Yes it was real, and yes we got the the little poptart fired... all the blue check Amazon comments were deleted. I spent a lot of time with Amazon customer service with 100's of other pedes, getting it escalated and laying the smack down.

I'm pretty sure it's fake. Amazon Prime Video posts nothing but ads for shows and promotes them and hollywood and whatever is tending. but I can't see that they get in the middle of any discussions by people posting comments, and I read a pretty spirited thread about an "actress" (actually a man) in that show orange is the new black. APV did not comment at all. I am always suspicious when people only post screenshots and they only show brief comments and not a long thread or link to the original post.

19
BrewSwillis 19 points ago +19 / -0

Pretty sure it's real. Amazon Prime's Twitter acct also seems to be run by similar woke liberals. They are pushing Stacy Abrams, and "voter suppression" pretty hard right now.

Anti-Trust Laws were made for a reason. Break up the monopoly businesses. Amazon, Google, Facebook, Apple, Micosoft.

14
trauncher 14 points ago +14 / -0

Twitter, Instagram, etc etc.

4
GG_Escalator 4 points ago +4 / -0 (edited)

I support the hard-line free market point of view but I'm also not opposed to the idea of breaking them up via Anti-Trust Laws but I'm curious what happens after that in terms of their business model and assets?

I don't see their assets being sold to the highest bidder or anything so what steps could be taken for a successful transition if an Anti Trust case were to succeed?

I think we should salvage as much of the assets as possible, but how? I'm not very familiar with the process or Anti Trust procedures so that's why I ask.

8
SteelDriver 8 points ago +8 / -0

Indeed. Silicon Valley giants are the modern day robber barons. Anti-trust actions should have been taken long ago.

5
day221 5 points ago +5 / -0

Plus their retail business barely makes any money if they aren't in the red still. They lost massive amounts of money forever on retail, to the point where I think if you had invested in retail specifically you would never make your money back on those investments. The problem is they are allowed to subsidize these failing business models which ensures they never face any competition (and that no actual profitable models can be created). It's the same with Google and Youtube.

These companies should have been broken up long ago, and some of their acquisitions never should have been approved. Normally I'm a very free market person but just like open borders don't work with a welfare state, laissez-faire economics doesn't work when government and special interest groups already have their finger in the pie (including the education system).

11
forgotallapolis 11 points ago +11 / -0

Absolutely, I primarily search on Amazon and then order directly from the mfg. Also helps me avoid shit Chinese stuff for some things.

8
HolocoughSurvivor 8 points ago +8 / -0

In all fairness I got a sweet handcrafted rice patty hat from China off Amazon a couple months ago. Don't feel bad about supporting a small Chinese operations but yeah.. we should all be trying to stop supporting all of these mega corps who all offshore to China and others... starting with the biggest Amazon

4
AmericanPatriot6f0 4 points ago +4 / -0

2
Cyer6 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is what I do. I was looking for a smoker and found an American made one called Old Smokey on Amazon and ordered it directly from them and even saved money. They also shipped it faster than Amazon has been lately. I've done this with a lot of products. Did it with my Roku. Purchased it directly from them and got it at a better price with quick shipping.

Small startup building alternative internet and has a marketplace solution that will replace Amazon minus the 2 day shipping.

If you think there are based big tech companies that can easily fill in the technology and features of the top of the food chain... You're gonna look a long time.

You need to find alternative companies and get people to convert and help grow their ecosystems.

You can not expect smaller or new companies to be able to compete with companies that have had two decades of market dominance overnight.

I cancelled mine when they put up BLM banner. I was a heavy user, ordering things left and right. Thought I wouldn't be able to manage for long without it, but I'm surprised how little I've thought about it. Got my workout supplements on free delivery subscription with Vitamin Shoppe. What I've noticed is I'm buying a lot less of crap I didn't need, most of which probably came from China.

6
lanre 6 points ago +7 / -1

I noticed the exact same thing. I have more money in the bank and less useless shit arriving that I thought I needed.

Also, when I do have to search around for an alternative, usually I can find it from an American business or at worst, manufactured in a non-Communist country like Taiwan, Japan, or Korea.

43
Itateeverybody 43 points ago +43 / -0

Most of the things for sale on Amazon are also sold on Ebay. The sellers generally have stores on both.

