And unless you're already on deaths door chances are you'll be fine.

This hysteria is beyond bizzare. First it was 14 days to flatten the curve now it's however long it takes to solve the problem of mortality.

TrumpTrain [S] 221 points ago +221 / -0 (edited)

The WHO reached out to the CDC to find out what the hell was up with this new information that no one else knew about and that they just randomly posted.

Then the CDC said it's just a draft and we took it down, it was published by mistake.

Why the hell would they have a draft stating this just standing by in a way that's ready to be published? Something isn't adding up here.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually a genuine update that was scheduled for today. With RBG passing, mail-in-voting is no longer going to work for them; The accident is not stopping the update in time. (Hillary and AOC also seem to be pushing voting in person all of a sudden)

The ‘6-foot’ estimate is just repeating 1918 guesstimates for Spanish flu mitigation (which, just like public masking at the time, proved largely ineffective). Actual aerosolized droplets spread is HIGHLY variable on airflow patterns, ranging from 3 to 25 ft. (the constant is gravity).

Scroon 54 points ago +54 / -0

Thanks for saying that. It amazes me that people have been propping up 1918 measures as state of the art medical science.

What's alarming is that the mentality is even similar to avoiding plague "vapors" during the Middle Ages. As if not being able to directly smell something means you won't catch the disease.

Here’s all the links & sources on mask science you need

  • why wearing masks hurts health about as much as people think it helps
  • simplified explanations
  • links to original studies
  • quotes from flip-flopping policymakers
  • a debunk of the oft-cited ‘masks save lives’ meta-analysis
  • arguments about why masks are a civil rights issue

ignorant_slob 27 points ago +28 / -1

If you could smell their farts or cigarette smoke, a virus smaller than both could travel the same distance. Government bureaucrats say whatever helps them today.

Whimpy13 4 points ago +4 / -0

Butt does farts contain the virus? Do we need butt masks? Science, work your magic!

Long_time_lurker 18 points ago +19 / -1

These probably follow an inverse-square law where the further away you are, the fewer droplets there are. I don't think we have good data for how many viral droplets it takes to infect someone, nor how that helps prevent exposure.

We might have been better off to just use masks and not shut down anything at all, if the results from Japan are to be believed. There's some indication that masks will let you get exposed to small amounts of the virus that are enough to train the immune system to fight off the damn thing.

MakeAmericaLegendary 27 points ago +27 / -0

The masks weren't a problem until they went from a respectful, preventative suggestion to a draconian order that's more about virtue signaling than it is health.

OneManBanned 14 points ago +15 / -1

It's not the masks, it's the hygienic culture. Also, their curve isn't much different than Sweden's anyway.

Chopblock 13 points ago +15 / -2 (edited)

Exactly — a guesstimate to use as a general guideline for someone asking (for spacing out infirmary beds, for instance.). Like masking, there’s a kind of ‘common-sense’ assumption underlying it — except the biological sciences have a pervasive habit of turning these kind of assumptions on their head as more nuanced and subtle interplaying processes and systems are discovered to be causally involved.

‘Results from Japan’ did not use any scientific process to identify masking as a variable to test — they simply cast about looking for potential reasons to explain low amounts of new cases in Japan and credited it to masks (ignoring many other confounding factors and potentially better explanations). That’s fine for identifying a hypothesis to test, but the next step is looking to falsify the hypothesis— and negligible effects on Coronavirus spread after mask mandates/widespread use among every other country in the world goes a long way towards accomplishing that. The Japanese might be doing something that protects them, but it’s unlikely to masking, because if it was, it would have worked for other nations when they started doing it.

quodvox 6 points ago +6 / -0

So, basically aerial vaccination

MedPede 7 points ago +7 / -0

It's almost like science matters - but the Democrats seem to be denying all the applicable fields of science and demanding that their "settled" science (which changes frequently) be followed.

_Sully_ 17 points ago +17 / -0

Because they don’t understand science. They only know dogma. People say believe science unironically when science is about understanding and not believing. You can have faith in those that understand it but you aren’t believing science, you are believing experts. Dems want high priest to make decrees that benefit them. They don’t want pesky things like facts and actual science to dilute their power. When they say “believe the science” they mean “Stop thinking and obey” with a dose of spite towards the unwashed.

