Bacon consumption appears to be the most reliable litmus that you don't abuse women and gays.

26
Bob383 26 points ago +26 / -0

It also makes you 100x less likely to spontaneously explode.

25
CT_MAGA 25 points ago +25 / -0

Parchment paper in the oven @ 350, 10 minutes then flip it, about another 10 minutes and done.

Tenderest bacon I have ever had. I will never make it any other way. I've tried 10 different varieties and they all come out the same. Parchment paper.

Then save that grease and spread on toast for the best toast ever

Use it in the frying pan instead of butter for eggs

Mix it into your grits (I grew up in the south)

Put it on pasta

Freeze it for later

I still can't understand how a pig is a filthy animal but a cow is fair game?

15
Warren_Puffitt 15 points ago +15 / -0

Exactly this. Everything this.

14
texaspede 14 points ago +14 / -0

You should come down to Texas and experience a hog hunt. They are vicious little beasts that destroy everything in their wake. Sweet delicious little vile beasts.

5
CT_MAGA 5 points ago +5 / -0

I am very aware of the ecological disaster that is going on there. I've watched most if not all of the Chopper videos. Looks like more fun than I could handle lol.

4

Last time I was in TX I had more deer jerky than I knew what to do with.

Good times!

The piglets are especially tender. Meat just falls off the bone.

9
grenades_and_ham 9 points ago +9 / -0

I'll do a pound at a time, on a big cookie sheet I sit in a cookie rack and lay the strips across it, bake at 350. We do save the grease for biscuits, gravy and to oil our cast iron cookware.

Nothing like a warm bacon sandwich on soft white bread with mayo and tomatoes.

3
INK10 3 points ago +3 / -0

I totally want to try this next weekend. So on a cookie sheet with parchment? Since cookie sheets are kinda shallow, does the bacon grease drip over into the oven? I normally wouldn't care but just got a new oven and don't want to make it messy so soon. I love bacon, my husband loves bacon and all my children, children-in-law and grandchildren love bacon. We are blessed.

3
defroach84 3 points ago +3 / -0

Would NOT recommend using a cookie sheet as grease can run off and start a fire on the floor of the oven's interior. Find a baking sheet or baking pan with a decent raised lip around the edge. That way none of that delicious grease can run off so you end up with the maximum amount to use for other cooking.

2
grenades_and_ham 2 points ago +2 / -0

I have a large cookie sheet and I line it with tin foil. Then I sit a cooling rack onto the cookie sheet then lay the strips of bacon 🥓 over the rack. Just make sure the strips don't hang over the sides. If they do you may have to get a bigger cookie sheet or just lay them lengthwise. I can get a one pound on a sheet, then I bake at 350 until done.

You can also place the strips in a container and store in the fridge for use throughout the week.

I like using the cooling rack because it keeps the bacon out of the grease and its easy to cleanup with the tin foil lined sheet.

1
WeinerLapTop 1 point ago +1 / -0

The rack is key.

7
Liberty4All 7 points ago +7 / -0

And in the South, we use bacon grease to season vegetables - greens, squash & onions, and lots of others. Every one of them is better with a little bacon grease.

Mom and Granny kept their bacon grease in a jar under the sink. I guess I am paranoid about food poisoning: I keep mine in a jar in the fridge.

4
FliesTheFlag 4 points ago +4 / -0

Use it in the frying pan instead of butter for eggs

this right here. can also spoil your dogs pour it onto their dry food and they dont know what the hell hit them besides love.

2
defroach84 2 points ago +2 / -0

Just be aware this may make for some really bad dog farts later on!

3
txladyvoter 3 points ago +3 / -0

UPVOTE!

Every time I try to do a whole package of bacon in the oven on a big cookie sheet it takes forever! I've used paper towels to absorb the grease!

You're telling me I've been abusing bacon all this time? The horror! The tears!

3
DemsFuckKids 3 points ago +3 / -0

well isn't call "FRYan"

3
WU_HAN_FRU 3 points ago +4 / -1

Save that shit in a jar under the sink. Never goes bad.

2
CurtMcDirt 2 points ago +2 / -0

You can use that bacon grease to heal wounds on your livestock...also keeps the hide from scarring

2
TheThreeSeashells 2 points ago +2 / -0

This is what should be on the Food Network instead of a bunch of snobby jerks trying to pass off undercooked pork with a side of quinoa on a bed of bean sprouts as "good food."

