May I know why you walked away, as in specific reason to walk away in 2016? What policy shift and what circumstance made that happen?

I honestly think Nancy Pelosi is worse. HRC has none of the political instincts of her "husband" WJC, but I do not think she'd be so utterly tone deaf as to present a 1400 page bill for passage full of crap (like reinstating the consent decree ) while Americans are wondering how they'll buy food and pay their bills, plus the small matter of possibly dying.

Segfault 3 points ago +3 / -0

Fireark 37 points ago +37 / -0

Cannot speak for the Pede above, but it was the election. I didn't want to vote for either Clinton or Trump. I was originally just going to spoil my ballot, but there state questions that I wanted to vote on. Cannot vote on just a few things in my state, if one question is left unanswered or spoiled then the entire thing is invalidated.

So I went "Well fuck, now i have to vote for one of these people." Instead of just doing straight D like I had for years, I did some research. (I Really did not like Clinton.) After just a few days I started to learn that everything, and I do mean every single fucking thing, that the media was saying about Trump was a lie.

Dead honest tho, what made me make the switch was that time when a guy in the crowd of one of his rallies tried to kill him. Fucking Trump stood there and stared the lefty loony down until his security ran up and escorted him off stage. Any man willing to stare death in the eye like that is a real leader, no matter what the media or his oponents say about it. Compare that to Bernie, who has allowed protestors to just walk up and take his mic from him during rallies. Several Times.

deleted 17 points ago +17 / -0
Choomguy 6 points ago +6 / -0

Sound reasoning. Trump has proven himself to be a steely eyed missle man with a thousand yard stare.

Fireark 3 points ago +3 / -0

I mean, ultimately we are voting on someone to lead this country to war if required. I don't want someone who fears everything and anything in that position. I want a man of steel, and Trump looking that man in the eye as he struggled ot bring a weapon to bear? Sign of a true leader right there.

For me? I woke up to a lot of things. Watching Bernie run up under Hillary's skirts begging for tendies after she screwed him over, really opened my eyes. Then, I slowly began to realize that is just how the whole party works. Winning, and getting into power is the only thing that matters. Once there, then they do what they do.

After that, it has just been one thing after another. Things I can't unsee. I'm very Libertarian. More Libertarian than most Libertarians. I will, never, look to the Left again. They're just power hungry control freaks. The exact opposite of what I would ever want to see in any office, ever.

WassermanSchultz 16 points ago +17 / -1

The DNC tried to force Hilldawg on me, but she's awful. I predict more people will leave the DNC this year, too, because Biden is losing his marbles. Honestly they shouldn't be doing this to someone who is clearly unwell.

Also DNC's love affair with identity politics is a big, fat, non-starter with me. No thanks.

I'm happy to be in the party of peace and prosperity.

reddditisgay 4 points ago +4 / -0

Toughsky_Shitsky 117 points ago +117 / -0

When you realize that your bank account can't withstand dems' attack on the country in an attempt to bring down Trump.

All politics is personal. The dems now deem everyone in the country to be economically expendable in their quest to defeat the bad orange man. The dem rank and file are going to experience serious economic pain due to the dems TDS.

The natives are getting restless . . . . . This is how revolutions start ... and the next one may very we be started by starving useless idiots.

Bashing the bad orange man was all fun and games until the paychecks vanished, but the monthly bills kept coming.

STEVE_HUFFMANS_BULL 68 points ago +68 / -0

^ This

Virtually every revolution has been on the backs of peasants who just want some goddamn bread or rice or whatever (a notable exception is 1776, which was also ideological in nature, but even that had a lot to do with excessive taxation). Nobody can escape that basic fact forever.

There’s a reason “bread and circuses” exists as a term, and it’s due to the observation that people will put up with basically anything as long as they have food and some kind of entertainment. One’s mostly shut down, and the other may be lost if this situation goes on much longer. At that point, the boogaloo begins. Sic semper tyrannus, motherfuckers

Not to take away from your point but it's worthwhile to consider shutting down liquor stores could basically kill hardcore alcoholics from withdrawal. Yea, most places (and I believe NYC? It's been like a decade since I've been) you can still go get beer or wine at a store but that's not everywhere.