6
RamboXLV 6 points ago +6 / -0

eBay is solid. I usually can get most things in three days. The only downside is the return process. Prime was good in that department.

28
alfredbester 28 points ago +28 / -0

Yeah. Same here. I can't teach my son to be a good man and still support something like this with my money. I'm cancelling my account. The largest portion of my buying has been on Amazon.

So, I've thought about this since i started typing it and something occurred to me. This is going to be fun. Sure, Amazon Prime is convenient and cheap, but at what price? They are actively undermining my country. Cities are burning. I can't go buy a beer without a mask. It's insane. Fuck them.

20

40
Kinkinnatus 40 points ago +43 / -3

Over one thousand years ago, Anglo Saxon culture put aside tribalism to become one nation under a common law. We bequeath this enduring legacy to the children of our country to this day. Far be it from any good American to end this legacy, especially in order to sink to the enemy's level and fight them at a crawl in lieu of trampling them underfoot.

25
Itateeverybody 25 points ago +25 / -0

Do you have any idea what my ancestors (German Teutons and Norsemen) would have done if black lives matter showed up and demanded they hand over their homes? Heads and pikes...

-1
Kinkinnatus -1 points ago +7 / -8

Black Lives Matter is designed to stoke the ancient flames of tribalism. Don't give in to it. Also, blm is about as black as the democratic vp nominee, so it's kinda like when the traitorous vassals of Otto invited the Magyars to raid and pillage to pad the odds on their rebellion.

32
Itateeverybody 32 points ago +32 / -0

Tribalism was abandoned by whites decades ago. And now here we are, where our children are executed on their bikes, thrown over the railing at the Mall of America, and smothered to death at daycares.

Don't you dare fucking tell me not to do the one thing that would ensure I don't have to bury my sons the way Cannon Hinnant was buried. My people matter just as much as anyone else's...and it's time we reminded the world of that.

15
SadPangolin 15 points ago +15 / -0

Tribalism was abandoned by whites decades ago.

But it's about to be all the rage again.

3
stoic_troll 3 points ago +4 / -1

The world is not going to return to tribes unless shit really hits the fan and society completely collapses. America was built on values and these values defined who was part of the tribe. If someone or some entity is truly for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness then that's good enough for me.

1
Kinkinnatus 1 point ago +5 / -4

I'd just say the stilted media reaction to that nightmare is designed precisely to shift the mind's eye towards emotionally-appealing yet self-destructive reactions like summoning the tribe. And in fact, history is littered with the bones of tribes fallen to nations. America is the greatest nation because we choose to unite around a common law and a common destiny, and the MAGA tent is far bigger than skin color.

9
675-EVIL 9 points ago +10 / -1

Don't give in? So you just want to hand it over because 'we are better than them'? Wow.

0
Kinkinnatus 0 points ago +1 / -1

Hey, me and mine are just peaches. My fucking community actually works, and nobody kills each other around here. I have nothing in common with that white guy getting ripped out of his car except skin color. He's not my tribe. So do you really want to play this tribal game? Because most people on here are late to this fucking party and have only been waking up to their slow boil instead of smelling the steam like we are in the functioning parts of America. So by all means be that American Faggotry X nerd who joins the white gang. Congrats. Now you're just as pathetic as everyone else who can be hoorawed by the media.

England used to be divided between competing tribes. As a clutch of tribes, they saw so shortage of foreign incursion and depredation. Only after throwing aside tribalism and uniting as a nation did they put an end to the Norse invasions that regularly destabilized the country.

2
EpicPede 2 points ago +4 / -2

ok fair. in a modern context anglo Saxons working together would be tribalism. Back then it surely was as you described.

4
_Sully_ 4 points ago +5 / -1

Come on, pedes. England was stealing Irish men, women, and children simply because they were Catholic and sending them into slavery. There were so many taken from the island that the population markedly shrank. They hated Catholics so much they thought they were lesser than godless heathens from Africa.

Fair enough, I agree racism isn't a problem in America its all bullshit.

I'm not sticking up for Creepy Jeff Bezos hes definitely a steaming pile of human shit, especially since he owns WaPo and they are clearly biased as fuck.

But if a CEO is asked about racism or something they could dodge the question but they'd catch heat, if they said they support racism they'd catch heat.