It Was dead when i walked in. they have every other booth blocked off. By the time i left there was one family. And two or three other individuals in there. We were all talking about the crazy shut down was and how happy we were to get back to the real normal. It really felt so good to interact with strangers again.

2
INK10 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm in NJ where they don't know grits from grease and no one does hash browns correctly. I learned about grits from my daddy (sorry just had to type it that way, it seems so Southern), anyway my Dad was a Navy Hospital Corpsman in WWII, Pacific theater. He did his training at Norfolk Va and came back to NJ with a love for grits and spam that never went away. Best Saturday morning breakfasts of my childhood. If we were really lucky it was grits and a little fried steak.

2
VoxVulgaris 2 points ago +2 / -0

My late dad served in the Pacific, too. USS Radford.

Great guys, our dads. They don't make them like that anymore, do they?

DoYouBelieveInMAGA 3 points ago +3 / -0

I've had one bad experience at the Awful Waffle, and it was BAD. It wasn't any of my local ones though. But we sat down and happened to be by the bathroom. After a couple minutes we heard a dude just going to town vomiting. It was like an over-the-top comedy sketch. And it went on for a LONG time. Honestly about ten minutes. Then he walks out and it's the fucking cook.

And yeah I still ate it.

5
bludstone 5 points ago +5 / -0

your local waffle house being a shithole depends entirely on if its in a shithole neighborhood or not.

Last time I went to my local wafflehouse, it was clean, service was good, but there was a drunk group being really loud and drunk. I dont know what people expect at 1am though.

I've made it a thing to always go on second dates at Waffle House. If a girl can't sit down at the Awful Waffle, she ain't my type.

2
TranceDj 2 points ago +2 / -0

Same! I'm currently single but when I date I love taking women to WH. I took a date to the waffle house after a night on the town once. She was dressed to the nines but complained the whole time. Relationship ended shortly after that. The last woman I dated was blown away on how good the food is there. She had never eaten there. That relationship ended due to her radical feminist beliefs.

Long story short, WH is my people! I grew up dirt poor; one of my earliest memories is living in a house with an outhouse. I worked my ass off, joined the Army, went to grad school, drive a Mercedes Benz, own property, blah blah blah. Point being, if you cant get down with common hard-working people like those at WH, I have no place for you in my life.

One of the joys I take from a road trip is going to a Denny's in a Flying J truck stop. Something about being surrounded by truckers, parents having a meal with their kids, and "Flo" serving me a beverage while I look out the window at the open grass and trees beyond the parking lot makes me feel just fine. Then I can get up and peruse the t-shirts, vehicle gear, hiking sticks and snacks on the way out.

The restaurants in Texas are opening up to limited capacity seating very soon; I think I'll take a seat at the bar then. They even left the syrup on the table from the previous patron. They still got it.

12
Thedaythe_redditdied [S] 12 points ago +12 / -0

They did change a few things. Like paper menus instead of the big laminated ones. And they just threw that on a copy machine so it’s hard to read but I don’t care I loved it.

4
Rugar22 4 points ago +4 / -0

Meh not a big deal. Menus are the most unsanitary things anyway.

3
DoYouBelieveInMAGA 3 points ago +3 / -0

Who even needs the menu

1
ParkingLotRanger 1 point ago +1 / -0

I just walk in and arrange the condiments in an intricate pattern to signal my ordering intentions. The staff give me a knowing wink, they know what’s up.

Since moving to the South I still haven't had a chance to try Waffle House.

And now I'm on a diet, 20 more pounds and I can go to waffle house. Damn delicious sweets.

12

Pro life tip: Its best while drunk at 3:00 am. Or the next morning while hungover.

6
DoYouBelieveInMAGA 6 points ago +6 / -0 (edited)

Best restaurant grits you can find. I recommend doubling up on starches cause the hashbrowns are great, too. And don't get the biscuits.

I've actually heard a yankee say they put sugar in their grits. I always thought that was a meme. Two packs of pepper, one half pack of salt, as much butter as you want. Dip everything in it - toast, bacon, eggs, but especially toast. And just be a normal human.

Little known secret their country ham is the shiznit.

Ebbie8708 11 points ago +11 / -0

I’ve been to a Waffle House in Atlanta. Pretty sure eating there increases your immunity by just physically stepping through the front door.

4
WU_HAN_FRU 4 points ago +4 / -0

It’s good for you.

weird thing is, i have always seen people inside the waffle houses for the last month....assumed they were open...