Chopblock 3 points ago +5 / -2

PremiumPatriotPepe 18 points ago +18 / -0

I wonder how many days until they're supposed to publish it for real.

MedPede 11 points ago +11 / -0

It was supposed to hit last Monday. Judging by the lack of internal emails on it, they still haven't committed to it yet. Unless they have some miraculous stash of n95s for all the hospitals, the insurance and hospitals will be telling the CDC this ain't going to happen without a lot more proof.

Chopblock 6 points ago +7 / -1

N95 masks are designed to expel infected particles out into the air— the opposite of what would be needed for the current widespread masking mandates strategy to work, even if it had any validity.

That’s why military and most hospital woorkers aren’t allowed to wear N95-type masks. They are masking primarily to protect vulnerable patients from droplets that might be expelled by the staff (and in certain situations medical masks provide some small amount of added protection for trained staff who properly follow strict sterile masking protocols).

zabbers 34 points ago +34 / -0

Look at other recent statements from insiders that there are concerted efforts in various agencies to defeat Trump (validated by the more public news about people trying to reject Trump's EO on critical race theory) and it makes perfect sense.

When we win there needs to be a reckoning. A whole house cleaning in the executive branch, top to bottom, removing anyone who thinks there's meant to be a shred of "independence" from the chief executive in any bureau or agency. That is a myth the media has pushed for several years.

PatrickSebast 9 points ago +10 / -1

How would anyone decide that this guidance could hurt or help Trump??

Mrsattorney 43 points ago +43 / -0

It is designed to hurt Trump by creating more chaos surrounding his handling of Covid. The Director of the CDC, Robert Redfield, continues to put out misleading statements himself, such as he did last week when he gave people the impression that masks were more important than vaccines. Trump then had to answer a barrage of questions about Redfield's comments. Trump said Redfield was "mistaken." Redfield needs to be fired.

ColoRobo 23 points ago +23 / -0

Seems apparent to me this is meant to keep people away from in person voting. The cheat is in for this election and it is mail in voting. That's the only way they can win and the whole world knows it.

MedPede 14 points ago +14 / -0

If they stick with it, it means they have to admit the masks most people are forced to wear don't work like they said they would. Trump will be vindicated. If they try to force everyone back into end of the world lockdowns, they will generate even more support for Trump. That is especially true with the vaccine launch imminent. Whether the vaccine works or not, the public is done with this charade.

NetherPede 6 points ago +6 / -0

It would further mail-in-voting. It just so happens that mail-in-voting is no longer viable now RBG is gone (Hillary and AOC already pushing vote in person). They just forgot about a scheduled update/release, that's all.

MehNahMehNah 2 points ago +2 / -0

It shows the internal struggle within the CDC between bureaucrats and objective researchers.

unspecified_user 34 points ago +34 / -0 (edited)

"Our polling showed that a critical percentage of people were no longer panicking. We could not allow that to stand. Normal releases subject to scrutiny no longer sufficiently raise panic levels, so the next step was to amplify the supposed danger by releasing false information, but in a way where people think it is a cover-up and that we don't want them to know the information. Of course, there is a cover-up, but it is not related to the new false information. The cover-up is regarding the truth of the general innocuousness of the virus for 98% of the population."

Why the hell would they have a draft stating this just standing by in a way that's ready to be published?

Or, it was the winner of the Center-wide creative writing contest "Write a detailed press release giving the virus scary but plausible new attributes. Top three entries $200/$100/$50 prepaid debit cards and desk plaques."

They are trying to do it with medicine as well - spending 7 million on "Health Equity".

They talk about "social determinants" like education, discrimination, gender norms, incarceration - yet they don't talk about work conditions (chemical/dust exposure), eating or exercise habits, drug and alcohol use (they do talk about smoking), nor do they talk about a lot of self induced health issues. People that choose to stop taking their blood pressure medication because its bothersome (not the ones because of cost), for instance.

COVID is a relatively mundane coronavirus, like the one that cause some common colds. Virtually all those deaths that are being chalked up to COVID are being falsely attributed, even the CDC admits that only 6% of the deaths are FROM the virus, which considering the source probably means it's even less than that. How many very old and infirm people die after catching the cold? More than you think.

