Not a fan of this. They are forcing them (and apparently anyone that wants to hold a public demonstration) to pay for the police presence. That will necessarily stifle speech as only those who can afford it will be allowed to do it.

Yeah.. This is objectively bad even if we don't like the person it's happening to.

Yet another person that doesn't understand the cost a city incurs during organized libtard "mostly peaceful but maybe a little fiery" events.

Where do you think the fucking money comes from? Should cops work for free at the random schedules of entitled twats that refuse to work with the city for demonstrations?

Milo got charged 50,000 after libtards tried to wreck the city to prevent him speaking.

Really, where the fuck do you think the town gets the money to afford security? Every dollar of a town's budget is already in use and tax revenues are down because of the shutdown.

You want to have a protest an hour away from town? perfectly fucking free. Don't be a god damn commie apologist.

Life costs money. Nothing is free. You want a parade for YOUR cause then pay up. If not you can tweet at home for free.

You don’t know what the word “objectively” means

Tellguy 13 points ago +16 / -3

100%.

Would anyone like it if a pro life march or a 2A rally got billed whatever the government says was needed for security?

6
PeytonManThing 6 points ago +6 / -0

Only if they didn’t get the permits for it, which do cost money

-1
refresco -1 points ago +2 / -3

Shall not comply. This is no different than 2A. If you want to PEACEFULLY assemble as written in the 1st Amendment, no one should be able to charge you a damn thing or stop you from doing so.

4
PeytonManThing 4 points ago +4 / -0

Peacefully assemble where? In the middle of a road?

4
Wallypip3 4 points ago +5 / -1

Your logic is that BLM is peaceful. They are not. Fuck you and your position. It's shitty and you should feel bad.

3
UpTrump 3 points ago +3 / -0

Isn't the idea that you need a permit to protest in the streets but not anywhere else?

1
PeytonManThing 1 point ago +1 / -0

So, because I have a right to bear arms, I don’t have to pay for a gun if I wish to exercise it? The government will give one to me? And I won’t be subject to any taxes, or have to submit to a background check, and I’m sure that complying with regulations costs gun store nothing, and that cost wouldn’t be passed onto the consumer anyway, right? Because when you see “free” or “freedom” in the constitution, it means that the government will provide it for you. Jesus Christ.

The problem in your logic is that they do not peacefully protest. I'm not even talking about the rioting. Even just standing in the street or blocking stores makes you an unlawful gathering and not a protest. And unlawful gatherings have no legal protections. If you want to protest, you need to stay out of the street, cannot block pedestrians on the sidewalk from walking by or entering their homes or stores, you can't be violent. There has not been a single BLM march yet that actually meets the legal requirements for a legal protest. So yes, they absolutely deserve to get hammered financially for their illegal actions that cost the city (and therefore you the taxpayer) money.

Just turn down the security and provide your own security. Nothings free in this world, somebody is paying for that police presence

2
Global_Tornado 2 points ago +2 / -0

They do get billed when necessary.

When was the last time conservatives burned down a church or robbed a store?

1
Tellguy 1 point ago +1 / -0

Do you think it will matter to pedes in Dem areas? Imagine Major Ted Wheeler billing Proud Boys for whatever he wants.

1
PeoplePerson 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes if you want to have a parade then YOU should pay for it. Life isnt free if you want to voice your opinion for free stay home and tweet about it or post on Facebook. I dont know why MY tax dollars need to support ANY parade.

6
Unhappymeal 6 points ago +8 / -2

Flip side. Why should my tax dollars be going to a protest/riot they are organizing. This seems very fair to hit her with this bill.

-1
refresco -1 points ago +2 / -3

Because the constitution says it's a right.

3
Global_Tornado 3 points ago +3 / -0

Where does it say the taxpayers incur the cost of riots?

What amendment is the right to free security provided by taxpayer dollars?

refresco 0 points ago +3 / -3

Rioting is illegal. Arrest and fine the criminals. Dont punish the law abiding citizens. We shouldnt have to pay a fee to march for pro-life legislation or better gun laws.

If they are doing something that requires more than just the area beat cop keeping an eye on them, someone should be arrested, fined and jailed. Recoup the money from the ones commiting the crime through fines and labor. All I'm saying is if I get 500 completely peaceful, law abiding citizens together to peacefully protest for the recalling of the governor, it shouldnt cost me or any other law abiding citizen a dime. The problem is with lawlessness. Enforce the damn laws we already have on the books. There are only so many troublemakers.

1
refresco 1 point ago +2 / -1

Anyway, agree to disagree. Im never going to be for charging for any constitutional right.

1
ColbyP 1 point ago +1 / -0

No, the ability protest peacefully is a right. There's a legal definition of peaceful protest that these morons don't meet, and therefore they do not get those legal protections. Try again.

4
PeytonManThing 4 points ago +5 / -1

Fuck their “speech.” Their “speech” is blocking streets without a permit, and covering for/organizing riots. This isn’t free speech

4
refresco 4 points ago +4 / -0

Then arrest and fine them for the laws they are breaking that are already on the books. The concern is with this being used against good, law abiding people on our side in the future. We arent burning, looting and rioting for prolife causes, why should we pay a dime?

2
PeytonManThing 2 points ago +3 / -1

If your event requires police to keep the peace why shouldn’t you pay for it? Why should the government subsidize anyone for whatever the fuck they want to say?

2
PeytonManThing 2 points ago +3 / -1

We don’t need police protection, and we aren’t causing riots. Why WOULD we have to pay for it just because Burn Loot Murder does? Conservatives don’t demonstrate much anyway and $2500 isn’t that much money for a big event. I don’t think requiring organizers to pay for permitless demonstrations that inevitably lead to riots is a bad thing

refresco 0 points ago +2 / -2

Would you be for a gun tax on all gun owners to remove the burden of gun crime costs from non gun owning citizens?

Because that's kind of how I see this.

4
Bloombergs_fly 4 points ago +4 / -0

At least that will weed out people just doing it for social media.
