Sleepy Joe sucks, and so does Amazon, and so do all multinational corporations.

Yes, Amazon and other big tech multinationals employ a huge number of Americans. They also employ a huge number of immigrants, and are given huge tax breaks/government subsidies, while their CEOs bash Trump, and they censor Americans and violate our First Amendment rights.

Multinationals have no loyalty to the United States, and do not care about American citizens.

Also, while Amazon pays decently for warehouse labor, they also have near-sweatshop conditions, as in no bathroom breaks. I know this first-hand. They don't owe their workers anything, but it's laughable when they virtue signal about how much they pay their employees.

Patriotic capitalism is good; multinationals are bad. The founding fathers understood this, even though modern libertarians/free market globalists have rejected it. Trump has brought back this distinction. America first, not "free trade" first.

I never understood the logic of why people complained about what he and Bezos pay people. Mostly Bezos. “He’s so rich, he could give factory workers $3 more an hour and it’d be nothing to him.” It’d be hundreds of millions to him yearly, and it’d be basically nothing to them. The base level positions are unskilled labor. $15 an hour is already a lot for that. If he tried paying everyone more on top of that, he’d lose even more. The left tries igniting class warfare even when it’s seemingly already been won.

If you want a better job, don’t be an unskilled entry level factory worker. Doesn’t sound like a bad job on top of that for what it is. They act like Amazon and Tesla are government companies. You can only vote there with your dollars. If you don’t want Bezos and Elon to be rich, stop giving them all your damn money. They won’t do that though. They’ll just pretend life’s one big PTA meeting and whine.

That’s the real reason you don’t give in. It’s the same with kids. They don’t want what they’re asking for, they just want to see if they can get you to bend the knee. If people don’t like amazon, stop giving amazon all your fucking money.

“Fuck Bezos! He’s got a bunch of houses.”

And you bought them for him.

It was more on accident. Reddit had a hard on for Tesla, the original guy, so naming a clean fancy electronic car company after Tesla sure helped. Saying he wants reusable clean rockets appeased the climate change nutjobs. Then they all found out he's a businessman who doesn't happen to be retarded

21
PepesCovfefe 21 points ago

Maybe the Old Reddit had a hard on for Nikola Tesla.

The New Reddit I’m sure has no clue who he is.

8
enoughdakka 8 points ago

Seriously overrated in any case. I prefer inventors that deliver their inventions to society, not those that allegedly did a billion things that are all just rumor and "he took the secret of how to his grave" shit.

5
HrvyWnstnDdntKllHmsf 5 points ago

Tesla did a whole lot of fundamentally important work in understanding electricity.

It’s not his fault that he later became the subject of some dumbass’s “well ackshually Edison bad and Tesla good” copypasta in the late 90s. He’s more of a casualty in some idiot’s hate boner against Edison.

History is more complicated than the dumb narratives fed to plebs at school. But it’s also more complicated than the dumb counter narratives fed to plebs on the internet. History is really fucking complicated.

4
enoughdakka 4 points ago

Tesla did a whole lot of fundamentally important work in understanding electricity.

Never said he didnt, but a lot of the idiotic post-mortem knob slobbering is done because of shit he allegedly did that nobody's ever reproduced and he couldn't be assed to make notes about.

2
buckinghampi 2 points ago

POTUS' uncle, John Trump, was actually a brilliant electrical engineer who was noted for great work. He was asked to inspect Tesla's papers after he died, apparently he didn't say anything of great importance about them but let's be realistic...would he oust brilliant, ahead-of-its-time-technology to the world? Probably not.

Businesses with the primary goal of making money must be punished. The only reasonable goals for business are to support climate activism, feminism and most importantly, trans rights.

2
Fabius 2 points ago

A company only makes money if they get someone to buy their product or service. All the transactions are voluntary. If you don't like a company, stop paying for their shit. It's really fucking simple, until government gets involved. Then all of a sudden you have to buy somebody's product. Then they start treating you like shit.