Thereyago 9 points ago +11 / -2

GreatNW 5 points ago +6 / -1

Its literal medicine to many people, like those with seizure disorders and neurological pain/disorders for example.

Yes, its also recreation but the medical system has been rolled into the recreational.

What's wrong with addictive? Alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, arguably sugar and plenty of other habit forming freedoms are allowed no problem, I'm for liberty and personal choice regardless of addictive properties.

Also frankly weed stores are a comedically large part of our economy and state revenue systems here in Oregon, I'm all for anything opposing the hysterical economic halt.

WEWLADSDALWEW 10 points ago +11 / -1

I used to be a strict libertarian until a conservative professor of mine (yes they exist) hit me with the reality that second party victims aren’t the only victims. With drugs, for example. I have children...I love them more than they love themselves. Suppose, God forbid, they were to start doing drugs. The libertarian view is that they’re “not hurting anybody”...but that is very much false. They’d devastate me completely...far worse than if they physically assaulted me or stole from me or something else we do recognize as illegal.

The point is, there really are first and third party victims. You can victimize society (illegal immigration) and you can even victimize yourself. I agree that the government has to be very, very careful about how it deals with these realities, but I no longer believe that it has to stay out of them on principle. Drugs are one example, but not the only one.

Just my take on it.

i'm all for personal liberty too! i love having an opioid crisis and i think they should make every drug legal so more people will express full on liberty and get hooked on man-made chems that will alter their brains in ways they could never predict or imagine before shooting up or snorting for the first time. i'm all for having more people wake up in 20 yrs and wonder what happened to the past 20yrs of their lives, and wish to god they could go back and just NOT DO IT those first few times. but no i mean i'm all for them getting hooked on powerful chemicals they can't understand. because that makes me more about LIBERTY and FREEDOM than people who call themselves 'conservatives'.

i'm a libertarian and i'm actually more conservative than so called conservatives (because i care about getting drugs legal, and our political movement even started with people who believed in open borders, the biggest FREEDOM of all!), so that makes me a great and better person than them. that's what it's all about. i'm totally cool with having a multi-generational drug epidemic. i'm totally fine with going out in public and having society being shittier for EVERYONE, not just the drug users, because of how they have to steal etc to get their fix. it's super awesome. but i'm more about liberty than 'conservatives' and that's what matters.

drugs being legal is one of the main things i care about most, it's one of my top priorities (and of the libertarian party. out of all the things wrong with the country/world they have their priorities straight! LEGALIZE!), because i'm a libertarian and i approve of your right to get fucked up on drugs like a retard forever. do it all day. get hooked. what's wrong with that? what's wrong with you doing it in front of your kids? whats wrong with your kids sniffing pills before they turn 16 because they saw you doing it? NOTHING! in fact it's great because it's just them exercising their FREEDOM. I LOVE IT. every time a teen addict sniffs some pills a bald eagle gets a freedom boner, amirite?

and the fact that i approve of personal liberty makes me better than everyone else. again, it's like we're in a video game or a contest, and it's all about who believes in PERSONAL LIBERTIES most baby, and that's me, the totally non-retarded libertarian person.

oh no did trump just have the military drop a bomb on some evil terrorists!? WAHHHHHHHHHHH

When Obama was president every single time there was a debate about spending or the debt ceiling the first thing he did was attack the poor and elderly. He could have tried to spread the pain but he opted to attack those who were in the least position to tolerate it. They'd then point to Republicans and say 'It's their fault'. Obama literally said compromise was the number the Democrats wanted because they could have easily asked for more and if the Republicans didn't give the Dems everything they wanted they'd just call them obstructionists. Democrats are insane assholes whos sole goal is the accumulation of more power to lord over the serfs and anyone they dislike.

