Corrupt democrats. They're overpaid as it is, this is just a giant yearly bonus for them. Their bonus here is way more than an entire year's salary for an average American worker. Sickening.

Disgusting abuse of the working class in this legislation. They simply would not pass a bill to make their mandated shutdown less onerous on the taxpayers and businesses affected. Thanks China. And add $40 to the "Uncle Gubment’s Virus Fun Time Wacky Bucks TM” check they steal from my income for others.

But hey! It's okay when WE do it! Now let's all get back to dunking on Bernie for being a cuck and running on a platform of transferring wealth and adding trillions to the national debt.

I've been saying this from the beginning, you want to stimulate the economy through money back to the taxpayers? Whatever amount you were going to send, remove that much from my income taxes. I get the money, people who don't contribute don't.

Edit- I also realize this is different than usual due to trying to help those who are losing jobs, however I still don't believe it's a good move in the long run. Time will tell.

I may be wrong, but I thought part of this package was going lower or eliminate the payroll tax from our work checks for a while.

Does anyone here know if this is indeed part of the bill?

No, it isn't. At least not from the employee side.

1

That was an early idea. I don't think it went anywhere.

1
datascience 1 point ago

Whatever amount you were going to send, remove that much from my income taxes

Thats what they're doing. If you receive a check, you get a tax credit on your tax return for that amount which means you're not paying any taxes on it.

1
Scroon 1 point ago

My understanding of the stim is that it's addressing the cashflow problem. Income tax relief would only help months down the line and require too much "IRS math".

The economy is currently like a manual engine that has its fuel line temporarily blocked. Without a constant fuel feed, the engine stalls and startup will be a bitch.

The best solution to squirt some gas directly into the intake to keep it running for the time it takes to dislodge the blockage.

The income tax solution would be like adding fuel to the tank instead of directly to the engine.

Look at the faggot smallhats responding to this. Right now it's illegal to take action against nonpayment of rent. If a renter takes advantage and just doesn't pay rent, you can't evict them. But now you aren't making enough money to pay your mortgage. Now you lose everything.

So a landlord is fucked. But the banks? No such rules for them. They are absolutely protected. I wonder why.

But hey. "Gimme Gimme Gimme" right, fags? Reducing tax isn't a "gimme" it's "stop taking". Suspending interest isn't a line item on a stimulus bill, it's a pause of usury which enslaves the world.

I'm a single parent. I have money in savings because I've been renting a house in the fucking ghettos for 6 years and living well below my means to save up and buy a house in a nice neighborhood for my kids.

I don't just "have money." I live below my means and saved it for a future goal.

Unfortunately, the fake kung flu panic has lost me my job, and I'm now using my savings for bills, but the point is still valid.

Big diff. Trump will eliminate the debt during his second term. Bernie would double it to buy 3 more houses.

17
leftists_are_trash 17 points ago

I'd like to have your optimism, but the national debt was only increased in his first term, and this just added trillions to it.

If this debt is paid back, the people who received checks will not be paying back the debt. The people who did not receive checks will be paying more taxes.

I would have preferred to see something more like an immediate tax cut and refund of "up to" a thousand dollars per person, so we could limit payments to those who at least contribute enough to the economy to pay federal income tax. Or an interest-free federal loan that all recipients paid back from payroll taxes starting in 2021. But this is just another payment from those who pay federal income tax to those who do not.

leftists_are_trash 13 points ago (edited)

Me too. Unfortunately, deficient spending has proven to be neither a D nor R problem, nor a Swamp nor Trump problem. It is a problem of a government that is too big and consistently overpromises and underdelivers.

Neither side is willing to make the social cuts necessary to reign in spending. We could cut military to $0 and still be deficit spending thanks to social entitlements and programs.

Ideally, Trump would form a western coalition of countries who tell China that any debt they hold of theirs is considered repaid in full due to China's faggotry, thus avoiding a debt downgrade, fucking China the way they've fucked the West, and discharging enough debt that the trillions of additional dollars add a little less to the "pile of trillions" we're saddling future generations with.

china needs to pay

2
DeathBattleFan123 2 points ago

False equivalency.

The government took unilateral action which directly caused individual Americans to lose thousands of dollars each. Now the government is using half its annual budget to give that money back to the people who lost it.

They're doing this to prevent massive unemployment surges and a tidal wave of new people getting onto long-term government programs. This thousand-or-so fun-time-wacky-bucks NOW will save us an order of magnitude more as compared to letting things fall where they fall.