You can see this happening now with "essential" businesses. They know you have to buy from them, so they yell at you now for not wearing a mask. I bought something and literally got yelled at. I'm a god damn paying customer and they screamed at me. Fucking out of control.

They seriously don't have even a basic concept of economics.

There should be zero tax on profits spent domestically. Or in other words, we need tariffs and 0% business tax.

29
SoYuge 29 points ago

Given the stupid shit our gov't spends on we should have a max 10% tax for state AND federal on income. Capital gains shouldn't be taxed under a certain amount.

We have to cut this back it's silly. They don't even defend our borders.

29
Not_My_Real_Acct_ 29 points ago

Keep in mind, inflation is a tax.

For instance, the U.S. Treasury just borrowed three trillion dollars. That's $12,093 for every tax payer, on top of the $180K that every tax payer owed already.

The U.S. Government can't raise taxes enough to squeeze us for that $192K. So instead, they just keep borrowing more money.

This is a big part of the reason that a house in 1970 cost $15K and a house in 2020 costs $500K. The government has been unable to raise taxes enough to pay for their spending, so instead they just borrow the money. But borrowing the money makes the currency worth LESS.

TLDR: Inflation is a tax.

2
GrabLifeByThePussy 2 points ago

I think capital gains shouldn't be taxed if you hold them for a certain period of time. If someone flips a home it should be treated differently than a retiree. Same with day traders vs people doing long holds.

3
Fabius 3 points ago

Capital gains shouldn't be taxed at all. That's horseshit. There shouldn't be an income tax either.

The government is taking 50% of everyone's money right now, either when you make it or when you spend it. You don't start earning money for yourself until after lunch on Wednesday.

2
GrabLifeByThePussy 2 points ago

I think a little income tax is fine but even for the highest earners I think 5% is the most it should be. A constitutional amendment capping income tax at 5% (combined federal, state, local, etc) would be good. I also think there ought to be a minimum tax of like $100. Everyone needs to have some skin in the game.

2
namechangearoo 2 points ago

I like that analogy. I’ve used one similar. You don’t start earning money for yourself until June. Puts shit in perspective of us being slaves.

1
SadPangolin 1 point ago

Capital gains shouldn't be taxed under a certain amount.

Don't forget. A large portion of those 'capital gains' are purely due to inflation reducing the value of money. People are forced to 'invest' to counteract the declining value of the dollar, then taxed on those 'investment' gains which often do little more than maintain the value of their savings.

Government is the biggest scam in the world.

16
KishinD 16 points ago

Your profits are taxed. If you reinvest into new facilities and jobs, it's not profits.

Though it could be argued this is an unfair advantage to big business, only idiot libshits think they aren't paying what's owed.

1
Bramble 1 point ago

Except you won't take the risk to invest in those things without having sufficient profit to back it up.

100% of corporate taxes are passed off onto the consumer, except in cases of monopolistic competition. It is all a sham. Corporate taxes are are one of the worst "poor taxes". Coming in second is the poor tax of gambling.

Bingo. Nobody gets this.

The customer pays every expense of the business. Every salary. All the overhead. Every tax. It all comes back to you.

7

Sad that they feel like they have to. The "Democratic " party has been a giant pay-to-play operation for the last 100 years or so, and since they do win about half of elections across local, state, and federal positions, Amazon has to hedge its bets.

Either it will intrinsically do well in a robust Republican economy, or it will pay its way to success in a corrupt democratic control economy.

The clear answer is to wake up the normies, and reclaim our brainwashed youth. That's the only way to ensure the dems wither and die. That's why memes are effective

6
donald_zuramp 6 points ago

Regardless, this could be any major corporation.

There may be a low corporate tax rate, but think of how much money 500K employees represent in both payroll taxes from Amazon and also each individual employee. It is a fuckton of tax revenue.

Personally, I think corporations should pay even less payroll tax. Like basically none. "Employed" vs. "Self Employed" workers should pay the same tax rate in my opinion. It would definitely encourage a lot of people to work for themselves or start their own companies, and it would make it even easier for small businesses to hire new people.