Songofsixpence 21 points ago +21 / -0

Right? I kinda want to troll my Dem friends rn. Everyone ready for Biden to lead us through this mess? Yikes!!!

thisisatestof2 22 points ago +22 / -0

I've watched my dem friends over the last two weeks go from "Drumph Bad, biden good" to "Muy Social Distancing" to "Shut it all down. Everything. Now."

Now that they mostly got their wish, they have gone silent. No more daily virtue singling, "look at me working at home" or "look at me standing 6 feet apart." Almost like they have no idea that actions have consequences.

Aspielogic2 14 points ago +14 / -0

'no idea that actions have consequences' - Exactly.

I'm picturing that girl who stole the Pro-Life sign from a conservative on the University campus. She went from proud and sassy to dumbfounded and crying when Campus Security told her she'd have to go with them for stealing. "No, it's fine, I'll give it back." ..."Sorry, stealing is a crime and my job is to protect this campus from crime"

Mexicola1976 11 points ago +11 / -0

Isn't it hilarious and quite frankly chilling that Dems/Libs who hate Trump and police officers, are asking Literally Hitler to put everything on lockdown- Martial Law, and they want it enforced by the police?

There's got to be a glitch in the Matrix or Dems/Libs have become literal NPC's that are programmed beyond all hope.

thisisatestof2 10 points ago +10 / -0

I have seen them on a local FB group saying too much is still open (every retail business but Target/Walmart type stores, hardware, auto repair/gas, grocery and pharmacy is closed and restaurants are take out only or closed) and that Police need to stop everyone on the road to verify they are out for a government approved reason and fining/arrest/tow cars of people who don't comply.

However it is a Dem gov who did all that. I would imagine they would sing a different tune if Trump did it. Probably have dem AGs file suit as well.

NuclearDreams 6 points ago +6 / -0

How exactly do they imagine people will prove they're heading to Wal-Mart to buy groceries and not to a friend's house for a party where more than 25 people are gathering together? Are we supposed to get government coupons we give the police, or is it going to work like parking validation?

These people can't think beyond one dimension when it comes to their demands. As Andrew Jackson once said: "He has made his decision; now let him enforce it!" There are only so many restrictions that people can tolerate and after a time there will be too many people breaking the rules for police to properly enforce.

Joesf23 14 points ago +14 / -0

Im starting to think the DNC will panic and switch plugs out before the convention...Not sure who they replace him with, but the DNC will fuck it up somehow and sure wont pick bernie. 5000wattsx 5 points ago +5 / -0

The DNC knows that they'll lose most of the moderates if they pick a socialist like Bernie. Most of the Bernouts will still vote D if it means getting Trump out of there especially if AOC backs the eventual nominee like the rest of them.

5000wattsx 13 points ago +13 / -0

For some people, there isn't any hope. I told this one guy how fucked up Biden was and even showed him a video of his most recent gaffes (this was before his interview where he caused Nicole Wallace to lose her shit cracking up when he said it's probably best I don't) and he responds by showing me some videos of Trump he claimed proved that Trump is that much worse.

Also keep in mind that the same people claiming that the GOP is racist are the ones that looked the other way when it came to Governor Blackface and the Canadian PM.

Mustangmark83 6 points ago +6 / -0

They can never defend Biden. So they pull the "Trump is worse" card. I suppose they'll find out when Trump and Biden debate. Although I'm sure they're so far gone into the "vote blue no matter who" mentality that Bidens obvious dementia won't even matter.

Drewniverse 42 points ago +42 / -0

Winning_Bigly 23 points ago +23 / -0

I would think that would go for everyone. The progressives hate the more moderates because they wont go far enough. The moderates hate the progressives because they have gone too far left and only a small fraction of people are on board with socialism. The democrats seem to be holding on by a small string, hating Trump, but that is really proving to be unpopular as well.

MysteriaMaxim 19 points ago +21 / -2

This is how the Republican Party becomes compromised. None of these people are changing tune, just affiliation.

free-money- 15 points ago +15 / -0

Yeah...When I see other countries' political parties, it's basically "far left" and "really far left" at this point. We could go that way if we aren't careful about reinforcing conservative values instead of just being "the other party."

