Any small car made by the big three are junk. The cavalier? More like crapalier. The neon? Id rather walk, I'd get there sooner. The dart? Just have the tow truck on speed dial.

3
slrpnls 3 points ago

For what it's worth my late 90s Cavalier got almost 200k miles before I sold it (no major repairs, just rusting out due to salt on the roads.) After that I bought a Hyundai (made in Alabama) and it's been pretty darn reliable.

2
LeftistsLoveStreetSh 2 points ago

Hyundai is actually now more reliable than honda and toyota! You got lucky with the chevy car. I used to manage a car lot and we avoided buying anything other than full size trucks and SUVs from the big US 3. They would always need so much shit to make them sellable that they weren't worth selling. Then when you do sink money and time into them they break down on the customer soon after who gives you a nice 1 star review.

They took a loan out against the logo, the f150, and Mustang brands.

You can look up ads before and after they paid the loan off. Before the loan was paid, the FORD logo wasn't very prevalent, after, it was plastered everywhere.

GM sold the plant to Lordstown Motors. But it would be great to see LMC build some medical equipment as well. Ford has a few empty plants in Ohio that would be good to converto over to ventilator production as well

Nope, must have passed the globe to Big Daddy Pence for a whole four hour break or something.

All I know is he's picked it back up, ate his Wheaties, and is loaded for bear today.

If he wants shit done he needs to make it Law and send in his own observers to monitor production and costs. How many more times do we have to sit and watch POTUS Trust scumbags, get betrayed, and then listen to fake news use it to smear him? How many more fucking times Mr. President?

I love the Man but he is not perfect and keeps making some significant mistakes. Nobody seems to want to talk about it however. Its only winning. Thats not being objective. Trump's base has failed to put enough pressure on him to drain the swamp, and other things.

And here we are in a Pandemic watching lives being sacrificed to try and make POTUS look bad. At what point can he just declare martial law to deal with both the Pandemic and the COUP/Treason that is ongoing? Why not use a heavy hand to restore order and normalcy to America? Not one Trump supporter will change their mind and vote Dem because of it.

It gets old people.

2

26
Nicholas 26 points ago

Kinda shows you whos running the show when you can "diversity hire" your head of the company.

Hint: It's not the CEO

8
jive-ass-turkey 8 points ago

Who is then? I don't follow the auto sector close enough to know the nuance of their corporate power structure.

I don't care if she isn't the "real" leader. Having a diversity hire in a position of authority is one of the most toxic things you can do to a productive work environment.

It signals to the top producing/highest productivity employees that performance is no longer the guiding metric upon which you will be evaluated. That the former meritocracy will be gradually replaced by a nebulous set of rules based on controversial premises not accepted by a majority of society.

It signals the beginning of the end to many people, myself included, and many of the top producers will begin looking for alternate employers with culture's more closely aligned with the company's original meritocratic principles, that they thrived under.

The good news is the former companies normally nose dive after making such myopic and sweeping changes that have nothing to do with market forces or evidence and more to do with emotions and politics. And the latter benefits from the addition of higher productivity employees focused on results, of which you can never have enough.

The only problem is when the government steps in and says the consequences are too scary so we need to try to put lip stick on this pig and manage by committee. Emotions, yet again, get inserted where they don't belong and mistakes are inevitably made.

The only thing more maddening than watching it happen is knowing those market forces they are so afraid of will eventually lead to a better, stronger, more robust overall economy able to withstand short-term periods of retraction without massive government bailout and artificial stimulus.

The long term costs associated with such stimulus, and the shaky evidence the belief that they will ultimately be successful is based on, is not given nearly the amount of focus and scrutiny it deserves, IMO.

5
OGpsywar 5 points ago

Those companies exist in trusts and funds. Example: GM and 'Teachers' were the major shadow owners of the 9/11 Buildings (and major, monetary, beneficiaries of its $4+ (?) Billion insurance payout).

Those international (globalist) manufacturing interests share top board members and shareholders with the '2B2F' Banks and InQtel tech billionaire firms.

1
jive-ass-turkey 1 point ago

Interesting. I was not aware of that. Any pointers on which direction I should go hunting for this info?

1
OGpsywar 1 point ago

The closest I could get on the current state of balckholed internet was a gloss from Snopes trying to backstop Silverstein via the concept that 'he wasn't a sole investor'. (Apparently conspiracies can't exist if there's 'more than one criminal'. 🤡🌎)

"(Silverstein) led a consortium of investors and lenders which included GMAC Commercial Mortgage (a General Motors subsidiary), Westfield America Inc. (a shopping center developer), and real estate investor Lloyd Goldman."