But packing people with cold and flu symptoms into nursing homes drove a very obvious death toll spike and can only be attributed to malicious intent.

9 out of 10 "positive" results are now known to be not even actual infections, but the result of labs "amplifying" the test results over and over and over and over until they get the result they are looking for. The presence of traces of the virus which are so low in an individual that they never got sick, nor were they ever contagious, yet they are counted in the "case counts", accounts for the fact that almost everyone who tests positive for it never had a symptom, or had symptoms from a common cold or seasonal influenza or even allergies.

HughGRection 25 points ago +25 / -0

What I hate are the articles talking about the "ground glass dark spots" on people's lungs what are asymptomatic. You expect me to believe that a viral infection is so weak you get not even a fever from it and never notice any pain in your chest or other abnormality, but yet it can cause damage to your lungs that could be significant and chronic. It doesn't make sense.

mrspaulrevere 9 points ago +9 / -0 (edited)

JS_Mill 15 points ago +16 / -1

A few people have asked why don't I wear a mask. Because I'm not concerned about it because it's not dangerous to me. They then ask what about spreading it to others who are at risk. I ask back, shouldn't those people be staying away anyway? Does wearing a mask change how we should be isolating at risk people?

hungryfreaksdaddy 19 points ago +19 / -0

You may have already had immunity from being exposed to other coronaviruses. There's a lot of cross-immunity from other coronavirus species. Coronaviruses cause roughly 1/4 of common colds.

Freetrial 11 points ago +12 / -1

That literally could be the case. I was reading an article about that. I don't know why that's not bigger news TBH, because that could mean that for the majority of Americans.... Covid is LITERALLY A COLD WITH FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS.

But we all know the Coronatarians don't want to give an inch of power away. So Covid to them is basically the Spanish flu.

mrspaulrevere 3 points ago +3 / -0

In Nov. 2018 a year before this all hit, I had an awful cold/cough for about 2 1/2 weeks. Normally I don't go to the doctor for a cold but this would not go away and seemed to be getting worse. I stumbled into an urgent care around the 2-week mark and said to the desk person "I'm so sick!" The physician's assistant changed my meds which did the trick. She told me "You definitely have a very nasty upper respiratory virus." Now I'm wondering if that was a coronavirus and I may have some immunity.

The CDC doesn't have a clue. https://archive.is/Gxaek
Early on during the virus spread, they would sometimes change their guidance multiple times on the same day. They somehow conveniently forgot about everything medicine has learned about respiratory diseases. It was as if they were using Google to learn about it.

PatrickSebast 13 points ago +13 / -0

More accurately their social media team and the people holding the line on what can be posted don't have a clue. The CDC is a money funneling scheme for their pet projects and such. They never expected to need to be responsible for this type of thing and are probably being pulled and pushed in a million directions when all they wanted was for no one to ask where the billions of dollars they get a year are actually going.

Fauci has a multi billion dollar budget for instance - now what clinical trials on make effectiveness or contagion methods has the central office for infectious disease control even started 9 months into the pandemic with this funds?

MedPede 5 points ago +5 / -0

More accurately their social media team and the people holding the line on what can be posted don't have a clue.

Internally - the stuff they talk about with state health departments - they don't have a clue either. The lack of controlled studies done at this point in the outbreak is appalling. America has spent trillions mitigating this. There are no excuses - the people at the top of the CDC should be fired, investigated and prosecuted if there's enough evidence.

The failing of govt agencies is actually the real world, we are just seeing it now for the first time because they're being cavalier with so much at stake politically. Science theoretically is objective but in practice falls prey to the same weaknesses of humanity that corrupt every other realm of civilization. Imagine being the expert on an aspect of physics for 30 years with global esteem then a 20-something savant upends the entire theory. You and all of your colleagues and scientific organizations and societies will balk and defy what is new, until eventually momentum overwhelms bc the new theory is indeed sound. This is found every time a paradigm shift has taken place in the scientific community.

A lot of people don't know where the bizarrely specific 6 feet thing comes from. It's from people with cystic fibrosis. They have incredibly compromised immune systems, so when you have a group of them at clinics or homes, you need to keep them far enough apart so that they don't infect each other. The 6 feet measurement comes from measuring how far those individuals with incredibly compromised lung functioning can spread mucus droplets when they cough. A person without that compromised functioning can obviously spray much farther. That didn't stop the CDC from using that bogus number.

