Just the ones in New York. Everywhere else they're getting laid off like a fart in the wind. But the media has a narrative to obey so to hell with logic. Helloooooo age of medical authoritarianism.

QuranIsToiletPaper 11 points ago +11 / -0

The word "hero" has been overused in modern news media to the point that it has lost meaning.

Even the primary dictionary definitions show a dilution over time:

"1a: a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability
b: an illustrious warrior
c: a person admired for achievements and noble qualities
d: one who shows great courage"

It has gone from meaning "demigod" to "person paid to do a risky or unpleasant job."

While soldiers are paid, it is probably the only modern usage of the word that has any direct relation to the original definition.

RN here in the south. We dont get paid extra for anything, it's hourly. We usually have 4 covid cases in my entire hospital (it's a big hospital).... We are also being laid off and having our hours cut. No overtime as well. The hospital gets the money for this ventilator/diagnosis stuff, not RNs, but currently we have more open beds than I've ever seen or imagined due to cancelling elective procedures. Most hospitals are hurting... We arent heroes, this is cringy FB nursing shit. Also quit hating on us for working lots of hours to earn decent pay. Hospitals in the south dont pay shit, I could wait at restaurants and make our base starting pay (talking in the teens and mandatory 4 yrs BSN degree). The majority on nursing are dems, but there are pedes like me as well. Try not to group the entire nursing career.

Absolutely. I got your back fellow RN. These dem regards are making us based nurse who work for our living look bad. My hospital has 22 positive covid patients on my floor alone. 9
midgetpornrocks 9 points ago +9 / -0

Agree with this. Also depends on the level. The higher up in academia you go, I believe the more liberal they become. And really, the higher up in academia you go, the less essential you become. Looking back at my college career, almost all of my professors are people who never had real world experience.

6
SwordandBored11 6 points ago +6 / -0

The higher up you go, the less interaction you have with the people you are supposed to be serving (the kids). It's no wonder most top-down programs are shit for the kids, and this is coming from a teacher.

2

1
cmndr_pepe_spacefrce 1 point ago +1 / -0

This is very true. To be at the top, academia has to be your whole life and only career. A guy who works in the private industry and teaches as a passion to help future generations won’t get into administrative positions to make decisions about hiring and curriculum. There’s also the factor that Marxists made a concerted effort since the previous century to infiltrate academics, music, and Hollywood to influence western culture and degrade it from within.

That's mostly right. The term should be based off a heroic action and not just doing your daily job. But I have to disagree about the role of our soldiers. I spent 8 years in the military and I went in voluntarily. I was awarded a few medals but never did anything "heroic." But there are others, those who were drafted and sent off to fight, and those in our world wars who to me went above and beyond the normal call of duty. I place those folks high up on that pedestal.

Historically and factually all of the above have committed some of the nastiest and most vile crimes ever.

Police have imprisoned innocents with planted evidence, doctors have tested on live people secretly (misdiagnose etc), lawyers just protect the bad and imprisoned the good.

I see a nurse lose their emotion every day when I work at my unit. The stuff is really becoming an echochamber here, but every nurse I work with has been phenomenal and against this tikdick horseshit.

And no, there are no bonuses and if you want overtime, you will be taking care of the sickest COVID patients in the now eight (opened up from four) ICUs we have in the hospital.

The majority of people do not see the actual impact this goofyass china flu has on patients, nurses, and healthcare providers.

5
cmndr_pepe_spacefrce 5 points ago +5 / -0

The impact it has on most healthcare providers is them being forced to take all their PTO and take reduced hours and wages. The numbers aren’t there to support the panic and shutdown, and those are available for everyone.

1
General_Kek 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don’t think it is that simple. We had to intubate a nurse that caught it. Our PPE - the N95 mask we have to reuse for seven shifts. People (the ones that aren’t doing those dumbass dances) are demoralized and are overwhelmed. The patients are high in acuity and their ratios do not change. Big impact on people.

0
cmndr_pepe_spacefrce 0 points ago +1 / -1

The hospitals are not overwhelmed. The majority of nurses are not working normal hours. The supply deficits are caused by the panic, not the disease itself. The nurses wouldn’t be so overwhelmed and demoralized if there wasn’t so much hysteria stressing them out bc the numbers just aren’t there to justify it. The disease hasn’t done nearly as much damage as the panic. We still have more than twice as many flu deaths as Covid deaths. The same people at risk of dying from Covid are at risk of dying from the flu, heart disease, etc. and do so in bigger numbers than Covid-19.