2016
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/wtc-terrorism-insurance/

I came by the particular info (far more of it) ten years earlier via a 9/11 anniversary show by Noory, Coast to Coast, 95% certain 2006. One of his guests was a CIA¿ Forensic Accountant, .. brutal skillset, those guys. 😮

Check back in a couple of days .. if I dig up a name I'll append it to thread. -- Or, the show itself is likely available in the Coast archive for the minimum temp membership.

Obama ran on 'GM is still in business.' Ridiculous. If a company the size of GM is ran so bad it can't ride out a recession, it needs to fail, get sold, and let new and nimbler companies spring up.

44
Modern_Times 44 points ago

GM got smashed in 2008 because it was more of a financial services company than a car company. I remember I had a mortgage held by GMAC financing.

16
LostViking1985 16 points ago

When loans for your primary product/service take priority, things go to shit. Look at student loans. Quality and value take a back seat.

10
Thep1mp 10 points ago

Yup. Previous management had sold off the more valuable parts of the company to fund unsustainable concessions they kept giving to the unions . They didn’t care as long as they got their massive salaries, bonuses and golden parachutes. The sold the future of the company and put the money in their pockets and walked. In the end the finance division was basically all they had left- then the 2008 crisis hit.

4
TenFeetHigher 4 points ago

Which is now Ally, if I'm not mistaken.

3
slrpnls 3 points ago

You are correct.

One of the best cash (as in not stock or property) investments I ever made was buying up CDs in GMAC before they turned into Ally. They are still a decent online bank with better rates than many others.

2
Tokyo20DrinkingGame 2 points ago

Yep, GMAC is now Ally. I know this because Jimmie Johnson's sponsorship is now the second time that team owner Rick Hendrick had a car sponsored by them. The previously sponsored Rick's late son, Ricky. This is the same Rick Hendrick who was convicted of mail fraud charges and faked leukemia treatments to get house arrest, and later was pardoned by Bill Clinton after Rick had his good friend, Bank of America CEO Hugh McColl, pay the Clinton Foundation $500,000. Ally Financial's CEO, Jeff Brown, is a McColl disciple. (source: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/core-quality-leader-according-ally-174451826.html)

3
xopi 3 points ago (edited)

My previous car was a GM vehicle. What an overpriced piece of shit. I rode out the entire 39 month lease term and that thing was a nightmare.

The infotainment system had non stop issues since day 1. I even took video of it multiple times completely freaking out and malfunctioning. Switching modes. Cranking up the volume all the way up or down for no reason. Switching stations. Turning off and on randomly Took it to the dealer multiple times. "Unable to reproduce problem". Bonus, one time it even happened as the service advisor was in the car with me. Still unable to reproduce.

Two years in, steering wheel buttons stopped working all together. They didn't bother fixing it.

This one is more of a dealership issue. They offered, in writing, free oil changes for as long as I owned the car. What they didn't tell you is even though I made an appointment, BOTH times I would go to the dealership at 8am, and would not leave until 6pm. They KEPT ME LOCKED IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR TEN FUCKING HOURS WHILE THEY DID MY FREE OIL CHANGE. Yes, I was able to uber eats some lunch in, but that is extremely unacceptable. A standard oil change SHOULD NOT TAKE TEN HOURS. No one gave a shit. First time ok it was a fluke, second time at noon I said you know what, fuck this, I'm not wasting AN ENTIRE FUCKING DAY here again.

2.5 years in, every single interior light bulb burned out in a span of a week.

literally SIX HOURS after the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty expired, when I went to go start my car at 6AM the next day, battery died. For lunch I had to jump it again. Leaving work I had to jump it again. I called GM, they told me to go fuck myself because my warranty had expired less than 24 hours ago but they would be happy to sell me a new battery at an insanely inflated price.

I turned in that car a year ago and I haven't received anything from them. I feel no shame in turning in that car with only 3 oil changes on file (I did one myself) and almost 40,000 miles, broken buttons, broken infotainment, broken rear map light, and with a battery I purposely bought at a junkyard for $20 because fuck them. I've had a Japanese car (made in USA) since then and absolutely zero complaints. I'm paying a little more (about 15% more every month) than with the GM car, but it's not even in the same ballpark as my previous GM vehicle. And yes, I lease. I'm actually one of the few people that because of my tax situation, it actually kind of makes financial sense to lease.