We want new friends, not just enemies of enemies.

When big bills are passed under duress, "we the people" never seem to be the winners.

The real win would have been taking precautionary measures for 15 days and then getting right back to work, especially after finding there's already a cheap, widely available drug that cures it. Minor economic hit at the worst, with quick recovery.

But it's not a sane, rational world we live in, unfortunately, and there are psychopaths who are far more powerful and evil than we'll ever know. Those are the winners when bills like this are passed.

But don't worry about all that, because I'm sure the media machine is already working on the next tragedy du jour as we speak.

SordidPontification 1 point ago +1 / -0

especially after finding there's already a cheap, widely available drug that cures it

Hydroxychloroquine + azithromycin + zinc supplementation looks incredibly promising, but I wouldn't go so far as to suggest it cures COVID-19.

Based on the limited data set available, it looks like it greatly improves outcomes for people who are just at the start of their symptoms. But, I'm not convinced it substantially changes outcomes for people who happen to be hospitalized. Even Dr. Zelenko's letter, while optimistic, was cautious and mentioned pre-hospitalization treatment.

Ideally, we'd have a wider array of drugs that improve outcomes for very sick people. I don't think we're there yet, but we're close.

Most democrats I've ever known in my life have been mostly reasonable people who would identify as somewhat on the middle of the political spectrum and likely feel the same way about current dems. I know people who voted Hillary in 2016 who, last I checked, are just planning to stay home in nov. Communist/SJW virtue signaling in the media (both mainstream and social/alternative) has killed the democratic party and replaced it with a totalitarian Marxism that bears little resemblance to the (expressed) political ideals even of recent democratic candidates.

I've never personally known any of the crazy lefties that dominate the conversation in media, reddit, and Twitter. About the most lefty position I've ever talked with someone about is universal basic income, socialized Healthcare, and student loan forgiveness. Most of those positions find support not from crazy leftist commies, but rather struggling millenials whose lives are a mess and who (mistakenly) think the government giving them things will solve their problems. They're not evil, just foolish.

But the current democratic party and policy is full on Marxist totalitarian depravity. Not a shred of integrity in the party at all. They are a party that explicitly runs on anti-family, anti-worker, anti-American policy. Fuck them. I hope reasonable dems see through the media bullshit enough to not vote for it. We'll see.

The "Democratic" Party right now, only exists because of the long established nepotistic relationship they have with the media. The Media marches more in lockstep with the DNC, than we have seen some media in literal authoritarian nations.

People have been waking up and walking away since they staged (not rigged, or rather so rigged that it can only be considered staged) their own Primary in 2016 for Hillary.

All the shit they've done, all the scandals, all the megascandals, all the petty politicing at the expensive of the average American, all the constant hoaxes, and of course having a man with literal dementia as their front runner, all of it adds up.

Honestly, a total party collapse is possible because of how crooked the "Democratic" party has become, and how fundamentally decent people like Brandon Straka is simply encouraging people to walk away.

The guy that started #WalkAway

Patriot456 3 points ago +3 / -0

Why don't they realize that they can, indeed, quit? Tribalism is a heck of a thing.

Someone gets "R bad, D good" engrained in their head from an early age and it's difficult to change. It's too bad that people feel like their party is their IDENTITY. Lots of psychological stuff to unpack regarding that topic.

I think that perhaps the greatest crime is a party system. I mean, there should only be one party and that party is America. Am I wrong? Instead we have a Congress and a Senate that basically just vote along party lines. In reality it SHOULD just be a bunch of individuals voting with their heart.

Of course you can quit!

But the slave masters don't take too kindly to those who wander off the Demokkkrat plantation, so vigilance and stay strong.

SlickWillie 2 points ago +2 / -0

I didn't know who Brandon Straka was, but I DDG'd it and I'm pleased. He's a "former liberal" who already walked away from the Dems. Very nice.

Magentapede 2 points ago +2 / -0

I walked away when I was in college 20 years ago. Fucking hell I can't imagine even lasting that long now!

Choppermagic 2 points ago +2 / -0