For reasons I don't understand, you're conflating a focused and permanent policy of wealth redistribution with a one-time emergency disaster-relief payout.

Stop it.

0
leftists_are_trash 0 points ago (edited)

I'm not conflating them, because the costs of disaster relief will be primarily repaid by those who already pay more than 70% of total annual federal income tax receipts - in other words, the people who are already paying for the majority of federal social safety net and relief programs. It will not be primarily repaid by those receiving stimulus checks.

The presence of a disaster does not somehow obviate the fact this is ultimately an additional transfer of dollars from the top 10-15% of federal income tax payers to most of the country. If the government had structured it as an interest-free loan to be repaid out of payroll taxes - or better yet, as a one-time additional tax refund from 2019 but only up to $1000 for those who actually paid that much in federal income tax - then it would be less of yet another transfer of federal dollars to those who marginally or do not contribute and more of a "disaster relief for those who are actually contributing to the economy."

tidal wave of new people getting onto long-term government programs

And this is part of the problem - that we have structured government so that no matter what, this happens. It's more debt, more extraction of taxes, and less individual ownership and instead a collective "can't someone else pay for it?" with fiscal responsibility for it all shifted to less than 20% of the population. This is what got us into the debt hole we're in today and it needs to stop.

1
accountable 1 point ago

One way or another, it will stop. I'm hoping it stops with us getting our income back. No I'm not talking about the retarded fucking stimulus. I'm talking about backing taxes down from 50+% to where they should be 2-3%. Also getting all these millions of faggots off welfare. 40+ million motherfuckers on foodstamps alone. ~80% of the budget is social shit that the gov shouldn't be involved with.

I think it's based on individual pay, not split income. I could be wrong but it looked to me to be based on the individual tax payer 2018 income. So If each person makes $75k then they both get the full amount. If one makes $200k and the other makes zero, then I think the person on $0 gets the payment. Doesn't seem right, but I haven't seen anything about split income.

Try not to forget that all the people making between 20k and $75,000 also paid their taxes into this, it's not just your money, genius..

You're acting as if everyone below you getting a check is unemployed and doesn't deserve one.

I fully understand what you're saying and where you're coming from, but you need to remember there are millions of American families that DO work their asses off and simply don't make as much as you and DO need some assistance if this goes on too much longer.

I'm not saying that this is the right way to give that assistance, I'm just giving some perspective.

5
MakeAmericaLegendary 5 points ago

That's not his point. His point is that this entire stimulus bill is redistributing wealth and that people who make "too much" don't receive a dime, even though they pay more taxes than anyone else. Like any government welfare program, the people who are paying into the system are hit harder than the people who don't.

2

My question as well. Please tell me people on welfare and ss, including illegals, aren't getting a check.

Logic would dictate if your income is fixed by the government, then you don't need additional "relief" from the government.

But that implies that this relief bill is anything but money laundering for favors, corporate bailouts, pandering, and ramming socialist legislation through.

I am not an accountant, but I think it means you get a tax break and you get the money upfront. You won't pay "it" back specifically, but if you end up owing the government money this tax break counts as a tax break you got that you shouldn't have gotten and would increase the amount you owe.

If you think there are a lot of people making 100k I’ve got news for you “kid.”

Poor people call this wealthy sometimes.

4
TolandsKin 4 points ago

It all depends on where you live. How do people not understand this? $100k in parts of Texas is really good money...upper middle class. $100k in British Colombia (Canada) or San Francisco and you are sharing a studio apartment with 2 other people and going hungry a couple days a week. Without context, saying $100k means you are wealthy is just as stupid as saying $100k means you are poor. The same job can pay VERY differently depending on the cost-of-living of your city/state. I've met taxi drivers in New York who make $200k a year and are still "poor" because of the fees they have to pay for their licenses and union checks and rent on their tiny house an hour away that they've been saving up for for 15 years. Just suggesting that a certain dollar amount means anything (without context) is a sign if total ignorance around the subject.

2
when_we_win_remember 2 points ago

The person who blows through 200k and the person who blows through 50k end up with the same amount of wealth. Took me a while to figure that out, too, but if you're going to blow it all may as well do it in your 20s when it's fun.

1
BernillaryClanders 1 point ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but earning 100k puts well into the 80th percentile.

Call it what you want, but if you're doing better than 80%+ of the country, that's better than "hardly enough to pay the bills". I'm in that range, and it's not by luck. I don't consider myself "wealthy", but it's comfortable for someone like myself who grew up in a poor, broken household, and is leaving within my means.