Most leftists don't understand economics. Even smart ones will pretend not to understand. They act like there is a magical source of money and goods that always produces regardless of human input, and the people that are rich and successful have simply blocked the rest of us from getting our share from the magical source. Therefore, if they just eliminate the successful/rich people, then EVERYONE can be rich and successful just through mere existence.

Amazon has put in the effort, ingenuity, and capital to create a successful business. In doing so, they have employed hundreds of thousands of people, providing them with a living and creating an enormous tax base for the government. These leftists pretend we can keep those societal benefits while taxing the companies that make them possible out of existence. They have the critical thinking skills of a 3 year old.

18
fdagasfd 18 points ago

This was my thinking. Biden is advocating for nonsense that he knows doesn't work but he has to say it.

I think it's become too obvious that all these freebies have to actually come from somewhere. Like Yang's whole "get the money first, prove this money exists, that you can get it, then we can talk about what we can/can't afford" etc. There's a lot of Yang's policies I hate, but when he said that he was at least being a pragmatist.

And of course Bernie's blank stare of oblivion when pushed on where he would get ~$37 trillion.

So now Biden has to pretend Amazon is some monstrous tax-dodger that has somehow established their own tax code under the radar of the US Senate.

That's where we'll get the money! It's these huge global-conglomerates! Why did we never look at their profits/tax situation before!?!? /s

Glorious.

10
Deplorable_in_PA 10 points ago

I have never once met a leftist that understood even basic economics. They like to ignore ideas of supply and demand and laws of unintended consequences as happens with price controls.

5

1
Thingthing22 1 point ago

With Bezos' space goals, I would think he'd need to buddy with the current admin. And he left his cuck wife. I dunno. And and and, Amazon has stayed open through the plandemic.

4
Reelect45 4 points ago

I myself am an Amazon employee. And he would never buddy up to the Trump admin. Amazon stayed open as an "essential" service. Not only does Jeff Bezos own WaPo, which constantly releases fake news articles, but Amazon also has plenty of liberal based policies. First one being is that there is no expression of religion allowed at the workplace, but yet my warehouse has a prayer room for muslims. Managers also have to take classes to learn about gay people. Amazon is a long ass way from budding up the Trump. Would Jeff Bezos revel in corporate tax cuts? Hell yeah he would. Would he take those tax cuts and use the to better his employee's lives? No. Over the course of 3 years we have lost our RSUs, we lost our attendance bonus, and just recently they cut our retirement contributions from 4% to 2%. Since they raised our wages up to 15$ an hour, they took away our bi quarterly raises. Amazon used to be a good company but is getting progressively worse.

4
Frsh 4 points ago

Amazon hasn't had cheaper prices on pretty much anything for a few years now. Most "Prime" items are actually more expensive now because they started rolling up shipping costs into the retail price. Add taxes from the new laws, and their pandering leftist video service and its just not worth it anymore.

5

Lol they are evil but cannot be bested in several areas. I can't be pro capitalism then deny all the benefits I get with using Amazon

12

If Amazon really wants to show they care about America or American workers they could start by adding a field for "Country of Origin" to their products so people could easily choose to support American labor and business.

1
OhLollyLollyPop 1 point ago

That is pretty much a standard question in the area just before product reviews. Plus, every smart seller has it in their product description now.

1
fdagasfd 1 point ago

True, and I can usually find out by searching the reviews/questions, but not always.

Mainly it just stands out because you can sort Amazon products by any other feature. In my opinion it's obvious they've made an ideological/financial kickback-inspired decision not to have this field on their products.

It’s pretty simple. If a business is growing they can either take a profit, get taxes on it, give it as a dividend and have the shareholders pay tax on it too. Or they can reinvest it in capital for the company and have the company grow and pay not taxes because they didn’t make a profit. Then the value should reflect in the stock price and if you sell the stock you pay taxes in that. It gets taxed either way.