So its easiest to just say that they don't support it, its good optics.

You'll have more luck finding alien life.

9
CelesteD 9 points ago +14 / -5 (edited)

Already been found. Microbes from both the moon and mars come in on meteors.

It counts as alien life.

Edit: I'm willing to admit I could be wrong here and that contamination could be the cause. Please don't hate me :p

10
MakeAmericaLegendary 10 points ago +10 / -0

That's inaccurate. All life we've found has either been Earth contamination or not legitimate evidence of microbes. Plus, it doesn't make sense to find microbial life on random space debris.

6
CelesteD 6 points ago +8 / -2

It's not inaccurate, its just controversial. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_on_Mars#Viking_lander_biological_experiments

You have to read that whole thing and understand whats going on. Please dont just cherry pick the first thing you see either, because it goes back and forth several times and no one can agree on anything.

It makes perfect sense if you believe panspermia, which is the idea that microbial life hitches rides on asteroids and meteors and smashes into planets, surviving, and evolving over time into more complex life.

5

I love how two people are arguing about science and citing wikipedia articles as sources.

2
brother_red 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah. I remember when they announced it, and ol' Rapin' Bill had a big presser.

Sounded like bullshit to me then - and the scientific community concurred.

It's cool that we have Mars rocks though!

2
Based_Trumpster 2 points ago +2 / -0

There's never been a microbe found in a meteor from Mars (or anywhere else). NASA just launched a new rover specifically designed to look for microbes on Mars.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/nasa-perseverance-mars-2020-rover-launch-watch-live-2020-07-30/

2
CelesteD 2 points ago +3 / -1

I'm seeing at least three different wikis about scientists saying mars once had water, even salty oceans. also in every study/article about no microbial life found, the deepest they have looked is 30 cm below the surface.

Maybe I'm just wishful thinking here, but there were also extremophiles taken from earth that could survive on mars, so the possibility at least exists.

3
Based_Trumpster 3 points ago +3 / -0

That's why they sent the new rover, to dig deeper in areas where there's evidence of water. Who knows what will be found, but so far every scientific datum says we're unique in the universe.

What's the competition? Jet?

Unless you're talking about Prime Video specifically. But then I don't think they care. Amazon is that profitable.

82
Work2gethrBiglyOrDie 82 points ago +82 / -0

Is it true that Amazon is getting richer partly by using taxpayer money to unfairly lower shipping costs and destroy competitors?

79
TickleMissle 79 points ago +79 / -0

Yes. It's impossible to compete with them online because they're able to sell at a lower margin than the competition due to their lower shipping cost. They claim since they do so much volume with the post office, they should get a lower rate than businesses who don't. However, since the post office loses billions of $ a year, Amazon is basically being directly subsidized by the tax payer and the amount of volume doesn't matter.

30
Myzlplix 30 points ago +31 / -1

Not really, their biggest draw is shipping. they still charge tax. most of their shit is from china. I shop around and almost always find a better deal. Especially if I can find a company that doesn't charge tax. Just got a streamlight tlr-7a for $110 shipped from gundealzone. site looked sketchy but it was legit. Amazons price with shipping- $168.00 Also you can find better deals on ebay most of the time.

6
TDWIN2020 6 points ago +6 / -0

There are sites that don’t charge sales tax?! Is that legal? And how did I not know this?

3
MakeAmericaLegendary 3 points ago +3 / -0

In some states, sites are not responsible for charging tax on cross-state purchases. You're supposed to report it though.

4
TickleMissle 4 points ago +5 / -1

Amazon doesn't always create the customer price since it's a "marketplace" in which people can sell through without utilizing Amazon's warehouses. Regardless, a retailers goal is not to be the cheapest on everything...that's a losing strategy. The goal is to be the cheapest on the things a majority of people already buy often (ie cheapest gallon of milk in town). They're called loss leaders because they're not afraid to sell it for less than they paid if it means they can profit off the rest of your order.

6
Myzlplix 6 points ago +6 / -0

I'm just pointing out that amazon isn't the be all end all for low price like everyone thinks it is. again, their main draw is shipping.

4
Jack_Burton 4 points ago +4 / -0

We need an app or website that will bring you the lowest prices on products, and allows you to filter by country of origin.