0
General_Kek 0 points ago +1 / -1

I work in a hospital and our unit is full, just like eight other ICUs. Nurses are overwhelmed because patients are all high acuity. Every single one is on minimum 55% oxygen, most are at 100% via nonrebreather, BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, or tubed. They are very heavy patients, clinically speaking.

We know how to treat flu, not COVID. Plaquenil is effective in very early stages of the disease and does NOTHING for the cytokine storm many people are facing, and subsequently die from.

Many of my COVID patients go from 2 liters per minute via nasal cannula to 100% via nonrebreather mask within 48 hours. The flu and pneumonia affect the pulmonary system whereas COVID affects blood (hemoglobin) where the supplemental oxygen simply does nothing. People dying from flu being at the “same rate” is meaningless when you cannot treat COVID. Flu patients do not require nearly as much care as COVID patients and do not desaturate nearly as fast and nowhere to the level of patients with COVID. My last patient who took his bipap off dropped to 10% SpO2 and did not improve beyond 80% until an hour on the BiPAP.

No matter how many people downvote me, the truth still stands - mortality rate is meaningless when you do not know how to treat the virus. The R-naught of three is dangerous enough, much worse than the flu.

If I had to bet $100, I would bet that you and the rest of the people who call this “just the flu” (there was a retard that went back and forth with me that just kept repeating himself) do not actually work in medicine, infectious disease, or epidemiology.

While I agree the hysteria is retarded and has to be addressed (and the country reopened), to argue that this is just the flu and tell people that hospitals are not overwhelmed is silly. The operational ICU capacity for general medicine to ICU ratio is 1:10. We are currently at full capacity in the ICUs, with many gen med and step-down units having to be modulated for ICU care.

1
cmndr_pepe_spacefrce 1 point ago +1 / -0

I’m a neurophysiologist, so it’s an OR job, not ICU, and I work in many hospitals and it’s the same in all of them. We have found ways to treat this disease bc many areas are having close to 99.9% recovery rates using hydroxychloroquine combined with other drugs. Recent studies have found the infection rates are 50-80x higher than they thought bc people aren’t even showing symptoms. The only places that are supposedly overrun never even used the extra hospitals built for them or the military hospitals sent to them, so save it. How can you say the mortality rate means nothing if you don’t know how to treat it??? That’s beyond absurd. A low mortality rate means we don’t need to shutdown for it, whether you know how to treat it or not. I’m not going to question whether you’re in healthcare or not to dodge an honest discussion like you did but I don’t think you’re making very sound decisions about this disease.

The most disgusting thing about the past five weeks has been the #StayHome Brigade (read: teacher’s union) lecturing all their unemployed family and friends that this is for the best while they continue to work from home. Teachers are collectively nauseating.

vk003200222 17 points ago +17 / -0

Nurse here. Unfortunately this is true for a vast majority of nurses. Most people who get into nursing aren't interested in advancing themselves. They know that nursing and the medical field in general is great for pay and benefits so they get the associates or bachelors degree and stop there. Due to the nature of interaction between members of the interprofessional healthcare team (yay buzzwords), different specialties within the hospital all think they are the biggest influence on the outcome of the patient. So when your ex thought she was smarter than the doctors its because of a mindset that is educated and trained into nurses. The truth is, the majority of nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, case managers, cnas, orderlies, unit secretaries, nurse managers, er techs, etc are all dumbasses that barely passed the minimum requirements for certification and licensure. I would change the saying "trust all doctors and nurses" to "be your own advocate and demand full explanation".

The more you learn the more you realize how little you know. The depth of human experience and knowledge is so expansive that it is impossible for any one person to come even close to learning everything they should. That's not even counting all the stuff humanity has yet to discover or learn.

Anyone who thinks they know it all is extremely full of themselves and willfully ignorant. This is part of why we work together as a society and a species - together we can fill in each other's knowledge gaps and question one another's points of view. When you start thinking you're better than others and refusing to listen to alternate viewpoints you are cutting your ability to learn off at the knees.

11

I used to date a doctor. The stories I heard from her about the nurses at her hospitals scared the crap out of me. Many of the have such a toxic superiority complex its unreal.

The worst are the ones that go and get a doctorate of nursing degree. Theres one near my apartment that runs a private office and all the signage on her door is “Dr. So-and-so”. No MD, no DO, have to look very close at a small sticker at the bottom of the door that says “doctor of nursing”. What a deceptive tactic.

