"Santa" is a lie.

St. Niklaus was remembered for making a personal sacrifice to save innocents from injustice.

Commercialized "free" consumer goods is basically the polar opposite of what he was remembered for.

Santa Claus himself is a communist invention. The beard is a direct reference to Karl Marx. The red suit is the color of communism. He knows who is naughty or nice? Yup that’s big brother for you. And don’t even get me started on his redistribution of wealth scheme.

It’s a communist agenda if ever there was one.

Just reuse old decorations. If it isn't made of foam and plastic it will last for a long time. The only real problem with christmas deco is that the christmas light strings are so cheaply made they can't last longer than 2 years without burning out. Still looking for decent lights.

4
Paul_Revere 4 points ago +4 / -0

I get that you're being ironic. But it may be of interest that for most of the prewar 20th century, the source of most glass Christmas ornaments was a small town in Eastern Germany called Lauscha.

It's not a quaint little town full of Old World craftsmen turning out ornaments in their basements any more, but Lauscha still sells Christmas decorations:

https://www.krebslauscha.de/christmas-ornaments/home

Nowadays, of course, the cheap Chinese slave-labor knockoffs dominate the market. But you can still find the old German glass ornaments at antique shops, if you know what to look for.

3

I wasn't, really. But those ornaments are neat. Thanks for the link!

Has to be adjusted for inflation. 1 trillion is a crazy amount of money a century ago.

35
Former_RM2 35 points ago +35 / -0

Interest accrued over that amount of time could account for such a high number. Of course, the CCP will claim it was borrowed by the Nationalist Government and tell us to get it form Taiwan...but then they would have to acknowledge the existence of the Nationalist government...WOW, what a predicament.

15

11
WhitePowerRanger 11 points ago +11 / -0

This is the way

0
Oldjeansandbelt 0 points ago +1 / -1

Until you think about the fact that China can use this to prove the legitimacy of their ownership of Taiwan.

What this really is is acknowledging China's legitimate claim to Taiwan in return for their re paying the debts for the Taiwanese government that they claim as theirs.

2
MapleBaconWaffles 2 points ago +2 / -0

But that begs the question, can a people get rid of their national debt simply by replacing their government?

1
Oldjeansandbelt 1 point ago +1 / -0

No, as the Senator points out, it begs the question of whether a nation assumes the debt of a country they take over.

5
Thracka951 5 points ago +5 / -0

I think the main plan is to dramatically increase the size of the economy and address unfunded liabilities. The debt-to-GDP can be attacked from other angles when you view it from different perspectives.

I expect we’re going to see the largest industrial and scientific boom in generations. I wouldn’t be surprised if pulling back from foreign labor and trade doesn’t result in a bigger boom than Post WW2 (economic, not nuclear hopefully).

12
maga4all39 12 points ago +12 / -0

Take their money, fund an infrastructure bill. Amounts are about the same from previous talks. I could dig it.

Or fix the education system. That would be good too.

5
0nDaFence 5 points ago +5 / -0

Trump could propose a bill to buy up all the privately owned debt with US Treasury Bonds. Then the administration could use it as a HUGE bargaining chip.

1.) Recognise Taiwan 2.) Forgive all our current debt with them 3.) etc...

Lots of possibilities.

4
splink 4 points ago +4 / -0

Won't really make a difference in national debt at this point. Maybe back in the 90s. Imagine a world like that. China may not be where it is today, but I'm not savvy on their economic situation back then.

Be better to invest in infrastructure or other things that will be beneficial long term. Hell, put it in the military for the lulz when China goes hot against us.

3
godaddy42 3 points ago +3 / -0

2
Au_contrarian 2 points ago +2 / -0

It is more complicated than that because China owes it to US bondholders, not the US government, so the best we could do is cancel China's debt and have the US pay these bondholders instead. Repatriating that much debt would probably destroy the dollar.

64
TheJJ 64 points ago +64 / -0

She has some RINO tendencies to be sure, but this is a really clever move to kick China in the nuts, raise her profile and get good headlines for re-election, AND sweep the leg on her lunatic China-backed opportunist gun-grabbing Dem opponent, Mark "Mr. Gabby Giffords" Kelly.

