My mother, 90 years old, passed away Feb 20th. Pneumonia, then bowel obstruction etc... I spoke with the nurses often as I was constantly at the hospital from Dec thru Feb.

One nurse was telling me at the time, they had many more flu patients this year. She also said that it just kept returning.

Interesting now that I think about it.

There are a lot of seniors dying in nursing homes from pneumonia and they won't test them for a virus as the main cause of pneumonia in nursing homes is aspiration of food and liquids.

If your mother had a stroke or other dementia condition, then aspiration was likely going to happen eventually.