35
cook_does 35 points ago +35 / -0

Most of them have been laid off at this point. No one seems to be talking about the fact that hospitals nation wide aren’t doing elective procedures and many people are just staying home instead of going to the ER. The parts of hospitals still open is the ER, ICU, and Labor and Delivery.

And me in the psych ward, cray-cray doesn't chill just because of Chairman Xi's Winnie the Flu

My hospital is doing a pretty good job of keeping ACU, OR, and PACU, staff busy, they still do emergency cases, and when they aren't doing that, we got them helping out on the floors that are still open. I read a figure in 2007, it said between recruiting, training, signing bonuses, and all that, it cost about $10k to hire a nurse, so they are doing what they can to keep the ones they already have knowing this will one day be over and it would cost a fortune to rehire all the staff in ACU, OR, and PACU.

I never went into ICU, that was my wife's thing. I did do the EMT and Paramedic thing a little bit though (my first health care job). Definitely interesting and in some ways a little higher paced. It all depends on the situation.

You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Wouldn't it have been better to depict the superheros as like clapping or something. More of a sign of appreciation rather than worship. Very authoritarian viewpoint from whoever made it. Still really dumb either way. If aliens invaded I would stick with the Hulk everyday of the week over a nurse.

3

Good point. Also all those ‘superheroes’ are owned by studios beholden to China

Please don't hate on all of us because of a bunch of tools. Management is responsible for feeding this shit too. I hate this shit.

4
Toucansexual 4 points ago +4 / -0

Can you talk to management to lower their ridiculous prices?

Swear to Christ, you guys charge $20 for generic aspirin.

4
MaxineWaters4Prez 4 points ago +4 / -0

Ha. I wish. Even with our health insurance at the highest tier, the epidural for my wife when she had our last kid after insurance cost me $1700.

4
vk003200222 4 points ago +4 / -0

Another DUDE nurse. How you doing?!?! Sorry about the high anesthesia prices. My wife is a CRNA. Hope you and your family are safe through all this bullshit!

1
Khryn 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm not a nurse, I'm a Paramedic. We don't dictate the prices at all, it's people in cubicles with calculators that are trying to get the most out of what insurance companies will pay.

I just do my damn job regardless of poor or rich.

11
freewillsetstruth 11 points ago +11 / -0

They're doing their fucking jobs! At some point in their life they didn't know what else to do, so they went to nursing school. Maybe they even wanted to be a nurse. There is a good chance there was already a nurse in their family. That being said, this is where the path fucking led them! To their career. They aren't special. If anything they are cynical and judgemental of the people they care for. Many of them are women and therefore have some maternal instinct to fall back on. But they take cues from the sociopath narcissists doctors they work for. If they enjoy their job, they should take reward in those they are able to serve. If they don't they should fuck off! I shouldn't feel obligated to pat them on the back anymore than I would a bagger at my grocery store. Or anyone who has made a career of service!

All the Imaginary Super Heros doing the CHINA bow? yeah. GFY nurses with God Complexes.

7
Kekbewithus 7 points ago +7 / -0

88% of their patients on ventilators died.

The real heroes are the doctors, pharmacists, and patients who actually had the guts to prescribe, deliver, and test an “unproven” drug like Hydroxychloroquine to actually help save the lives of thousands of people.

4
vk003200222 4 points ago +4 / -0

Pharmacists don't get to be on that list. They don't give a shit less on what they dispense. There also isn't any liability for them as long as they dispense the propper medication, propper dosage, to the correct patient.

Doctors don't need guts to prescribe untested medications, in fact there is less liability presribing because the understanding and agreement between provider and patient is that the outcome is unknown.

Patient yes it takes guts to take an untested medication. I'll definitely give you that one.

3
Kekbewithus 3 points ago +3 / -0

I would actually put anyone working during a “pandemic” on that list including truckers, pharmacists, grocery store clerks, farmers, and even people staying home and losing their jobs. We know it isn’t that dangerous now but it wasn’t so clear a month ago.