SwanS0ng 38 points ago +38 / -0

Must be different in the Netherlands as they're only worried about 5 feet - https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2020/04/what-will-a-1-5-metre-society-look-like-what-the-papers-say/

covfefeforever 3 points ago +3 / -0

chinesevirus 3 points ago +3 / -0

To be fair, 6' is approximately 180 cm. 2m is probably easier to gauge, remember, and communicate.

lollergagger 1 point ago +2 / -1

To be fair, it's 1,5m in the Netherlands and 0m in Sweden.

Grunge 2 points ago +2 / -0

That is because 1 meter sounds stupid, and anything above 2 meters is unfeasible.

lollergagger 0 points ago +1 / -1

In the Netherlands it's 1,5m. Maybe because it's colder up there. Maybe it's because at that latitude, the virus-infected droplets experiences a larger coriolis force and end up curving away from people before reaching them. Maybe because all of this is completely arbitrary, made up, unproven and unnecessary.

I just figured they said 6 feet because that’s the deep states favorite number

deleted 2 points ago +4 / -2
MedPede 7 points ago +7 / -0

A lot of people don't know where the bizarrely specific 6 feet thing comes from.

Initially (Late January/early February) when the first case hit our hospitals, the number from the CDC was three feet and if the patient was coughing and neither the health care worker or patient was wearing a mask. I remember that distinctly as our hospital administrators, the state department of health and the CDC were on several conference calls to figure it out. The details meant whether a hundred or several hundred staff had to be sent home and quarantined.

Their guidance quickly changed to six feet. Then it changed to no specific distance, but either the patient or the health care worker (HCW) had to have a mask. Then it became the HCW had to wear an n95. Then it became both patient and HCW had to be masked. Then both had to be masked and the HCW didn't have to have an n95 for asymptomatic patients.

These changes were all in a matter of a few weeks. We knew the CDC was going to push the airborne version again, and administrators have been emailing us for the past 2 weeks on mandatory n95s at all times. The disease can be serious, but the CDC's response is a complete joke. There's no evidence based practice in what they issue. On the practical side (what we've learned as a hospital system from all the exposures) - if a patient has Covid and significant symptoms, an n95 will protect you for short periods. If you are going to be exposed for 20-30 minutes, then the n95 has a slight chance of failure, and you should be using a powered system (PAPR or CAPR)

What the CDC and democrats do NOT realize is that under established airborne precautions, a surgical (or cloth) mask is completely unacceptable. They will have to either get and force people to wear n95s (which will certainly cause shortness of breath for some people) or give up on mandating masks.

Airborne Precautions - archived - just in case the CDC tries to change it:

What? Our government should just do nothing? But think of all the children that will die. Do you hate your grandmother! Obviously if you love your grandmother you will wear this magical necklace that wards off the bad juujuus

PremiumPatriotPepe 4 points ago +4 / -0

LOL. Of course they use an irrelevant number. Or it is their excuse to claim this more than 6 feet bullshit.

iminurbas3 2 points ago +2 / -0

If I walk into a space where someone was just having a heated conversation, singing, coughing, sneezing, etc three seconds ago even though I was 10 feet away from them at that time, I don't see how I'm any safer than if I was right beside them the whole time. All this however many feet away from people nonsense makes no sense in a grocery store setting because we don't shop in a stationary way.

KekistanPM 59 points ago +60 / -1

Still doesn't change the fact that less than 10,000 people with no pre-conditions in a country with 330,000,000 died from it.

All the scaremongers have to offer now are embellished tales of suffering among those 10,000, and mental gymnastics about masks working unless people more than six feet away aren't wearing them, in which case the masks just stop working.

MaxineWaters4Prez 10 points ago +12 / -2

That's a one in 10,000,000 chance of dying each day. I'm pretty sure you've got better odds of dying to a shark attack in Kansas, or hitting the power ball.

kag-2020- 7 points ago +7 / -0

That's why they had to murder people in senior homes to drum up the fear mongering.

nickybops 31 points ago +31 / -0

They are trying to tank the economy again.