GM has been fucked for a long time. I never recommend This American Life anymore, but they did a great couple of pieces on NUMMI, the partnership between GM and Toyota.

https://www.thisamericanlife.org/403/transcript

https://www.thisamericanlife.org/561/transcript

TLDR: Toyota would have given away all their secrets but GM didn't learn a damn thing.

34
randomusename 34 points ago

Mary Barra was appointed CEO of GM in the last days of government ownership under the Obama admin. GM is heavily invested in China and their joint venture SAIC-GM to the point that China calls a lot of the shots. They aren't an American company anymore, and don't expect them to help the USA much sadly.

10
slrpnls 10 points ago

GM is more about making Buicks for the Chicoms than about the American consumer. A Toyota or Hyundai is more American made than GM.

6
randomusename 6 points ago

Worst part is they still make most of their profit from North American sales. China profits are less than 1/4 of NA profits, yet they want to import as many cars as they can from China so they can share those profits with their Chinese partners even though there is no need to. During the bailout, SAIC took a 51% ownership of their joint venture, and while on paper they gave that 1% back, GM is a chinese company now.

9

I would have favored a “breaking up” strategy for GM. Make Saturn/Cadillac/Chevy independent spin offs.

That should have been the deal (and the punishment.) We bail out GM and GM spins off those companies to other owners/investment groups.

You’d keep people employed in the new companies, GM would lose market share but stay afloat.

3
slrpnls 3 points ago

They did break apart GMAC from GM and made it into Ally which is still in business and offers competitive rates. I have no doubt if GM had been able to spin off Saturn they'd still be around today.

IdentifyAsAmerican 5 points ago

Ok. Here's a weird story from the other side of the world - Australia.

When we were kids, there were two types of families. General Motors (Holden) families and Ford families.

As kids we used to shit on (figuratively) the cars from the other families and vice versa. It was a pretty fun and pervasive banter.

In the end, it was a pretty weird thing and probably of no consequence in the grand scheme of things, but I've never been more proud to be part of a Ford family. Fuck GM.

4
Tokyo20DrinkingGame 4 points ago

GM really screwed over Holden too. I really loved the Commodores, Monaros, and Maloo Utes.

And I really, really wanted them to bring the Coupe 60 stateside. I would have bought one.

RIP Holden.

I’m not sure, but is it an order for when the government can mandate a factory to produce certain goods in a time of need?

If so, I have a hard time ethically with our government taking over any private enterprise. GM builds shitty products so they’ll go under on their own (like they should have in 2008). I would prefer to see is that the government refuse to do business with GM if they refuse to help at a satisfactory level. No bailouts, no government contracts, and let the PR move kill GM off.

20
rickscarf 20 points ago

The problem with GM going under is there are so many people that make parts for them, and downstream customers like dealerships and rental car companies that rely on their fleet buys to meet their own business forecasts. If GM stops making cars and a rental company doesn't get 20% of its order, it can't meet its own forecast either and regular people won't be able to rent a car as easily or affordably. Dealerships would close and jobs would be lost and the real estate will sit vacant for years. Suppliers, steel mills, would go out of business, many of those have domestic factories.

I'm not against letting GM mail and other fill in the vacuum in the marketplace, but I'm just saying this mess is a lot bigger than just GM

22
1A2A 22 points ago

Toyota, who has plants in the US would happily take over those factories. I own a Subaru Outback that was built in the USA as well, unlike many "American" car/truck companies.

There are tons of companies that would happily take over the shit hole that is GM.

4
RedinaBluestate 4 points ago

GM makes about 9 million vehicles a year. That's about a 1,000 units every hour.

I doubt anyone could/would just "take that over"

5
1A2A 5 points ago

Toyota makes 10 million a year and Honda probably does the same or more, who's to say they wouldn't happily carve up GMs bullshit factories and retool them for superior vehicles that are actually US made?

1
zwiebelsaft 1 point ago

The funny part is that Toyota cuts corners to make those vehicles.

What does that say about GM?

Merely say its funny to hear it touted as "American Made".

2
tombombadil 2 points ago

You said you "gotta keep some perspective", referring to the fact that at one point that company manufactured the torpedo bombers that were used to attack Pearl Harbor. It is an interesting bit of trivia, but not something that needs to be kept in perspective.

