Chick-fill-eh 39 points ago +40 / -1

$2,500? What's that, like 12 man-hours?

HighEmergy 37 points ago +37 / -0

bouki 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yes clearly in woman hours it would be 16 hours. Duh!

goingbigly 27 points ago +27 / -0

It’s a town in New Jersey, that’s about 8 minutes of overtime.

PeytonManThing 4 points ago +4 / -0

Cops make $200/hr?

Chick-fill-eh 1 point ago +3 / -2

Wages are just a portion of the hourly cost of an employee.

PeytonManThing 2 points ago +2 / -0

That’s an awful defense when this guy is obviously off by so much. There’s 800,000 police officers in the United States. If it cost $200/hr to employ them and they worked 40 hrs a week 52 weeks a year, it’d cost america about 332 billion dollars a year for policing. But it only costs 100 billion.

Chick-fill-eh 2 points ago +2 / -0

OK, sooooo.... 40 man hours?

PeytonManThing 0 points ago +1 / -1

Yes, but only if you’re pro rating the cost of the police vehicles and all associated costs, pensions, medical, guns, uniforms and other gear, office space, etc. If they’re just compensating for time and a half pay on an hourly rate, it’d be more like 60 man hours. Still too little. It is too small of a bill.

CovefefeREEEE 34 points ago +34 / -0

She has to have plenty of cash on hand from the stolen Louis Vuitton purses she and her BLM peeps just fenced.

Ex-libtard 24 points ago +24 / -0

TearofLys 23 points ago +34 / -11

Not a fan of this. They are forcing them (and apparently anyone that wants to hold a public demonstration) to pay for the police presence. That will necessarily stifle speech as only those who can afford it will be allowed to do it.

DemRefugee007 21 points ago +28 / -7

Yeah.. This is objectively bad even if we don't like the person it's happening to.

Global_Tornado 7 points ago +9 / -2

Yet another person that doesn't understand the cost a city incurs during organized libtard "mostly peaceful but maybe a little fiery" events.

Where do you think the fucking money comes from? Should cops work for free at the random schedules of entitled twats that refuse to work with the city for demonstrations?

Milo got charged 50,000 after libtards tried to wreck the city to prevent him speaking.

Really, where the fuck do you think the town gets the money to afford security? Every dollar of a town's budget is already in use and tax revenues are down because of the shutdown.

You want to have a protest an hour away from town? perfectly fucking free. Don't be a god damn commie apologist.

PeoplePerson -1 points ago +1 / -2

Life costs money. Nothing is free. You want a parade for YOUR cause then pay up. If not you can tweet at home for free.

PeytonManThing -2 points ago +5 / -7

You don’t know what the word “objectively” means

Tellguy 13 points ago +16 / -3

Would anyone like it if a pro life march or a 2A rally got billed whatever the government says was needed for security?

PeytonManThing 6 points ago +6 / -0

Only if they didn’t get the permits for it, which do cost money

refresco -1 points ago +2 / -3

Shall not comply. This is no different than 2A. If you want to PEACEFULLY assemble as written in the 1st Amendment, no one should be able to charge you a damn thing or stop you from doing so.

PeytonManThing 4 points ago +4 / -0

Peacefully assemble where? In the middle of a road?

Wallypip3 4 points ago +5 / -1

Your logic is that BLM is peaceful. They are not. Fuck you and your position. It's shitty and you should feel bad.

UpTrump 3 points ago +3 / -0

Isn't the idea that you need a permit to protest in the streets but not anywhere else?

PeytonManThing 1 point ago +1 / -0

So, because I have a right to bear arms, I don’t have to pay for a gun if I wish to exercise it? The government will give one to me? And I won’t be subject to any taxes, or have to submit to a background check, and I’m sure that complying with regulations costs gun store nothing, and that cost wouldn’t be passed onto the consumer anyway, right? Because when you see “free” or “freedom” in the constitution, it means that the government will provide it for you. Jesus Christ.