2
MapleBaconWaffles 2 points ago +2 / -0

The challenge is getting the info from the sites. It would be really difficult if you had to try and pull prices, much less country of origin, from a regular webpage.

If we could get buy in from online retailers to make their catalogues available some standard metadata format that could open up a lot of possibilities. The challenge is probably less technical than it is convincing stores that the effort is worth their time.

2
TrumpyMadeYouGrumpy 2 points ago +2 / -0

But who knows, cause I heard it from the MSM.

3
spezLicksCatTurds 3 points ago +3 / -0

1
TrumpyMadeYouGrumpy 1 point ago +1 / -0

It is absolutely a federal crime, even if you're not uploading.

By the way, you are uploading in the swarm even if your download's not complete yet.

And some small amount is required to be uploaded just to download content, so you can't set upload speed to 0.

And on any decent tracker, you need to get ratio anyways.

Don’t use TPB, unless you want a virus. Look up how to set up a plex server (your own personal netflix basically). Buy a VPN $40 or so per year. Then on duckduckgo search rarbg and 1337x and you can get any movie or tv show you want. There’s plenty of other sites too. Paid streaming services are shit anyways, even without the propaganda.

1
krzyzowiec 1 point ago +1 / -0

You need to use an ad/script blocker to make TPB tolerable, and it’s not as good as it used to be. I like btdb.eu as well as your suggestions, but it needs a blocker too.

Usenet>torrents if you automate it

11
techied 11 points ago +11 / -0

Torrents can easily be automated too, the benefits of Usenet are mainly

  • Don't need to worry as much about copyright trolls
  • Fast download speeds
  • No worries about maintaining ratio
  • No worries about torrent being lost to 0 seeds

However

  • You have to pay for good Newzgroups
7
Untenablemorass 7 points ago +7 / -0

I went from using torrents, switched over to strictly usenet for a few years, and am now switched back and almost entirely invested into torrents again.

Usenet is amazing but it does have it's drawbacks. It was a lot more fun 5-10 years ago and just turned into a pain in the ass for me. But it definitely has it's place for a lot of people though that just want to download their things and be done with it and not have to fuck around with uploading etc.

At least with torrents, Its a good feeling when I have a ton of torrents seeding that I'm a thorn in the side of people/companies like the OP that hate us

2

Meh, just turn them all off. It was a bit of a tough transition for me, but I don't really miss them. Just watch some older stuff online for free or something. It's not like they really make anything good anymore anyway. Can't remember the last time I watched something I thought was really good. I just rewatch older shit, or find some older shit that I haven't watched before.

7
TheThreeSeashells 7 points ago +7 / -0

It's not like they really make anything good anymore anyway.

It's amazing how many times I've decided to watch some new show, only to have something pop up within the first five minutes that tell me it's crap. I was watching some fairly new cop show and in the first minute they showed some black lesbian cop.storyline and that was it for me. It's amazing how many shows pull crap like this. On the plus side, it stops me from wasting time on some show I'll end up turning off after the fifth episode.

5
VoteCyborgTrump2040 5 points ago +5 / -0

I wholeheartedly agree. Once you're redpilled, you see this shit everywhere. I have no idea how people can watch stuff like this, with such overt ideological programming. Even if you were one of the wackos that believed in it, I still don't see how you could stomach it.

I own a ton of movies and shows on DVD too, but I even stream the shows I own, just because it's easier to type something in and click, rather than hook up a dvd player, change disks, navigate the menus, etc.

But to go back to what I was saying. A lot of older content has none of the woke nonsense of today. I know as a younger person, I wouldn't really have expected to like John Wayne films, but they're actually pretty damn good. There's a lot of old stuff that is overlooked, but totally worth watching.

4
TheThreeSeashells 4 points ago +4 / -0

The good thing about having about 100 years of film and TV under our belt is that there's PLENTY of stuff we haven't seen yet. A lot of which would be banned in a second nowadays. Makes you wonder what a goldmine Golan-Globus would make nowadays with their high-action, often Pro-America, non-PC films.

2
illiteregetimate 2 points ago +2 / -0

True, AWS is their bread and butter for now, enabling them to operate their retail side on margins ranging from slim to outright loss. All they gotta do is capture enough sellers on their platform to begin beating them at market with data or restricting them. Those who don’t join the platform will be squeezed out in time.