It's a one time pay but hilarious. It's amazing the 4D chess. Trump will win for sure if we don't get complacent.

21
eplettner 21 points ago

If that's all they got and some few pennies for refugees then this is totally a win. This is the leanest emergency relief build by far that I have ever seen.

I do see a lot of shills out there that are complaining about the 0.01% in pork that I've been able to find. But if this can restart the economy and possibly get us to 5% GDP when manufacturing comes back from China that makes the deficit totally unimportant and able to be bait paid back relatively quickly. But as any business men will tell you you want to have a fair amount of debt and compared to the rest of the world America's rather debt free. The numbers may seem large but as compared to percentages of production its meaningless.

Yes the democrats are getting a little pocket cash but if that keeps them from putting billions and billions to try and change the country them I'm good with it. I am going to push for him to charge China for this bill since they screwed up the whole response and lied

9
Hillarys_Diaper 9 points ago

U.S Manufacturing has spiked during this time period right? It's almost clockwork dude. World Governments are now like "oooooh wait, the economy!!!!" Morons. This was all coordinated. Trump is truly a victim of circumstance.

10
eplettner 10 points ago

You obviously didn't understand my text. People now want manufacturing back from China, And it's already starting to move back even in these times. Moving manufacturing takes time so won't happen immediately but the effort of building and preparing for manufacturing to move back will cause a huge bump in GDP.

Then we sent China the bill, Take it off R tabs or better yet but just tear up the whole tabs

2

Well...it's his nature. He asked for $$ to help the people of America and they basically said "No!". He had to negotiate through the surrogates of the Senate Repulicans, so didn't really get the deal HE would have achieved. So, now, he will be working on making it a WIN regardless of their squeeze.

14
underthesmellybridge 14 points ago

CALM DOWN. This isn't that much money, even for Congressional salaries. Consider:

The base salary for a member of Congress is $174,000 per year.

There are 435 members of Congress.

$174,000 times 435 is $75.6 million.

So Congress has over $75 million in "salary and expenses," per year, for just the members of the House of Representatives. No benefits. No staff. No office expenses. No electricity. No janitors. Just base pay for the people elected.

It's undeniable that the coronavirus has caused expenses for Congress to go up. Buildings are being cleaned more (requires more staff and materials), they probably purchased a bunch of PPE and medical supplies (at above market-rate prices), and temporary staff are needed to cover for people home sick (whether actually sick or just psychosomatic).

An extra $25 million to cover those expenses is totally reasonable. A bargain, in fact.

If that's all it took to buy their votes, it's a great price!

21
iRubGuacOnMyArmpits 21 points ago

Considering they explicitly state in the bill that none of it will go to Trump's businesses and yet they make sure they themselves get paid, it's disgusting. So Trump's hotel employees and businesses aren't allowed to be paid but congress is. Rules for thee, not for me.

12
underthesmellybridge 12 points ago

That was an easy condition for Trump to accept. His balance sheet is beautiful, he's very under-leveraged, and the Trump companies can get financing from the big banks.

But the condition also applies to the families of members of Congress. Scumbags like Hunter Biden. That going to hurt them.

Trump wins. Again.

-1
Based_Trumpster -1 points ago

Source? I didn't read anything saying it applied to the families of Congressmen.

6
underthesmellybridge 6 points ago

Did you even read the bill? The exact same provision says the President (and his family) and members of congress (and their families):

(3) COVERED INDIVIDUAL.—The term ‘‘covered individual’’ means—

(A) the President, the Vice President, the head of an Executive department, or a Member of Congress; and

(B) the spouse, child, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law, as determined under applicable common law, of an individual described in subparagraph (A).

Serious Question : Where did you find the full text of the bill they passed last night. It isn't on Congress.gov yet that I can see...

3
idm03 3 points ago

https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/748

They stuffed everything into a bill with the original purpose of repealing excise taxes for so-called 'Cadillac health plans,' or in other words, money for the already-rich. Notice that is H.R. 748 - House Resolution 748. Look at the amendments to get at the 'riders.'

2
Old_Nans_Gin_Flask 2 points ago

That's not the final CARE act passed last night.

4
idm03 4 points ago

The vote was to amend and pass the bill linked.

https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/vote_menu_116_2.htm

4
Old_Nans_Gin_Flask 4 points ago

Yes it's Senate amendment 1578 to HR 748, but if you click the S.Amdt 1578 link the Text isn't posted yet.