ColbyP 1 point ago +1 / -0

The problem in your logic is that they do not peacefully protest. I'm not even talking about the rioting. Even just standing in the street or blocking stores makes you an unlawful gathering and not a protest. And unlawful gatherings have no legal protections. If you want to protest, you need to stay out of the street, cannot block pedestrians on the sidewalk from walking by or entering their homes or stores, you can't be violent. There has not been a single BLM march yet that actually meets the legal requirements for a legal protest. So yes, they absolutely deserve to get hammered financially for their illegal actions that cost the city (and therefore you the taxpayer) money.

Specter 2 points ago +2 / -0

Just turn down the security and provide your own security. Nothings free in this world, somebody is paying for that police presence

Global_Tornado 2 points ago +2 / -0

They do get billed when necessary.

When was the last time conservatives burned down a church or robbed a store?

Tellguy 1 point ago +1 / -0

Do you think it will matter to pedes in Dem areas? Imagine Major Ted Wheeler billing Proud Boys for whatever he wants.

PeoplePerson 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes if you want to have a parade then YOU should pay for it. Life isnt free if you want to voice your opinion for free stay home and tweet about it or post on Facebook. I dont know why MY tax dollars need to support ANY parade.

Unhappymeal 6 points ago +8 / -2

Flip side. Why should my tax dollars be going to a protest/riot they are organizing. This seems very fair to hit her with this bill.

refresco -1 points ago +2 / -3

Because the constitution says it's a right.

Global_Tornado 3 points ago +3 / -0

Where does it say the taxpayers incur the cost of riots?

What amendment is the right to free security provided by taxpayer dollars?

refresco 0 points ago +3 / -3

Rioting is illegal. Arrest and fine the criminals. Dont punish the law abiding citizens. We shouldnt have to pay a fee to march for pro-life legislation or better gun laws.

Global_Tornado 1 point ago +2 / -1 (edited)

Why do you believe that? Where does the money come from?

Are you in favor of a universal Free Speech tax to pay for riot security?

" Dont punish the law abiding citizens. We shouldnt have to pay a fee to march"

Law abiding citizens have to pay to rebuild their businesses because there were no cops policing the riots you numb fuck.

When you organize a demonstration, law-abiding citizens that live in the area are forced to pay for it. The police are paid for by their taxes, their businesses take a hit, road crews have to clean the mess that gets left behind. Toilets have to be set up and cleaned.

And taxes are already accounted for, that means because of unplanned protests, some part of the budget has to be cut. Community outreach, a women's shelter, repairing a bridge. The city takes a fucking hit because muh right to riot should be free!

What do you not fucking understand? Law abiding citizens are being forced to pay for your fucking marches and they get no say in the matter? Wake the fuck up libtard.

deleted 2 points ago +3 / -1
refresco 2 points ago +4 / -2

If they are doing something that requires more than just the area beat cop keeping an eye on them, someone should be arrested, fined and jailed. Recoup the money from the ones commiting the crime through fines and labor. All I'm saying is if I get 500 completely peaceful, law abiding citizens together to peacefully protest for the recalling of the governor, it shouldnt cost me or any other law abiding citizen a dime. The problem is with lawlessness. Enforce the damn laws we already have on the books. There are only so many troublemakers.

Bloombergs_fly 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yeah sounds fair. These agitators have been making any gathering dangerous for years.

refresco 3 points ago +3 / -0

We have plenty of laws on the books already and these idiots are breaking lots of them. When we can enforce all of the current laws being broken and something is still wrong, then make more laws.

Bloombergs_fly 2 points ago +2 / -0

Makes sense

refresco 1 point ago +2 / -1

Anyway, agree to disagree. Im never going to be for charging for any constitutional right.

ColbyP 1 point ago +1 / -0

No, the ability protest peacefully is a right. There's a legal definition of peaceful protest that these morons don't meet, and therefore they do not get those legal protections. Try again.