5
DaesDaemar 5 points ago +6 / -1

Yep, have been a big Amazon fan, despite their dominance, because of customer service and easy shipping.. but they have been going downhill for a while now, and now this... it's time to pull out the hammer and bust the company up. I won't forget this.

I was just discussing these supposed voter suppression issues with my coworkers, who are Hispanic second-gen immigrants who are Trump voters. They live in pretty rough towns in east NJ, very urban and immigrant heavy. I mentioned all the talking points the left uses: poor people can't take time off work, immigrants can't speak English to register to vote properly, it's too expensive to get an ID, they don't have internet to register, etc.

They've literally never of anyone having those problems, and were quite frankly a bit insulted that "white folk" think so little of them.

Oh, they also said that the USPS moving and transporting mailboxes happens regularly every month, but this vote by mail thing is the first time people actually notice. I explained to them that suburban Karens don't use post boxes and they laughed

Just cancelled my Prime subscription. Unfortunately, the fuckers charge in 3 month intervals, so it won't effectively end until December.

18
muslimporn 18 points ago +18 / -0

Amazon has been an ass-hole company for a while now. If you look at how they try to trick users into subscribing for Prime their sales department has some serious problems.

I remember trying Prime and instead of getting next day deliveries things kept getting stolen every time and it ended up taking weeks or months. The only good thing about Amazon is that in these cases they've been at least quick to acknowledge the thefts.

Amazon is so big with something of a monopoly they can get away with all kinds of things. In various areas they are very good and in others they are awful.

Anyone confronted with Prime should be immediately aware that Amazon is unethical.

For once, I actually think they might face consequences. Companies might be aligned with a particular agenda, but unprofessional behavior, esp. in a company that prides itself on professional service, will get you fired no matter where you are. I used to work at Target (which also sort of supports BLM), and hurting the brand by being blatantly rude and telling people to leave over something like this will get you booted.

2
nobletanker81 2 points ago +2 / -0

leftists always double down. when you are this in trouble with the 'law' you have to recreate the law to bend it around your sense of power and 'role' in this upside down reality we're presently in.

They won't give up, they won't surrender, and they are 'here' til ever last person is dead... they'll fire them, and re-hire them as sub-contractors and promote them for the fact they were lambasted in public. That's it. That's all folks.

Ed-Zachary disease ... their head look edzachary like their ass.

They will publicly fire her, dissolve the company, then move their assets to their sister, cousin, brother, uncle, aunt company... and then later re-hire her under a different contract as a sub-contractor with limitations (with proper paperwork already included), change her name to some degree, and then she'll run for Congress in 12 years and WIN (if their projections via agenda ring true) - based upon the corporations "equally" contracted out to the 'Deep State' trough which is directly funded by both GOP operatives working with DNC operatives who are equally 'sidelined' by fake front corporations who have access to every single bit of compromising information as the next person in Brennan's CIA.

Blackmail, government-debt 'Federal Reserve' driven corporate espionage, and out-right public pride in their power to subvert the 'American Way' which requires no definition... we know what is good when we see it - this is evil. #ShadowGate

In the video Tore said that Brennan told Seth Rich to image the DNC server. This is part of Brennan’s MO as he will then claim ‘imaging’ was a ‘hack’ and acquire data he couldn’t get normally and cover up dirty work. This was the “Are we the baddies?” moment for Seth Rich and that’s when he shared the real data image with wikileaks. EVERYONE KNEW WHO HAD IMAGED THE DNC SERVER. There never was a hack.

4

I'm not disagreeing here but the memes are easy and quick and get the job done as we saw in 2016. Many normies won't read articles when they think the writer / paper is biased. The memes can't be passed up without reading because they're quick, to the point and often nobody knows who they side with until it's been ingested.

7
DeltaTango 7 points ago +7 / -0

Yeah. The last season of The Expanse had some SJWy undertones. Really fucking liked the previous season too.

Spoiler alert.

When new habitable planets are discovered, the government organizes colony trips to safely explore them. But some poor brown Belters ignore the law and jump in front of the line and settle one of the planets.

Then when the official colonists arrive, the Belters attack and murder most of them. The survivors, who are now portrayed as evil and ruthless revenge seekers, have to be stopped by our brave antagonist, who also has to help the illegal settlers survive on the planet full of alien tech that's killing them.