I travel for business in Atlanta. Been to Waffle House in Atlanta. Kek.

7
strawberryismyjam 7 points ago +7 / -0

Last time I was at a waffle House, there was a sign saying it was a gun free place.

I asked about it and the guy working was like "Yeah, guns aren't allowed in here.

So I left. I don't go to gun free places for two reasons. 1, It's more of a target for someone wanting to go on a killing spree. 2, I don't want to financially support a place that wants my rights limited.

A few months after that, some nut job went into a waffle House and shot it up.

5
Rugar22 5 points ago +5 / -0

That's probably that location only. All the Waffle Houses I've been to have allowed guns inside.

4
strawberryismyjam 4 points ago +4 / -0

IIRC It was near the Tenn/Alabama border.

3
Rugar22 3 points ago +3 / -0

Now that's strange, you're in the bible belt. You would think a sign like that would never be around there.

2
strawberryismyjam 2 points ago +2 / -0

Agreed.

I was pretty surprised.

Well done, Pede. Except you forgot the cheese, onions, ham and Tabasco in those hash browns.

4
Rugar22 4 points ago +4 / -0

Definitely a hell yeah to the Tabasco.

6
pursuitoftruth1776 6 points ago +6 / -0

Is that caramel flavored liberal tears on the waffles? Noice!

6
porkrice 6 points ago +6 / -0

I love Waffle House! My only gripe is the syrup makes the waffle cold because the syrup is cold. Some restaurants have it warmed up in the bottle somehow. Maybe it’s been sitting in crock pot water or something.

6
Joesf23 6 points ago +6 / -0

I honestly don’t know exactly what the ‘rules’ are I was hiding in the woods for the last week. But I think with distancing restaurant can open.

14
TehAgent 14 points ago +14 / -0

If we can go grocery shopping and pump gas, we can do everything else too. Aside from schools those are the 'dirtiest' places to go.

5
PepesCovfefe 5 points ago +5 / -0

Interesting. They still can’t open at all in CO; don’t know if anyone knows when they’re supposed to be able to here?

1

I think there are some that are open now, at least according to their store locator.

Smothered, covered and capped hashbrowns please! I'd never even seen a Waffle House until I got stationed in the south (2004, grew up in Boston, IHOP territory 😂) but man did they come through at 3AM many, many times.

2
OMC-RADIO 2 points ago +2 / -0

Thank you for your service, u/DocOne. I moved from Michigan to Tennessee several years back for college. All the city kids knew about "Awful Waffle" at 3 am after partying or clubbing. It was there that I first learned of the Western Omelet. It's not on the menu, but they'll make it for you if asked. As an omelet connoisseur, I've yet to find anyone that makes a fluffier or more perfectly crisped omelet than Waffle House.

2
DocOne 2 points ago +2 / -0

Were you at Vandy or UT? I was at Ft Campbell. We used to go chase Vandy girls lol. It was awesome, they tended to be very accommodating 😂😂.

1
RenaissanceOfHope 1 point ago +1 / -0

Wow! I wonder if they would be accommodating to a hotel industry employee (college educated though).

4

4
Block_Helen 4 points ago +4 / -0

Waffle House never before had to deal with being forced to shut down. It was always about staying open when they didn't have to. Hence the Index.

Says a lot about this particular situation and what's happened to the country.

1
ianpatrick1966 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yep, the government made them shut down.

3

Yesterday I went to a small local establishment to order dinner. No one inside, a couple folks outside I assume were also waiting. And the waitress/barmaid asked if I wanted something to drink while I waited. I asked incredulously, "To drink here at the bar?". She said "Sure!" I was soooo happy, felt so, shall I say, NORMAL!

Hashbrowns: cover, smothered, chunked

the best hashbrowns on the planet. something about it that cant be recreated at home, no matter how times i or anybody else has tried.

1
OMC-RADIO 1 point ago +1 / -0

Love the WH hash browns!

I've tried duplicating them on and off for years. Learned to make some good hash browns, but they're not the same. I think you have to use a big-ass griddle, oil temp just right, and the attitude that only comes with at least 2 waitresses screaming at you all day.

3
SAW2TH 3 points ago +3 / -0

Waffle House has always been the litmus for the country’s wellbeing.

Things are gonna be fine.

3

I don't know who Bert is other than what I read on the Waffle House menu.