JuicyfearsMAGA 30 points ago +31 / -1

10,000 have died from this, much less deadly than any seasonal flu.

The issue is..name on thing that's been said by a government agency, or doctor, or scientist about this disease, and that thing will have been contradicted by that same organization or person a very short time later.

That incompetency and that dishonesty is criminal.

jslenterprises 7 points ago +7 / -0

jackdaniels 3 points ago +3 / -0

that was so last year, the science is settled. Its also been resetttled, but its settled.

Staatssicherheit 21 points ago +22 / -1

There is nothing magical about 6 feet. Viruses don't think, "hey it's 6 feet, I better stop now." It's just a matter of risk and probability. Hell, I bet some sneezes can travel 100 feet.

JuicyfearsMAGA 14 points ago +14 / -0

But the news said Trump said to drink bleach!!

And the news said the virus KNOWS a BLM protest and won't infect anyone. It knows a racist Trump rally and those caused 250,000 CASES! It knows that if I have a mask on entering a restaurant, then take it off to eat and drink, it won't bother me, it'll look for someone else.

This is a really smart virus, capable of more thought than the average liberal.

6 feet is also something a lot of people can estimate with a decent amount of accuracy. And also having people stay double that far apart, for instance, makes things much more difficult.

MaxineWaters4Prez 18 points ago +18 / -0

What if I told you...

That 6ft is an arbitrary number that was made up without any scientific or clinical significance.

TrumpTrain [S] 8 points ago +8 / -0

I'd believe you

RiverFenix 5 points ago +5 / -0

It's not suspicious at ALL that the virus can jump 5ft 11 inches to infect you, but not 6 foot 1 inch.

PotentialWizard 13 points ago +13 / -0

I've always assumed that if someone has something like the coronavirus and they sneeze, it's going to travel through the air more than 6 feet.

TrumpTrain [S] 6 points ago +6 / -0

Me too. It really just blasts out in the air whichever way they are pointed and makes a big droplet cloud. It's why you sneeze into your elbow.

SkeletorsTeeth 13 points ago +13 / -0

TrumpTrain [S] 9 points ago +9 / -0

Well, communists have been plotting to take over the world for a while now, USSR, China being the major culprits. America is too powerful for them and they have not succeeded to this point, but we are in a different world now, so new strategies like this have great potential for these scum.

"Airborne" generally means there's enough virus floating around in the air to infect people.

SARS-CoV2 is not airborne.

Sure, small amounts of the virus can become airborne briefly but actual COVID-19 infection from airborne virus is not a concern.

Just like tiny amounts of virus on your groceries or library books is not a concern. It's simply not enough to get anyone sick.

righttowolfarms 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, I've been hearing this.

They assume that a virus is "airborne" because people talk and sneeze. Airborne literally means that the virus survives in the air long enough to infect people long after it's been injected into the air.

People use all sorts of "science-y" language to try to get people to submit to their will.

Block_Helen 1 point ago +1 / -0

People use all sorts of "science-y" language to try to get people to submit to their will.

Exactly right.

MAGA_Fuckhead 9 points ago +9 / -0

This 6 feet shit is beyond fucking stupid. HOW STUPID DO THEY THINK WE ARE? If a fucking gust of wind blows the virus, it's dead after 6 feet of travel? What if the air is totally stagnant? It lingers in clouds waiting to infect the next person who randomly walks by? I cant take the fact that NO ONE CHALLENGES THE STUPIDITY OF THIS PROPAGANDA!!!

I still say all the covid over reaction bullshit was designed to direct our attention away from something non political. Something big. Like, everybody here, myself included, can go on and on citing any number of chinavirus talkingpoints now. The otherside can, too.

If it's not that, it's blm riots, voting, civil war or communism and on and on. It's one gigantic bullshit thing after another, in my mind, to keep us busy amongst ourselves...maybe even safe. Who knows?

Do you guys remember back in april when we had that story about all our warships heading out to sea? And as that was becoming a story, that psycho in california drove a train into the ocean, 'trying to sink the hospital ship?'

You dont hear anything else about china being thrown out of their embassy, either. Look at all the crazy shit thats happened.