1
John_McFly 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's exactly how the book went too, it's all setting up for the next book/season which will be really, really worth it.

The thing to keep in mind: There are zero good guys. You cannot survive in the unforgiving void of space without choosing to leave others to die, or making an overt action that will result in their deaths. You're working on a finite number of hours of oxygen and a limited amount of delta-V. The math is clear in many situations that if you try to save someone, you will not reach the person in time and will likely not survive.

Holden is trying very hard to be the one good guy, but even he has done things that he can't reconcile and he regrets. Amos is the opposite, he has zero regrets. When it's time to murder someone, he pulls the trigger, and he doesn't consider the consequences beyond where the bullet will go once it exits the corpse.

***** Big time spoilers on the latest season*****

The belters were completely f'ed by the company before they arrived on the world, but I'd have to pull up the e-book and dive into it to find the terms of what happened to them. I think it was they were required to pay for all of their supplies at usury rates on their previous station and were thus indentured servants to the company? They also didn't intend to kill the company men, the colonists intended to destroy the landing pad before the ship was committed to landing so the company ship could abort back to orbit and go home, but the ship arrived early and set off the explosives.

12
lifeisahologram 12 points ago +12 / -0

The communists are too smart to have it as "official policy". But the thing is it is always "unwritten policy". Hell it is most of the time simply "unsaid policy". It's just this innate understanding between communists, knowing how to act, how to be perceived, in their quest for what they really want but don't outright say.

But their end game is to eventually move their true intentions out in the open, but they know its a long game to get them there. So its little by little, drip by drip.

They wouldn't say what they say today so openly in the 1960s. And what they say now is going to look precious next to future iterations of their public profil/policy.

They are becoming a tech company to compete with Amazon. They could actually beat them considering how they already have distribution and physical stores sorted.

LarryLambskin 9 points ago +10 / -1

Amazon is just as bad if not worse with Chinese products

3
dGPOFniqsrZF 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's amazing how many counterfeit products are on amazon. You have to be really careful with certain things.

TrumpyMadeYouGrumpy 16 points ago +16 / -0

Walmart is just as bad. They had a stickied message at the top of their site for weeks directly after the riots supporting BLM and shilling for "racial equity". They are handing $100 MILLION to advance the left's anti-white racist movement. Notice how it doesn't say "equality", it says "equity". Part of that plan is to buy MORE from "minority-owned" companies and specifically discriminate against white-owned companies simply because they have white skin. It's wealth redistribution, courtesy of radical left Walmart.

I lied and said my business partner is 16% black... going to start applying for all sorts of random shit as a minority owned business.

Edit... he’s Italian lol

I'm not sure if the people behind that account wants to help Trump or they're really dumb at making business and marketing god.

When I was 5 years old I would occasionally act like this and my mum would say, "You better quit pushing your luck" and I'd keep it up until she popped me in the face and busted my lip open.

11
VoidWanderer 11 points ago +12 / -1

I usually just got a wooden spoon to the ass, not a fist to the face.

5
Mitschu 5 points ago +5 / -0

You guys had nice mamas.

Mine would just go get dad.

It's frankly a miracle I survived to turn six.

doug2 -15 points ago +2 / -17

Wooden spoon in the ass? Kinky childhood you had damn

7
VoidWanderer 7 points ago +8 / -1

The fact that you got "in" out of "to" says quite a bit about you.

Check again, pedo. I didn't edit anything.

I'm the pedo lol. Dude who took spoons up the ass is gonna call me a pedo.

6
VoidWanderer 6 points ago +7 / -1

You're the one that can't read and thinks about a kid getting a spoon up the ass when it was never mentioned before you said something. Fuck off pedo.

What kind of pathetic degenerate hits a five year old in the face so hard it makes their lip bleed?

2
TheStoneOfSisyphus 2 points ago +3 / -1

The same "mother" that I haven't seen in 25 years. Big time leftist, too. Hated Reagan. Didn't like me, either.

2
dGPOFniqsrZF 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm sorry Pede. I too had a terrible mom. Mine voted for Reagan but hates Trump with a passion.

20
MindsetRoulette 20 points ago +20 / -0

I'm only in my 30s and I remember when it was taboo to use authority/fame to push political views. Granted it's never been so easy to know where someone stands politically.