Billionaire Bloomberg bought 21 seats that he slipped up telling us about. He likely has even more. How many has Amazon bought as a company? How many has Bezos and other Amazon executives bought? And why?

TO ENSURE THEY PAY AS LITTLE TAXES AS POSSIBLE.

And, if you're a politician who doesn't want to play ball, well..

Bezos owns the Washington Post, so he can ensure that those so-called "journalists" make up any fake news he wants them to and smear any politician standing in Amazon's way. And since all those liberal fuckers follow each other's lead, he actually has far more power than just the Post.

The fact is Amazon is paying what they're supposed to be paying, but they've paid off enough members of Congress to ensure it stays that way.

When Amazon spends $0.00 dollars on lobbying, then my opinion will change.

If Joe Biden keeps this up, Washington Post is suddenly going to turn Pro-Trump LOL. WaPo become the #1 anti-Trump propaganda rag the day after Trump said he'd investigate Amazon for anti-trust fraud... it might be time they pick the lesser of 2 evils.

your complaint is w/ the tax code, not Amazon.

Meh. I'm confident that Amazon had a hand in writing that tax code, ergo I don't really see a difference.

Amazon may treat their blue collar employees like slave labor but they are far from the worst in terms of compensation

Amazon pays people for comments - Amazon Ambassadors. They swarm comments pages in coordinated PR attacks.

Does this mean WaPo is going to start to support trump now?

Corporations, by and large, play by the rules designed by governments. They hire hundreds, thousands, even hundreds of thousands of people. Provide benefits, pay commensurate with the position and ACCEPTED by the person who took the job and, generally, provide stability. Without Corporations, we are third-world shithole country. Pisses me off to no-end when politicians slam corporations for playing by the rules designed by those same politicians. And yes, I'm a Corporatist.

Companies should absolutely not be able to keep their money off shore or use tax shelters like Ireland in order to "cheat" the American tax payer. That being said, they only got away with it for this long because they knew corrupt politicians would have their hands out. It only made sense to pay a dime now to save a dollar tomorrow, but it's smart business and only possible because of rampant corruption. Re-patriate the money and end the loopholes.

Amazon also has around 50million jobs at $0.10/day.

Sorry, Amazon investing in technology to help make itself move effcient / money shouldn't qualify as a tax write off.

TheGulagKnownAsCA 4 points ago

Why? By investing in themselves they’re doing more to help the economy and the average working person. That sounds a lot better than tax dollars going to slush funds or pointless social programs to support lazy people.

Let's say it costs $9 million to produce my product. I sell it for $10 million. That's $1 in gross profit so far. If I take every last penny of it to buy better machinery, that's my business. If that results in zero profit for the company that year, why the hell is that anything else's business? If I spend it on popcorn parties for employees, that's my damn business.

1
FrankEinstein 1 point ago

I understand that aspect. However, Amazon is using those expenses to offset the taxes they would owe on the profit they also make.

Take away the "Every last penny" from your equation and ask yourself, should they pay taxes on that profit?

They currently don't and that's the part I want fixed.

I'm sorry but you are misunderstanding when profit is calculated. Profit is calculated after ALL expenses. After cost of raw materials, after paying all employees, after buying floor cleaner, after paying for health insurance, after buying a new building (forgetting about depreciation for this example), after doing anything I want to make the company more efficient.

If there is nothing left over after that, then there is no profit. And no tax. Zero.

Amazon's reply here is actually outrageously unAmerican. They don't defend a basic concept of business. Instead they goad people into turning the country toward socialism.

FrankEinstein 1 point ago

Should amazon be taxed on their profit. Yes or no?

My stance is they should. You are arguing they shouldn't?

1
everylastjuan 1 point ago

Under the current law yes they should pay taxes on profit. But we apparently disagree on how profit is defined.

Also I would like the law changed so that corporations no longer pay taxes on profit, which would decrease prices for the consumer and also stimulate the economy.