PeytonManThing 4 points ago +5 / -1

Fuck their “speech.” Their “speech” is blocking streets without a permit, and covering for/organizing riots. This isn’t free speech

refresco 4 points ago +4 / -0

Then arrest and fine them for the laws they are breaking that are already on the books. The concern is with this being used against good, law abiding people on our side in the future. We arent burning, looting and rioting for prolife causes, why should we pay a dime?

PeytonManThing 2 points ago +3 / -1

If your event requires police to keep the peace why shouldn’t you pay for it? Why should the government subsidize anyone for whatever the fuck they want to say?

PeytonManThing 2 points ago +3 / -1

We don’t need police protection, and we aren’t causing riots. Why WOULD we have to pay for it just because Burn Loot Murder does? Conservatives don’t demonstrate much anyway and $2500 isn’t that much money for a big event. I don’t think requiring organizers to pay for permitless demonstrations that inevitably lead to riots is a bad thing

refresco 0 points ago +2 / -2

Would you be for a gun tax on all gun owners to remove the burden of gun crime costs from non gun owning citizens?

Because that's kind of how I see this.

PeytonManThing 1 point ago +2 / -1

That’s a very weird nonsequitor. Those things aren’t even close to similar. The only issue with asking people who demonstrate in public to pay for the costs to do it is if the cost is a result of counter protestors/rioters. You’d have to assign the costs correctly. How can you honestly think those things are similar? Fine the people who actually use the guns to cause crime. Freedom of speech means the govt can only prohibit speech in limited ways. It doesn’t mean that any speech you want to engage in, no matter what it costs or who pays for it, will be paid for by the state. Free speech isn’t a handout.

Bloombergs_fly 4 points ago +4 / -0

At least that will weed out people just doing it for social media.

6079SmithW 16 points ago +16 / -0

They should also be charged for property damage and clean-up costs.

blurryface 8 points ago +16 / -8

Unpopular opinion but how is this effective? If she was organizing riots on day 80 in Portland sure. But this sounds like some lame RINO move to make us look bad while accomplishing NOTHING.

This girl, as dumb and misguided as she is, is NOT the target. Her protest didn't turn violent and she didn't advocate for it to.

I want people to CHANGE not just face consequences.

militarysnoopy 12 points ago +14 / -2

Someone at some point in her town felt that this should be an ordinance on the books.

Enforcing the laws we have in place doesn't make us look bad.

blurryface -5 points ago +5 / -10 (edited)

And we all know how selective enforcement works in this country. The powers that be do what they think will be effective for their new world order. You think the people in charge of this town are Trump Supporters?

Whoever decided to enforce this has interests aligned against the head of the Republican party.

A RINO if you will.

Don't you think theres a reason the President himself hasn't thrown the book at the rioters?

You think it was because he was waiting for the local governments to do it for them to take the blame?

I don't.

I think it was because he knew it wasn't a winning tactic.

Winners only care about winning.

Punishing losers isn't important. They suffer enough on their own.

bill_the_butcher 1 point ago +3 / -2

Dindu nuffins need your money

DisgustedByMisleadia 9 points ago +9 / -0

There's more to it, explained in this article:

[...]According to the mayor, the teenager had refused to meet with officials before her protest, requiring leaders to hastily come up with security plans for the event.

"As with any privately-sponsored event that takes place in the borough requiring police safety, an invoice was sent to the organizer for police overtime since it would be unfair to require our residents to financially support a private event," the mayor told NJ Advance Media.

blurryface 2 points ago +5 / -3

Why did you eliminate these paragraphs?

Gil said she didn’t meet with them in person over coronavirus concerns, but made an offer to meet via Zoom, which wasn’t accepted, and then officials stopped responding to her.

She said she had reached out to Kranjac after getting the bill, but has gotten no response.

She's a recent high school graduate. There are plenty of more important and more harmful people involved in actual riots happening.

Not sure why everyone thinks this is the most effective way to get across our message.