2
CasualJogger 2 points ago +4 / -2

Nah man, think Reagan. Used his fame to redpill his political message, same with Trump, Trump was VERY famous and really got the ball rolling on Obama's birth certificate ect...

AsaNisiMAGA 20 points ago +20 / -0

It's so insidious too. Recently watched the Korean film "Parasite," the one that won all the awards. Didn't really look at the Amazon description until after I watched it because I knew what it was. And WOW. The description was some woke SJW nonsense which did not describe the film at all. It was bizarre. And angry making.

7
lifeisahologram 7 points ago +7 / -0

I haven't watched the film because of all the descriptions of the film describe it as some Communist Manifesto that "brilliantly showcases how evil capitalism is" and how we should all be communists and stop wanting to live independent lives, yada yada yada.

Without spoiling it, could you describe the film for me? If the SJW descriptions are non-sense I might be interested in watching it.

A poor family with no scruples uses subterfuge and lies to obtain jobs in the home of a naive wealthy family. Hilarity ensues and many lives are destroyed. Warning for graphic, intense violence.

Edited for better wording

4
lifeisahologram 4 points ago +4 / -0

That doesn't sound like an argument against capitalism at all lol wtf Just sounds like shady ass people.

4
AsaNisiMAGA 4 points ago +5 / -1

Exactly. It's a human comedy/tragedy, a sort of moral fairy tale about weakness and desire. It's like a very dark and violent take on old Hollywood crazy family screwball comedy. Or those post WWII Italian neo-realist films, like "The Bicycle Thief" where no one is perfect and everyone's faults rub up against each other. Or maybe a combination of both of those. One would need to be very indoctrinated and without even one shred of empathy to see it as a Marxist critique of capitalism.

keep-america-free 1 point ago +1 / -0 (edited)

Spoiler ahead!!

I disagree. The movie may not be marxist but is certainly egalitarian in the sense where that it depicts the rich people as aloof Marie Antoinette types. There is a scene where the rich man smells the poor man and poor man notices that rich man is disgusted by his smell.

This all culminates with the poor family massacring the rich. A sort of revolution.

So while its not a critique of capitalism per se. Its a critique of hierarchy and depicts the rich people in worst possible to justify their murder. The tenor of the movie made it seem like the rich people had it coming merely by being rich. Not taking into account how they earned their wealth, were they creating jobs, charity etc? Who cares, they are aloof rich types and that's evil enough.

So while its not Marxist it certainly shares the same philosophical underpinnings.

SPOILERS

Stories about peasants and royalty, or one could say aristocrats, have a long history before Marxism or modernity including modern economics. Wealth and class are definitely part of this story as they are in many old fairytales. Fairytales are political but not in a modern woke sense.

I saw the wealthy family less as Marie Antoinette types or even Daisy Buchanan careless types and more like the clueless rich families in films like "My Man Godfrey" or "Bringing Up Baby." They aren't malevolent or nasty or destructive. They're insulated and naive.

And the poor family aren't noble or moral. They're lazy and dishonest and greedy in all their relationships. They can't even be bothered to fold boxes correctly and don't have any concern for the people whose jobs they've stolen. These sorts of characters also have a long history. The best known examples in Western literature being the bawdy scoundrels in works like "The Canterbury Tales" or "The Decameron." The odor issue is a running gag (pun) from the first time the little boy notices it early on.

I definitely found the wealthy family more sympathetic than you did. Never felt like they had it coming for their status. Maybe for their individual failings. And the architect of the real star of the film, that house, is treated with a certain reverence and remembered fondly despite his great wealth.

Anyway, interesting film. And to get back to my original point, not the film Amazon advertises in their blurb which says, paraphrasing, capitalism ruins what could be a great friendship between families.

3
karmalizing 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yeah I actually think it’s making fun of the left and they are too stupid to realize it.

The name of the movie is calling the lower class people parasites ffs

2
keep-america-free 2 points ago +2 / -0

its not against capitalism per se..but certainly an egalitarian movie that marxist types would enjoy.

6
DeltaTango 6 points ago +6 / -0

The Sub Beacon podcast reviewed it, and they liked it.