What the fuck could be going on that both sides would prefer everybody not notice?

kag-2020- 4 points ago +4 / -0

The media/left keeps saying Trump mishandled this whole Chinese Virus Pandemic. The WHO has supposedly been monitoring this situation (China hasn’t reported it still) for close to a year. They can’t tell us shit about the virus without contradicting themselves. We are supposedly looking to the WHO for guidance they cannot provide due to corruption issues. It makes perfect sense right??

BrewSwillis 5 points ago +5 / -0

The Deep State/globalists/Dems needs people to wear masks. Since the Chinese Virus isn't really killing any more, they need to have a symbol to represent it. That symbol is the useless, and most likely harmful, mask.

GAGASays 5 points ago +5 / -0

I never liked people standing close to me in line... but the 6 feet thing is just magical thinking.

Ivanruskov 5 points ago +5 / -0

Why would they do this? I’m so tired of the CDC flip flopping about this damn virus!

MadRussian 5 points ago +5 / -0

Those who said that the entire Kung Flu Panic was a large-scale experiment in determining how compliant the general populace is were right all along.

Asymptomatic carriers are everywhere, and they infect everyone, but maybe not.

The virus was airborne, now it's not airborne.

The virus survives on surfaces for weeks, or maybe not.

HCQ doesn't work, oh wait it does.

Vitamin D doesn't work, oh wait it does.

UV light doesn't work, oh wait it does.

Cloth masks will keep you all safe, except when they don't, the neck gaiters will make things WORSE, OMG, don't you dare wear something that lets you retain a modicum of dignity, put on a muzzle goddamnit.

For even more better, wear a face shield, except maybe they don't do anything.

Coming soon: to best protect against Kung Flu, you are now instructed to walk on your head.

BREAKING NEWS: Reports show that nobody (almost) had a fucking clue what they were talking about during the early stages of COVID. Then, moron so-called experts, who probably took orders from leftist politicians to fearmonger and hurt Trumps re-election, took random protocols acquired from their assholes, and then states made it mandatory orders with zero data to warrant shutdowns, then doubled down on it even after shown to be a nothingburger. Shockingly, all to hurt the economy and Trump and not reveal how fucking ridiculous their fake models and fear was.

More at 7.

TrumpTrain [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

If you believe this, then you must believe Trump is partially responsible. He started off the "30 days to slow the spread" thing, which government took to the extreme (no surprise there). At first, no one really knew much about the Wuhan Virus, except for these deathly videos being leaked out of China.

Midnight_Pede 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes, Trump shares the blame in this mess. By allowing these morons who completely contradicted 40 years of their own experience in viruses, diseases and masks, to set guideline's and protocols, put Trump in an extremely precarious situation in regards to countering the narrative. When the CDC, Fauci and other officials completely went against the norm, countered their own previous comments with no new data to suggest doing so, it put Trump in a bad spot. Bad enough that by the time he probably figured this shit out, it would likely be political suicide to go against it.

We did know much about it, because it's not NEW. COVID already exists. Even in March there was nothing showing that millions were going to die, or that symptoms were extreme for all ages and groups. We had data early on, from Chinese medical colleagues contacting with the U.S and even from Italy, that ventilators were the wrong choice. People were dying with tubes in their throats, because it wasn't what was needed. Ignored, and the left and medical terrorists allowed the NOT ENOUGH VENTILAOR scam to be propagated.

8+ months we've had to hear the same contrived, non-science shit studies. Talking spreads it, asymptomatic spreads it, shitty cloth masks that we've known for decades don't stop viruses, 6ft and more. Lies, non-science, idiocy.

I am partly angry at Trump, because his leadership and the right people in the job would of stopped this entirely fucked up, economy ruining ordeal. Instead we got loser holdovers in positions making things political, pulling out models and random data out of their ass, then states following those general guidelines and going even further in a lot of cases.

Trump can't be everywhere, at all times. Know everything, on all issues. It's just not possible. But it gets tiring seeing these absolute clowns in powerful positions who can make sweeping decisions over a virus, who are generally anti-trump and/or holdovers. Trump should of at some point, got the plethora of medical professionals out there begging him to take a stand to this, and bring them in. Protect the elderly, those who pre-existing conditions. Make reasonable changes and accommodations to keep people safe, but do not close down.

YankeeHutt 5 points ago +5 / -0