Probably almost every single person in this country has been a hero except democrat governors and politicians, fake news media, and leftists doctors who watch 88% of their patients die without changing treatment protocol or even TRYING the best known pharmaceuticals (Hydroxychloroquine)

IYDKMIGTHTKY 7 points ago +7 / -0

Holy shit, can they please stop doing this kind of thing? I'm disturbed by the level of narcissism on display from some in the medical community during all this. All jobs have risks. Before I got laid off, I was on the road all day, every day. Things were going great, right up until the moment a freezer-sized buck decided to durka durka itself into my little Kia's windshield. Yeah, it sucked and was scary, but its a risk you take being on the road for your job. I didn't jump onto Instagram and fish for brownie points, I called a tow truck. You don't get to be a nurse only when it is easy and things are calm. This is the job you chose. Have a little self-awareness.

3
vk003200222 3 points ago +3 / -0

I can't tell you how hard I laughed,

6
jeffrai 6 points ago +6 / -0

So sick of this self-congratulating bullshit. I’m a nurse and I’m simply doing the job I signed up for. I could leave anytime I want! I’m thankful that I still have my job and can afford my bills, while other nurses are demanding hazard pay. Several nurses at my work have VOLUNTARILY furloughed and multiple units have closed due to cancellation of elective surgeries and refocused resources onto COVID. My state hit it’s peak on the 18th and cases have been plateauing since. I’m glad that people are thankful for healthcare workers, but there’s a difference between being a true hero and doing what you signed up for.

And with the way Disney is crumbling, they will go after anyone to make some money.

5

4
jive-ass-turkey 4 points ago +4 / -0

The way they are bowing would indicate the superheroes were submitting to the nurses shamefully.

If it was meant to be a respectful bow to their aptitude as medical professionals, the superheroes would have made eye contact and a level head while bowing.

This is something us Americans/round-eye/Gaijin get wrong all the time.

I think we just don't have customs that change based on a person's social status, although we aren't very far removed from a time when we did.

Not surprised that the oblivious cucks that put this steaming turd together didn't know the proper way to greet a man with respect. I doubt they know how to shake a man's hand in America, much less master another culture's greeting.

Yes, America is a culture. Don't like that? Fuck you. See?

Disclaimer: This is a simplistic take on the culture surrounding bowing, the impact social status has on the appropriate protocol, and the seemingly unending layers of nuance surrounding it in many Asian cultures.

5
vk003200222 5 points ago +7 / -2

Geez, everytime I scroll down I find another one of your posts and it hurts me in my giggle berries. Look I can completely agree with your sentiment. Dipshit nurses piss me off all the time at work. Every single industry has a majority of dipshits. Prove me wrong. But to say FUCK NURSES is patently wrong. You should say FUCK ALL DIPSHIT NURSES. I'm a nurse. I'm a male. I'm a hardcore Trump Conservative. Would you fuck me? I treat patients, I clock out, I go home. I do it because its my job, not because I think I'm some heroe. Those that do sicken me to my core.

Besides, the nurses aren't the ones diagnosing the patients as COVID-19 patients. Thats the clinical providers. So you should say FUCK DOCTORS AND NURSE PRACTITIONERS AND PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS. I can tell you I've diagnosed 3 people in the past week as suspected COVID-19 patients due to their symptoms (I'm a Nurse Practitioner).

D-doctor Manhattan?

DOCTOR MANHATTAN?? REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

To explain: Dr. Manhattan is a character from Watchmen, Alan Moore's masterwork in which he examines (and dissects) a small group of superheroes. Manhattan is a physicist granted superhuman temporal and physical powers, but becomes less "human" over the course of the book due to his loss of ability to understand (and care about) the human condition.

And they took this character AND HAD HIM BOW DOWN TO NURSES.

I have no mouth, and I must REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

3
Toucansexual 3 points ago +3 / -0

Dr. Manhattan is without a doubt the single most powerful beings in comic history. He can deconstruct you at a sub-atomic level while fingering a chick at her place as he teleports his conscience to Mars to lament about being himself, all at the same moment on time

As a nurse working directly with patients, I have dealt with the lies and ridiculous bullshit government medical bureaucracies regularly pronounce for years

I am extremely pleased that the public in general seems to be now alerted to this.

I fail to see the need to vilify all nurses over this.

I’ve had colleagues who are stupid or control freaks, both as a nurse and before I was a nurse.

I worked in factories in different industries before I was a nurse.

I’m focused on Chyna and the political class and their media as the enemies, not individual groups of Americans according to skin color or how they earn a living.