I haven't seen it, but the basic premise is a rich family hires a poor family for some reason, and class conflicts cause it to devolve into a horror movie. They said it's not clear who the "good guy" is, and you could interpret the "parasite" as either the rich family, the poor family, or both.

1
karmalizing 1 point ago +2 / -1

The poor family was very obviously parasites and terrible people... and the rich family only made the mistake of being generally nice..

I watched a few Korean highly rated films [there's not that many]. I'm not blown away by them the same way Reddit is but they're interesting and shot well. The only thing that is off putting is Korean culture is a little too strange for me; it's conveyed through the behavior of the characters.

So you're generally good on the SJW front. I cancelled netflix when Dear white people came out so I'm very sensitive to the sickeness.

Amazon owns WaPo.

That's all you need to know about their goals.

Oh no. If that happens, they might post partisan articles about obscure ex-Trump admin officials who say they're voting for Biden...

20
Techsan 20 points ago +20 / -0

That is actually kind of funny. Amazon is going to get rekt by the far left anyways in democratic states. See Seattle Washington and NYC.

4
DeltaTango 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yep. The left basically torpedoed their plans to bring thousands of new jobs to New York. Better suck up to the people literally trying to destroy your company... Good business plan, Amazon.

Not really proof, that link is provided by a third party service that lets you name it whatever. Still, fuck Amazon.

What’s with all the Stacey Abrams propaganda? Did one of her campaign staffers get a job as a social media intern with Amazon?

4

Look at every candidate the Dems have, they're the same steaming piles of shit they just keep dumping out like people don't get that they're abject failures and embarrassing losers. Abrams is just another Democratic turd

Home Depot needs to step up and invest in becoming an Amazon competitor.

4
boilingfrog 4 points ago +4 / -0

I don't know man, have you seen their fucking website or used their app?

I have to use third party authentication provided by their app to log into their app that does the authentication.

5
bangbus 5 points ago +5 / -0

Home Depot website: “we have 863 bags of Kingsford in stock at your selected store.”

You buy it online, select in store pickup. Arrive an hour later when it says order will be ready. “Sorry sir, we don’t have any in stock. It might be here next Wednesday. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.”

3
dGPOFniqsrZF 3 points ago +3 / -0

These stores are complete trash with their online order stuff. Had to order a printer from Office Depot. I arrived 45 minutes after getting a "your order is ready" message and still had to wait around while the associate got everything (one item) together.

My whole reason for ordering online hours ahead of time was because I was on a schedule. I could have just walked in, grabbed the box, and paid much much faster.

1
TheEagleSays 1 point ago +1 / -0

I haven' used the app, but the virtual checkout process is terrible. I just can't think of another semi-based corporation with the infrastructure and logistical capability to take a shot.

2
DeltaTango 2 points ago +2 / -0

I like their new self-checkout lanes. I've never used their online store.

Are they trying to be an Amazon competitor? They're not exactly in the same industry.

1
TheEagleSays 1 point ago +1 / -0

They're not trying, but I think they're the only reasonably based company that has the infrastructure and logistics operation to make a play.

2
DeltaTango 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don't know. Amazon's strength isn't it's shipping logistics, although those are good. It's its online store and tech computing infrastructure. Early on, it just relied on UPS/Fedex/USPS to handle shipping, and focused all their efforts on building out their tech platform, which they eventually spun off into its own product as AWS.

Now they're so big that they've built their own warehouses and have their own shipping trucks. Home Deport may have that, but not the tech infrastructure. Their website is even probably hosted on AWS.

2
TheEagleSays 2 points ago +2 / -0 (edited)

I don't think they could compete with AWS, but if they invested in transforming their website into more general retail, I think in time they could give Amazon a run for its money. Amazon has first-mover advantage and they definitely have the last-mile advantage, so there are challenges. If they could find leadership with the will to make it happen, though, I think it's an opportunity to use this bullshit COVID crisis to reinvent themselves

16
Jeffs42885 16 points ago +16 / -0

Dammit. Looks like I’ll have to go back to pirating movies. Looks like I’ll also have to stop renting things off amazon.

8
Mitschu 8 points ago +8 / -0

... back. Yes.

2
DeltaTango 2 points ago +2 / -0

Hey, their prices are reasonable, their selection's good, and the streaming speed is great. But I'm not going to fund my own political extermination. Eat a dick, Amazon.