All the "Final" links I've seen are from NPR, Fox, USA Today etc... and I don't trust those fuckers at all. I guess I will have to keep checking this morning as it passed late.

5
Deplorable_in_PA 5 points ago

Not crazy about this either but "salaries and expenses" could in theory be to cover staff salaries, overtime, extra travel, etc related to this pandemic. And it absolutely pales in comparison to Porkzilla that Pelosi tried to ram through a few days ago. Most importantly the ballot harvesting bullshit has been removed.

My guess is the dems saw the writing on the wall and realized they didn't want to die on the hill of windmill subsidies, etc.

5
WEWLADSDALWEW 5 points ago

That’s politics. It’s good work if you can get it. You could stand on principle and never get anything done, or you can take the best deal you can realistically get and accept that there will sometimes be trade offs. It sucks, but in the words of Dr. Malcolm: “there it is.”

4
MAKEREDDlTGREATAGAlN 4 points ago

Beware fake news. The spend plan has to be approved by the House, but this is NOT for congressional salaries. It's for salaries toward people aiding against the virus.

However, it's not as bad as the shit Pelosi had over the weekend.

3

3

There can be no denying this simple fact: It looks like we are the ones now working for them. They have gone full Marie Antoinette on us ("Let them eat cake!"). They are the damn pandemic in our country. They need to be sprayed with a tankful of "get the hell out" bleach.

3

If I were Trump I'd hold a 2 hour press conference and read out all the pork in the bill. Then I'd say I want to drain the swamp, I don't want to sign this bill, but not at the cost of your lives. I am fighting for you, but now is not the time to fight.

2

And the largest problem. Trump can’t veto something the senate passed 96-0.

2
SuperPlah 2 points ago

Read the bill. Really isn't much pork in there beyond keeping federal institutions afloat. 350$MM for refugees is the worst of it. 25$MM for congress is par for the course and isn't an absurd amount. They always vote themselves a piggy bank for their own press tours about how they saved America and that's all that is.

Huge chunk of the money is going to housing programs. Feel like the amounts are unprecedented.

8 billion for tribal governments feels high, especially with another billion or so set aside for them throughout the rest. Not sure what they typically get compared to DC/territories that got 3 billion.

Any company owned by a member/spouse gets screwed out of all the benefits. Their 'anti-Trump corruption' bill.. but I'm confused because this appears to harm more of their house members than anyone else. Whatever, anti-corruption legislation with some teeth is fine.

The most important part of the bill is all the small-business stuff. Events like this kill off the weak and are big-corps favorite thing. Need to protect small-businesses as they make America. Made in America is going to be king on the other end of this and we don't want conglomerates actually making it all in Mexico and stealing the rebound.

  1. New tax credit based on 2020 taxable income.

  2. Amounts are $1,200 for individual, $2,400 per couple and $500 per dependent.

  3. Income limits are $75,000 for individuals, $112,500 for head of household, and $150,000 for joint returns before a phase out begins. You are completely phased out ($0 credit) at around $99,000 for an individual. Since this is based on adjusted gross income for 2020, your tax planning should start now. If you are right around the cusp of $75-$100k (individual) you may want to consider putting more money into your 401k this year to reduce your tax income and make sure you get more benefit from the credit.

  4. You will receive an advance on your 2020 tax credit based on your 2019 tax income as an estimate for your 2020 tax year. If you haven’t filed 2019 taxes yet you may use your 2018 tax year. If you don’t have either, social security benefits records can be used. No interest will be charged if they overpay you with your advanced payment.

Bill contains money for small business loans that will be considered grants if used for payroll, dispersed through your local bank.

Also still pays people unemployment in amounts larger than their original paychecks in many circumstances. Not good.

Payroll taxes for 2020 are waived on the employer side and are deferred for the next year.

Kennedy center still gets 25 million, those poor souls.

Ballot Harvesting has been removed.

Bill is now on its way back to the House for more shenanigans.

The NYT is not criticising the bill this morning but does seem to want to credit Pelosi with any positives. I imagine this will be the narrative across all mainstream media going forward.

Read this article for more details and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND listening to Ted Cruz's latest Verdict podcast from this morning on the subject.

If you contribute to your 401k that also decreases your "income".

150k for joint that phases out up to 198k, which I imagine you must be filing for your child tax credits. You have the rest of the year to squirrel away income to get your AGI down too. Great time to put more into the 401k-- buy the dip. Plus you're getting 5x500 for the brats-- 4900$ That's twice of what most people will get.