There are a lot of the weapons that American companies manufactured that are currently being used against us in the Middle East and by drug cartels in Central and South America. It is not the fault of those American companies that their weapons are being used against America's interest.

Not to mention, Japanese car companies have created countless jobs in America and have helped push the American car industries to be more innovative and successful.

4
1A2A 4 points ago

We fire bombed them into oblivion and then nuked them. The Japanese are better friends to actual US Patriots than probably 70%+ of our "elected" officials.

1
GreatNW 1 point ago (edited)

Sure, not whatsoever hating on Japan (they sure know how to deal with Communist leaders like nobody's business) but it's just funny to hear somebody taunting Subaru as American when they literally designed and produced the torpedo bombers that took out our fleet.

0
1A2A 0 points ago

You sound like a leftist. American's slaughtered Native Americans en masse, purposely infected foreigners with all kinds of various diseases, slaughtered countless Vietnamese over a faked attack on an American ship.

Yea, lots of bad shit has happened in the past, all Japs today who are running Subaru had absolutely zero to do with WW2, sort of like how white people in America have literally zero to do with slavery that occurred in the US.

Quit being a tool. GM fucking blows and happily spits in America's face after we saved them and their horrible management from their rightful destruction. They are building countless factories all over the world while Toyota, Subaru and many other Japanese/Korean auto manufacturers are building factories here in the US.

I'm not saying don't buy Japanese, I've owned Panasonic stock for a long time.

I'm saying it's funny to hear that particular company lauded as "American Made".

15
HilarityComplex 15 points ago

Smaller companies made up of ex GM employ will quickly start up to fill the market. Those supplies will find buyers in those new car companies.

That means more competition, more innovation, more options and price points to fit more specific customer needs.

GM can fail. Let them.

12
thisaintitchief76 12 points ago

Ive been saying this for YEARS now. Let "new GM" fail. Mr. Akerson said it best in 2012: they are "in china, with china, and for china" when it comes to manufacturing. They dont care about us. We gave them the money to move, and they did, and they left us without jobs, and legendary brands.

So many of their garbage vehicles are made there, and shipped here for assembly. And nobody dared to ask them about it. If they went under, the brands that obams and the execs killed off could finally be released from their prison, and be given to companies who want to produce American cars for Americans. Those supply chains would grow, the fleet industry would have more models to choose from, and jobs for those companies would be everywhere. It would more than double the amount of votes for Trump, piss off the unions, destroy the SAIC and FAC financially, and wreck the big wigs. Id fully support seeing a Pontiac or an Oldsmobile made by another auto manufacturer.

2
_TheConsumer_ 2 points ago

Hell, if you brought back Studebaker and made it in America, I’m sure Americans would go crazy for it.

Why aren’t we doing these things? Because we’ve been poisoned to believe that cheaper is better.

Charge me extra or reconfigure your financing schedules to make a deal work. I want to buy American. I want to keep Americans employed.

10
bigdickhangsright 10 points ago

"Too big to fail" and here we are a decade later.

3
DJTrump2020 3 points ago

Seriously. After the whole too big to fail thing went down and we had to bail them out, is seems like the logical next step after the crisis was past would be to break up any company deemed "too big to fail". Turn 1 company into 10 so that if any one of the 10 goes under it doesn't really matter.

1
_TheConsumer_ 1 point ago

“Too big to fail” was Obama’s secret way of saying “government ownership.” He wanted to normalize the idea for us.

Notice how Trump didn’t single out a company and say “Company X is getting Y, government to own Z%” he said “airline industry gets loans and lines of credit.”

9
DisgustedByMisleadia 9 points ago

GM wouldn't have "gone under". They would have gone through an orderly bankruptcy and been able to modify one of the largest causes of their bankruptcy: bloated union contracts.

Instead, GM got propped up and they still have the same problems. And Obama gave about 10% of the "new" GM to the UAW, while the taxpayer lost about $11B on the deal.

5
Deplorable_in_PA 5 points ago

And that was a big criticism of the bailout. It was more a union bailout than anything else. But that was back in the days when the Dems actually cared about unions.

3
MrCappuccino 3 points ago

IIRC, Ford and other companies were willing to buy up parts of GM and then Obama, said nah....i got this...

2
tombombadil 2 points ago

Obama said, “nah I need those votes”.

