safe to say you are going to be briefed on what you'll be encountering when executing the warrant for arrest/search

7
FireannDireach 7 points ago +7 / -0

The DA obviously intended to get ANY charges on them. I've never heard of a cop getting charged with this. They were in a fucking shootout, for fuck's sake, with one cop down with life threatening wounds.

4
Irish_Wolfhound 4 points ago +4 / -0

The other cops aren't charged because they were in the house directly under fire.

The cop charged was outside, had no clear vision of the target. This is not Afghanistan. Suppressive fire isn't a thing in police ops, nor should it be.

3
FireannDireach 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think we all understand that.

2
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 2 points ago +3 / -1

There should have been no charges at all. That charge is ridiculous and 100% political. This shit is way out of hand and it isn't going to end well.

49
maga_gal 49 points ago +53 / -4

That cop didn't need to fire inside FROM OUTSIDE the building without knowing where his bullets were going to go. I get this one. Don't downvote me into oblivion please 🙏

21
Patriot3976 21 points ago +23 / -2

IMO fuck no knock raids. If the state can't square up and do it with a normal warrant then the they aren't using our tax dollars correctly.

9
mugwump 9 points ago +9 / -0

Or if they are really worried, make a perimeter, pull up an APC and order me out. Cut the power and water and pump cs in if that doesn't work.

7
lanre 7 points ago +7 / -0

Exactly. The last thing I want to do is charge blindly into a dwelling where someone might be waiting to ambush me. If I control the time and place of the arrest, I'd prefer to do it in the safest manner possible.

No knock warrants are just police LARPing as rambo and then acting shocked when things go sideways.

1
Grunge 1 point ago +2 / -1

So you can kill some innocent bystanders, and or get rid of evidence? Yea great idea...

1
America1stAndOnly 1 point ago +1 / -0

You should not be counting on getting your evidence from a raid. If you go out and get the warrant to arrest someone, you better already have all the evidence you need to put them away.

1
mugwump 1 point ago +1 / -0

Depends on what is inside? Is it worth risking the officers for a weed raid? No. For meth, yea.

6
Irish_Wolfhound 6 points ago +6 / -0

3
unicornpoop 3 points ago +3 / -0

I'm with you (if that is indeed what happened). I know someone who got an unannounced swat raid looking for someone else that ended up in prison for a year on a gun charge. He thought it was a home invasion since he didn't have any warrants. These fucking swat teams think they can do anything and will lie their asses off in court to protect their team.

1
maga_gal 1 point ago +4 / -3

I'm cool with raids. But I'm not cool with police officers firing without knowing their targets....

lanre -3 points ago +2 / -5

Can you go back to whatever communist hole you crawled out of?

0
maga_gal 0 points ago +1 / -1

Fuck you. How about that? I'm the furthest thing from communist... But that doesn't mean I support cops firing their weapons at unknown targets. Cmon now.

2
NewUser1758 2 points ago +2 / -0

Just because they are cops doesn't mean they are in the right every single time, the justice system is working because the cops that got a clean kill on the drug dealer firing back at them were exonerated.

If a cop opens fire into a wall and blatantly violates the rules of gun safety, he should have to justify his actions in court.

We do have a major problem with no-knock warrants and occasionally police royally fucking up with wrong addresses. Also, fuck Red Flag laws.

I think the report said they did knock and battering ram?, albeit in plainclothes, and they came to learn that the house wasn't the stash spot but more of an in-between node.

And I agree, there's no reason you can't have both opinions: stop dealing drugs and you won't have to deal with the police. But don't let the police infringe our rights.

Not mutually exclusive ideas.

6
123breadman 6 points ago +7 / -1

PER charge and he has 3 charges.

Thanks for the clarification wasn't entirely sure.

Yeah, it could be 3 back to back 5 years (15 years) at worse. 2nd degree murder would have been 5-10. But I don't think any of his rounds hit target.

1
zigZag590 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah, he hit nothing and I honestly don't think he'll get anywhere close to 15 years for what he did. I think he might get fired or suspended and get a slap on the wrist criminally speaking. But I don't think anything else will happen.

So...the family got $47 million for the police doing their jobs? That’s a shake down.

Add "wantonly" to the list of words that no longer have any meaning. If an officer of the law returning fire at a suspect is considered "wanton" then there is no justifiable use of firearm in any circumstance. Ridiculous.

6
magamagashii 6 points ago +6 / -0

Prosecuter is explaining the charges are ONLY for shooting into the neighboring apartment. The officer who killed Taylor was JUSTIFIED to use force and it's tragic she was placed in that situation, but not the officers fault she was used as a human shield.