But I guess most people just care about being right.

doug2 5 points ago +6 / -1

Bro 2500 isnt shit. Coronavirus? Because that's fucking nonsense. You dont get to dictate terms to the city. Follow the process or foot the fucking bill. Someone has to.

Global_Tornado 3 points ago +3 / -0

" didn’t meet with them in person over coronavirus concerns"

where the concerns of the riot?

"She said she had reached out to Kranjac after getting the bill, but has gotten no response."

As if I would believe that fucking TWAT. BULLSHIT she reached out to them.

the-new-style 2 points ago +3 / -1

This one has more detail

Her mistake was pour race into her legitimate sounding objections

“Englewood Cliffs has dodged affordable housing requirements for 40-plus years,” Gil told NJ Advance Media. “I find that unacceptable.”

OK, that may well be true. Is there a legislative requirement to do that? I don't know. Maybe it is a good idea to campaign for one. Good for you. The residents will decide when you raise it.

and the fact she believes Black residents are priced out of her Bergen County hometown

Oh, white people can't be poor. Now I know who the racists are.

deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0 (edited)
DisgustedByMisleadia 1 point ago +1 / -0

I didn't include the paragraphs, because it really doesn't matter. It was her responsibility to pay for police security. Regardless of who you want to fault for not meeting beforehand, she held the protest anyway.

Even if she was the class valedictorian, she had no control over who appeared at the protest, and without police providing security, she would have been unable to stop bad people from turning it into a riot.

newaccountusername 6 points ago +8 / -2

I don't think you understand. They change only AFTER they face consequences.

Stop worrying about "making us look bad". That's the central weakness here.

blurryface -1 points ago +5 / -6

Tell me one Antifa member who changed once they went to jail.

This strong response justifies their own delusions. This is not effective.

Im not saying they don't deserve consequences, but the election is at stake and whoever looks the most appealing wins.

Don't be myopic. Consequences aren't the most important thing. The election is.

doug2 3 points ago +4 / -1

Pretty sure fighting back against this shit is winning optics.

crimsonfancy 1 point ago +1 / -0

If it deters more because future organizers may fear the creditors then I'm for it. I realize thugs don't pay bills and don't care about credit but I guarantee some of the organizers are concerned with their credit lines and maybe don't participate directly. These would be my third type (type C) of protester involved in the ANTIFA / BLM movement that includes university professors and their misguided students who are doing it for the virtue. The sames ones that will peel off when the scaredy violence cranks up.... or hopefully in the case when cost to themselves could be a concern.

blurryface -1 points ago +2 / -3

I dont disagree 100% I just think that the people who are really "in charge" are being bankrolled. This girl is a scapegoat.

I think the arrests being made on the violent rioters they have caught on camera setting fires etc etc are necessary and helpful. And those accomplish the goals you were talking about, deterring the second and third level rioters.

But arresting the organizer of an ACTUALLY nonviolent protest just plays into the other sides rhetoric and undermines our point i think.

crimsonfancy 1 point ago +2 / -1

I understand. I agree and see your point clearly. Indistinguishable at media level because they'll report half-facts and certainly motivated to set us up to have to defend it. I get it.

blurryface -1 points ago +2 / -3

Yes exactly.

In order to be persuasive you must give concessions. There's no use simply preaching to the converted

But if you do a good enough job, your opponent will be the one explaining why those concessions werent quite accurate.

The arrests on the violent instigators who attend the protests should be where the focus is. Everyone can agree with that. And the number one priority is still winning elections.

Global_Tornado 2 points ago +3 / -1

Appeasement doesn't work.

She refused to cooperate with the town, protest was not permitted so the town scrambled to put officers out and had to use Ot hours. That’s why she’s getting billed

blurryface 0 points ago +3 / -3

Why would we want to shut down the riots?

They affect our target audience and nothing is pulling people over to our side faster and with more conviction than seeing the media lie with their own eyes.

I feel for all the law abiding citizens who's business are being destroyed and livelihoods threatened. I pray they will be compensated far beyond their insurance. But fining this woman won't help them.