1
_TheConsumer_ 1 point ago

Obama said “Nah, I can hide tremendous graft and kickbacks in this bailout”

3
RedinaBluestate 3 points ago

I would also suspect that the others could not supply the demand for cars and trucks.

1
rickscarf 1 point ago

Correct, eventually the market would balance out as others ramped up supply to meet demand, but you can't just flip a switch and start producing more vehicles. The businesses that depend on getting new car stock would likely be reeling for at least a year if not more in the wake of a company like GM closing. Contracts are in place and those cars are expected and needed to continue business as usual.

3
donald_zuramp 3 points ago

Under DPA can't the federal government just take over the company and restructure it?

2
WowStrongWinning 2 points ago

I agree with you, there are a lot of downstream impacts that would unfortunately occur. I do think something could happen to help mitigate those impacts would be the purchasing of those factories during liquidation by competitors such as Ford, Tesla, etc. Overall, though yeah it’s not as simple as it may appear.

1
deleted 1 point ago
1
TenFeetHigher 1 point ago

Tesla, a more American company than GM, would likely take over a lot of assets anyway. In fact, Tesla's current main manufacturing facility in Fremont, CA used to be a facility jointly owned by GM and Toyota (NUMMI).

on the surface it feels like that to everyone. however, the Defense Production Act is why you don't speak German... and your ancestors are not in some ash heap in a crematorium...

I don't think this is one of those cases... however, its nice to have something to Ram up these left wing fascist asses if need be.

The Defense Production Act was passed in 1950. I'm pretty sure by then that the krauts were beaten.

8

Well that was the plan so far. He has invoked the defense production act but stopped short of forcing them into production. Giving them a chance to comply, which despite their initial vocal support, are currently failing.

1

I’d bank on Ford before GM.

6

3

Yeah that’s called communism - controlling the means of production. I’m not for that and most Americans are not for that either. I’m not even sure Bernie would go that far.

3
DJTrump2020 3 points ago

That's exactly what our entire economy did during WW2, building planes and tanks at Ford and GM etc.

11
TrumpsPen 11 points ago

I'm guessing he means that maybe he should invoke his presidential powers to force them to make them. I forget the name of the order (Defense Production Act?) that was passed but gives him the ability to force US businesses to do stuff.

So far, he hasn't done that.

To be fair in the automotive world delivering anything that works in 1 month is a miracle. It wasn't that long ago new model year cars and trucks began design 4 years before they were on dealer lots. The industry has worked hard to shorten the product life cycle, I am not sure where it is now.

3

The only option I had on mine was the self driving feature and I don't see the problem with them putting a price tag on software...software is a trillion dollar industry after all...I guess they could just remove the option and charge everyone the extra $4500?

1
Tomx 1 point ago

Range changes are based on the motors during pre-order. I can confirm software range increases are free through over the air updates. Full self driving is totally worth the price too. I dont understand how you think it should be free when they've invested millions/billions into this feature. Either youre confused or you didnt do the research.

-1
JW_Rock -1 points ago

He's referring to battery capacity which has the largest impact on range.

Range is based on motor types at purchase. Any range increases due to updates are due to efficiency gained in software... and theyre free

While I dont buy 'new' cars, I have been a long time owner of GM trucks from the 80s up to 2004. Not a bit disappointed in the quality. Small and midsize trucks, not just big trucks for what its worth. Ive loved every one of them; all have been dead nuts reliable and take a fucking beating from hell. I do meticulously maintain them though. New squeak? Fixed. Whats that rattle? fixed. These things happen with used vehicles no matter who made them so hold the 'squeaks & rattles = POS' comments.

Newer stuff, I dont know about and wont until its about 10-15 years old. I just dont buy new stuff because its overpriced and Im just going to rack up miles quickly. I do about 25k miles per year just driving to work and back, which makes buying a new vehicle useless when its going to have 100k in four short years.

6
Astound 6 points ago

The old GM stuff is great! You would be so dissapointed if you bought a new GM vehicle. Keep yours as long as you can!

1
TehAgent 1 point ago

I am! Ive had my 97 since 2012, put about 140,000 miles on it myself. Runs great at 211k, drives great, lots of upgrades. New suspension in 2018 (did the work myself), other than that its been normal wear items outside of a bad injector and coil pack some time around 2013ish. My GF has a brand new paid for Challenger in the driveway and I COULD buy anything I want, but theres no reason to. (anything within reason, not a Lambo of course) I have reliable transportation that is both fuel efficient and doesnt lose value. I drive like 25,000 miles a year to and from work now, so buying something new is pretty much out of the question. It would be bigly devalued within 4 years.