I’m fortunate enough to work in healthcare, but not in an essential department. I don’t want to be around any of this. But, if you’re a nurse that works on a floor, you’re exposed to everything, and I mean everything. This is just another thing to remind them to wash their hands and use isolation precautions. The nurses and doctors who are working 18 hour shifts should be pretty upset, but more with their employer than anyone. Why isn’t there a national call for nurses and doctors in these hard hit areas? If it were say, a terrorist attack, they would have drs and nurses flying in from everywhere to help. Get some of these tiktok attention hoors to fly in and help.

2

You're allowed to quit a job. Not quitting a job you signed up for isn't being a hero. Yes, it sucks going 13 hours without being able to take off a mask. But there are people working just as hard who get no recognition.

2
OMC-RADIO 2 points ago +2 / -0

My daughter and I had to pick up lunch the other day and saw our favorite sub spot was open. There were maybe 15 or more people in there waiting, so I asked who was next. Turns out they all had ordered and were waiting for 2 girls to make all the orders. One of the girls looked at us and smiled through her mask and said she be with us in a few minutes if we wanted to wait. We smile back and said that'll be fine. Eventually, we ordered and were told they'll call us when its ready. Over the next 25 minutes, we watched these 2 girls, who couldn't be older than 22 make maybe 30 or more subs while taking phone orders too. I was glad to see the tip jar full and we also added a big tip for them as well. These two girls, with smiles behind their masks, feeding all these people, risking their own health too... no camera crews, no applause, no oohs and ahhs. Are they any less heroic during this insane time? Are they not deserving of praise? Shouldn't the restaurant workers, the truck drivers, the ammo suppliers, gas station cashiers, the people making masks by hand be getting a lot more attention than hospital staff tic tok videos?

Heros are found in more than just capes, scrubs or behind badges.

Thanks for reading. If you eat at a restaurant, leave a good tip.

Still waiting for someone to thank the hospital administrators, check in desk personnel, the security guards, maintenance personnel and most important, the janitorial staff.

Keeping the house clean so Doc can do his job seems like it’s kinda important also.

2
vk003200222 2 points ago +2 / -0

Hospital administrators should never be thanked. Check in desk personnel usually sit at a distance from everyone anyways. Security guards only ever get involved if there is something to do. Maintenance personnel same thing.

Janitorial staff, yes they need some thanks because they handle the most soiled materials. Absolutely help with the efficiency of turn over.

1
Fourtyandfourtyfive 1 point ago +1 / -0

So, fuck the ones running the hospital, signing paychecks and keeping the lights on?

Fuck the people that come in first contact that gets a patient to a bed and treatment?

Fuck security, they don’t do anything unless a thug shows his ass in the building or looking for a nurse to mug?

Fuck maintenance. This toilet will fix itself.

I see janitorial didn’t offend you. This was the whole point. Everybody has a job to do. Needs to be done and done well.

Being employed doesn’t a hero make.

(Ex military here, I hated that hero claptrap being thrown around for soldiers. A few were, many were not.)

Ppffttt. DeNang Dick honored grocery store workers as heroes. I can’t wrap my head around that!

6
ObongoForPrison2020 6 points ago +6 / -0 (edited)

Honestly, I hold grocery store workers in a higher regard right now. Most of them are showing up to work every day dealing with a mentally retarded, panicked customer base. They’re cleaning, restocking, and keeping their end of the supply chain running as smoothly as can be expected (at least at the store I shop in). You can tell they are stressed, but they are still friendly and helpful. Doctors and nurses are trained and expected to be able to handle a “pandemic.” Grocery store workers are predominantly part-time with limited benefits and no expectation that they work through stupid shit like this. I think they’re doing a great job.

2
Hillarysudders 2 points ago +2 / -0

True. Forgot about all the retards they have to deal with.

I had a CPE internship in a hospital a couple years ago and I was assigned to cover 2 or 3 units as a Chaplin. Most of the nurses are great, especially those who were a little older. Great people, humble people who really cared for their patients.

But then there were a handful that were just miserable. Mostly young women in their very early 20's. Extremely condescending regarding their patients and did not come off as understanding. There were a couple who were just stuck up and would just look right passed you in the hallway, not even a nod.

That experience soured my view of them, and it's a shame because most nurses are great. It's just a small few who are narcissists with a god-complex who look down from their ivory tower on everyone else.

Seriously, if doctors weren't required for prescriptions I'd just give myself some hydroxychloroquine + zinc/azithromycin if I got the virus. They like to give HCQ post-respiratory failure when it doesn't do anything instead of prophylactically(early on in the infection) and then claim in their "studies" that HCQ doesn't work. Sickening.