Doesn't really matter. If they have half a trillion, they would mobilize it from the entire country and buy more from others. If they manipulate currency, other countries are stuck with the bill.

It would actually be better for us if they don't have it because they would need to make deals with other countries ane lose money along the way. We can verify if the gold is not real.

We owed a debt to the Shah of Iran. Billions. We paid them in spite of the muzzies overthrowing that government.

By that same logic this senator is correct in affirming this.

11
ModernKnight 11 points ago +11 / -0

We did NOT owe billions to the Shah of Iran. We owed $400 million. And that was BEFORE any payout for the hostages Iran took (which is still in litigation because the World Court are anti-American bastards). That money was, even back with the Shah, in a non-interest bearing account. But your logic is completely sound.

18
RedactedPatriot 18 points ago +18 / -0

I have no idea exactly how this works but we have 40,000 Americans holding these bonds. If this 1.6 Trillion is divided evenly thats $40,000,000 dollars per bondholder.

Everyone call yo grandma and see if she got one of these bonds laying around from her parents!

The Chinese will likely say that they don't have to because they're not the same government that took the debt. They of course expected the UK to honour the agreement that was signed with the government before communist China.

The UK should've torn up that treaty once the communists took over, no quarter for communists.

2
wlatic 2 points ago +2 / -0

That could actually be an extremely important arguement. Im wondering if the UK had debt and trapped them into paying it at some point by honouring the agreement.

Our government should then use that money to pay off debt as we sever all market ties with China.

I believe it was very foolish for Richard Nixon to open up trade relations with a hostile power, which is the same as enriching Al Quaeda or even the Nazis during WWII.

If American corporations desire cheap labor, then they should invest in India or Mexico, IMHO.

4
Seanp12 4 points ago +5 / -1

I can see why Nixon did it, though. China was infinitely weaker compared to today, and turning them against the Soviet Union was one of the keys to breaking the Eastern Bloc. The real problem came when Bush and Clinton tried to bring them into the "global community" and the WTO. After the USSR collapsed, we should have turned the screws on China right away.

2
wanderingUlysses 2 points ago +2 / -0

I can see why Nixon did it, though. China was infinitely weaker compared to today,

China was weaker back then, but still very, very strong. And if they were infinitely weaker, then they have grown infinitely stronger, no thanks to us enriching them in trade.

turning them against the Soviet Union was one of the keys to breaking the Eastern Bloc.

We allied with China against the Soviet Union? That seems prudent and not unheard of, as we allied ourselves with the Soviets against the Nazis during WWII.

Bush and Clinton tried to bring them into the "global community" and the WTO.

Yet, the first step to make that possible appears to have been taken by Nixon.

Look, I'm not someone who hates on Nixon. In fact, this is my only grievance with him, honestly.

He is a hero to Israelies and saved that sacred and holy nation.

And as the lyrics are sung,

🎵Watergate does not bother me, does it bother you?🎵

—Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sweet Home Alabama

After the USSR collapsed, we should have turned the screws on China right away.

If you are correct in that we allied ourselves with China in order to help collapse the USSR—in the same principle as our Navy allying herself with the Italian Mafia during WWII—then

turning the screws on China right away

logically follows as the alliances purpose has been fulfilled and new principles then govern.

That is an intriguing take on history that I have not heard of before. Fascinating.

And, if you're interested, then these are sources on the alliance between our Navy and the Mafia during WWII:

Here is a good interview I just watched on this with Jonna Bianco, the Director of the United States Bondholders Foundation, interviewed by Joshua Philipp for the Epoch Times.

She talks about why this debt swap should've already occurred under US law, and if not due to influence from Wall Street and DC they'd have already pulled the trigger.

Just to get your blood boiling, the Chinese have never paid a penny to US bondholders, while simultaneously paying interest on their bonds held by other countries. We've, the US taxpayer, been paying China interest the entire time, on-time, every time.

I had no idea we held so much Chinese debt, and I consider myself pretty fiscally literate on such matters.

Goes to show how dangerous a country without a free press really is and how fast it can go sideways.