ITS FUCKING EMBARRASSING, MICHIGAN!

(Kicks garbage can).

But seriously can my state’s elected officials and industry get their shit together? Man up.

10
MichiganMAGAMan 10 points ago (edited)

I rarely see good news about Michigan. And it isn't just Detroit. The amount of fraudulent behavior is ridiculous. The amount of shitty officials that have been elected is ridiculous. This State can be amazing. And is amazing in some areas. But my god we have some the of the shittiest officials and some of the shittiest areas in America. It is so sad. We were so great and fell so hard.

My brother works for Detroit Fire. People wouldn't believe how horrifying that city is. And that is just a piece of the problem here in Michigan. I remember when Mid terms came around and I was pretty sad/mad about how it ended up. Meanwhile my family was kind of non chalant about it because Trump was still President so no big deal. About a year after Mid terms they started to realize how badly the mid terms fucked this state over for another few years until we can turn it around by electing the right officials. Which would just be a start.

MichiganMAGAMan 7 points ago

100%. My dad has always said the same thing. The Democraps have destroyed this state. And it isn't just recent. It goes back quite a ways like you said.

6
Ithrowawaay 6 points ago

“Welcome to Detroit, muthafucka”

-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Dude was an absolute thug off the street, that thought he was way more powerful than a moderate city mayor.

I was interning at a logistics company while still in college at Joy and Schaefer back in 05/06. KK came by for some philanthropy/jobs related public appearance.

He rolled up in four blacked out Cadillac Escalades for him and his twenty person entourage including photographers, plus security in six unmarked crown vics. All tinted out. Three up front, three in the rear.

You would have thought the POTUS was out front.

3
MichiganMAGAMan 3 points ago

lmaooo that was a pretty funny story though. And I'm not surprised either. He was a gangster. And he looked the part. I was still pretty young so I can only read about it. Mary Barra is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Motors Company. She was elected Chairman of the GM Board of Directors on January 4, 2016, and has served as CEO of GM since January 15, 2014.

Under Barra’s leadership, GM envisions a world with zero crashes, to save lives; zero emissions, so future generations can inherit a healthier planet; and zero congestion, so customers get back a precious commodity – time.

She’s focused on strengthening GM’s core business of great cars, trucks and crossovers, while also working to lead the transformation of personal mobility through advanced technologies like connectivity, electrification, autonomous driving and car sharing. Barra has also established a strategic direction based on putting the customer at the center of everything the company does.

Prior to becoming CEO, Barra served as executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing & Supply Chain since August 2013, and as senior vice president, Global Product Development since February 2011. In these roles, Barra and her teams were responsible for the design, engineering and quality of GM vehicle launches worldwide.

Previously, she served as vice president, Global Human Resources; vice president, Global Manufacturing Engineering; plant manager, Detroit Hamtramck Assembly; and in several other executive engineering and staff positions.

Barra began her career with GM in 1980 as a General Motors Institute (Kettering University) co-op student at the Pontiac Motor Division. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1985, followed by a Master of Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1990.

Barra serves on the Board of Directors of the Walt Disney Company, the Stanford University Board of Trustees and the Detroit Economic Club.

She is a member of The Business Council and an At-Large Board Member of the Business Roundtable, where she also serves on the Social Issues Committee.

It's basically a pump/vacuum, connectors, valves and tubes of which vehicles are known to have.

Anyone who does CPR becomes a ventilator. Only problem is you can't do CPR on people indefinitely (hence ventilators) and you'd contract COVID during the process (not ideal)..

Someone could invent manual ventilators using bags and a foot pump/accordion

PelosiHalitosis 2 points ago

Check out AvE on YouTube, he's been getting the Town Hall Pump together. He's on MKIII of the Jankey Ventilator.

Haven't liked GM since they killed off Pontiac. They took a great car (G8) rebranded it as a Chevy (SS) and ruined it

2
ronburgandy 2 points ago

Obama was actually the one that made GM kill off Pontiac to get the bailout. They also killed off Saturn but it was Saturn so nobody cared.

Obama seized GM and stole it from the rightful owners, giving it to the union. Seize it back and flip it to a private company!