This might feel like justice. But this is so much bigger than our feelings.

All I care about is winning the election and converting as many of these misguided fools as possible so our country can get back to normal and eliminate foreign threats.

We need to be united as Americans again.

deleted 3 points ago +3 / -0
deleted 2 points ago +2 / -0
blurryface 2 points ago +3 / -1

I see where you're coming from and we want the same end result, believe me. I dislike the violence as well. Its hard to watch and hard to accept this is where we are as a country.

But getting a majority of Americans genuinely back on the right side, both politically and morally (cause what's the difference) is the main priority.

And getting through the brainwashing and bullshit is the only way to do that permanently.

The best way to do that is to have people stop on their own accord, because they realize they were wrong. They were BRAINWASHED. As dumb as they are, they aren't hardened. They already distrust the government. They just are too foolish to realize the media is the propaganda arm of said government. Once they see that for themselves a pandoras box opens.

These riots are a redpilll dispenser. And I have faith that this chaos right now is more effective and less violent than the civil war would be. And idk what the alternative is if they don't come to this side on their own. They're so far gone.

If we want people on our side the first step is getting them to disengage from the Media lies and propaganda. Whatever gets them there is a GOOD THING

fluffmiceter 3 points ago +3 / -0

I literally have known this person, I grew up in this very town and went to the same school as her. She was a tumbler and reddit obsessed social justice fanatic, so no surprise there. She tried to organize this protest in a quiet affluent suburb, where people don’t give a shit unless you trespass on their property, so it was a totally predictable result. Get fucked! lmao

fluffmiceter 2 points ago +2 / -0

For some context for the pedes who have concerns about this, the town has extremely low taxes and I bet the police are paid just barely enough to keep them operational. The police in this town pretty much just go around ticketing people for speeding at the most.

I think coming from a culture of trying to save taxpayer money and use that money very conservatively, fining a mere 2,500 dollars which most likely was the cost of having the police at the event, is perfectly reasonable in my eyes. People don’t like paying for commotions that others start, and the fine should teach the person in question some life lessons.

Anwedie 3 points ago +3 / -0

If citizens can hold private events requiring police presence(marches, rallies, etc..), citizens from outside a city/county could bankrupt the towns and cities of their choosing by just repeatedly having protests there and the residents wouldn't be able to afford the tax bill and would have to cut services or police. I wrote this 20 years ago in a thesis titled How the Ant Beat the Elephant on asymmetrical warfare.

militarysnoopy 2 points ago +2 / -0

Those events are held with the town / city's approval. If they think it's too expensive, they won't approve it. If you decide to do it anyway, they'll bill you for it. I don't see the problem.

OutcastSeal 3 points ago +3 / -0

MannyBozo 2 points ago +2 / -0

Dudewho 2 points ago +2 / -0

Soros will pay it. Equivalent of 1 cent.

Jcholl9 2 points ago +2 / -0

My bet she didn't see that coming... PAY UP

ChuckCollet 2 points ago +2 / -0

Seems to me the remedy here is to allow businesses to sue the organizers for damage.

If the city were allowed to recover police overtime for any protest, then they can ramp up overtime and use it to punish legit protests.

If the city can show that the protesters were from outside the city, that it's all a stunt, then that makes more sense. As far as I'm concerned, cities like these should have run their cities properly so people don't have to protest, or they can pay and pay until they go broke.

RedditCCP 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's what happens when you defund the police. They need funds to operate, so they will charge and increase the fines significantly.

Imagine the outrage when criminals see their fines after the police is defunded.

Tenspot20 2 points ago +2 / -0

So she applied for the city permit to assemble? And they have already hit her with overtime charges, which will be followed by maintenance bills and all costs accumulated for city damages caused by the event participants. Better hope that no one was injured or/and that no private property was damaged, because she is liable and responsible for these cost too, as is all outlined within the said permit document that she applied for and was approved.