Typical Michigan. They have been an embarrassment though all this

3
JBlaze056 3 points ago

"P" likely stands for "Production" as in the Defense Production Act, which allows the President to force industries to enter into contracts to provide materials/goods which are deemed necessary for national defense. He is "Mary B." one more chance to avoid this scenario.

3
Barbieblonde 3 points ago

GM sources everything from China, when it comes to small parts like for ventilators.

GM's only domestic option is the expensive prototype parts process with methods like additive manufacturing for short run injection molds... thus the premium pricing.

Just my two cents.

I'm all for competent women running businesses if they perform well and are accountable, but this one sounds like a diversity hire (like Obama).

Watching these feminist, sjw dominated boardrooms fall apart in the face of a crisis under the weight of all their glass ceiling diversity bullshit will prove one of the most delicious aspects of the great awakening.

GM in 2009 - We're not really "General Motors", we're "General Money" and cars are more of a sideline for us.

And when the financial crisis bit all the "money" firms took a bath. Note that Ford didn't take government money...

But we're General Motors. We're big and important and our shit smells like daffodils. Don't ask us to actually deliver on our PR Department's promises like we're peasants or something.

Tell them you won't buy another GM vehicle unless it disavows China.

Tell them you're going to tell your kid the Camaro and Corvette was made by Ford, and just stolen by GM, because they're Chinese.

2

This would be like companies during WW2 not building weapons and planes because they supported Imperial Japan.

2
ConditionalFeels 2 points ago

Remember when we bailed out the auto industry? We should have done it like the airline industry in the 80s. Ef them.

2
Shroudedf8 2 points ago

He should have delayed the explanation of 'p' for a day or two. It would have caused a firestorm of fake news speculation. But, I'm kinda glad he didn't, since I was wondering what he meant as well.

2
UsurpTheNarrative 2 points ago

Destroying Trump means more to Democrat leaders than people's lives and POTUS, as much as we love him, continues to make poor Human Resources choices. Fuck Bill Barr BTW. Letting all the Traitors walk.

If POTUS wanted those companies doing his bidding he should have made it the Law. He should know better by now!!!!!

If anybody thinks that car manufacturers are going to manufacturer a bunch of ventilators and they won't all be substandard, they are crazy. They don't make medical equipment. A car factory isn't a medical device factory and people who make cars don't know shit about making medical devices.

Companies that actually make ventilators are ramping up, but even they aren't going to pumping out in the numbers that people are saying that we need.

1

They should have let the car companies die in 2009, it's not like bailing them out helped Detroit or Michigan

How many Apple users here had that Seattle Times article pop up as an alert today? I don’t use that propaganda app but my aunt sent it to me this morning. Anyone who can’t see through the manipulation really should have just gotten the virus and passed. Oh wait, it only kills 2-3 percent so even that’s not enough.

1
MerlynTrump 1 point ago

Invoke "P" should be our new line.

I hear Barron's working on his coding: if GM = rip off, then Invoke "P".

1

Much like academia and the media, the left get a foothold in American institutions and ruin them. Now it is corporate America that used to be pro American but they have started putting globalists leftists in charge like Mary Barra. Chick Fil-A is even being cucked.

1

Forget the P. He invoked the rivalry. 😅

Why aren’t we making the cheap open source ventilators instead?

Cost is 370 Euros.

I've seen this type of crap from a lot of the big companies like GE. They go full out consulting H1B's, globalist, diversity, then death. Such a shame, they were once great companies with a lot of great ideas.

1
Nicktdot 1 point ago

He grabbed her by the "P"

1
ShiffsDeadHooker 1 point ago

How about adapting the existing ventilators so that they can do more than one patient at a time. A doctor has already demonstrated this. I'm not sure all models can be adapted as such but supposedly you can run four patients off a single ventilator machine by adding a few simple adapters and hoses/masks.

1
Gabbagabbaheigh 1 point ago

GM is a garbage company. You couldn’t pay me to drive one of their piece of shit death traps.

With everything that I've been hearing about GM lately, was my purchase of a '16 Cruze a bad idea? (it was the last year of the first gen) and everything I've been hearing about GM lately has been bad news, My Cruze has been very reliable, and I actually bought it pre owned from Carmax, and the previous owner seemed to be a rental company.

Only thing that it needs now is front brake work and it's upcoming oil change, but other than that it's been a pretty good car, unlike my 98 200SX which has been a royal pain in my ass,
