It was all virtue signalling to begin with. In NY the real deal is to follow the money. For every paper bag used a nickle gets sent to the state. I was rtold by Trader Joes who's papper bags were always free that they charge now because they have to send the nickle to the state. They don't even get to keep it to offset the cost of the paper . bag.

5
MikesBigJockstrap 5 points ago

They can't help themselves but to virtue signal. Their lives are so dull, and personalities are so shit, they make virtue signaling their personality.

Side note: Aldis has always charged for bags. It's why I stopped shopping there, too much hassle. Well, that, and all the preservatives they put in their food. If you buy a pack of ground beef from there, that shit stays red all through for months, and it never fully cooks. Meanwhile, if I buy local or make my own, it'll be good for only 7-10 days, and will start turning after brown after 3-4 days and tastes 10x better.

How many times does leftist legislation end up this way? Could it be their instincts to respond to EVERYTHING emotionally with the purpose of forcing people to act a particular way?

13

It's less about "emotional response" and more about exploiting the "solutions".

Well yeah, just don't be retarded and let your garbage float around your environment. But that's personal responsibility, something democrats struggle with

28
GreatestAmericanEver 28 points ago

I remember when environmentalists encouraged the use of plastic bags to save the trees. Then the third-world showed up to America, and they mostly aren't high IQ enough to properly dispose of their waste, and that's why plastic bags had to be banned.

21
somenobody 21 points ago

Hey, remember that time environmentalists also said we should cover the polar ice caps in tar or soot to melt them and warm the ocean because of global cooling? https://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/1970s-ice-age-scare/

7
GuitarsNwoodcarving 7 points ago

Settled Science!!!!

9
patriotic-noodle 9 points ago

It's funny they even said plastic bags would save the environment to begin with. Sustainable forestry is big business for the paper and lumber industry and keeps wildlife thriving. Literally hundreds of thousands of acres in my state are dedicated to growing Loblolly pines used as pulpwood. But nevermind MUH TREES ARE BEING CUT DOWN :'(

28
donald_zuramp 28 points ago

They've already proven that the vast majority of plastic waste in the ocean, as in almost all of it, comes from Chinese container ships that just dump their trash in international waters while in transit. Not kidding.

It's not you and me. It's not our trash bags or grocery bags or straws or six pack plastic rings. It's the fuckin' Chinese like always.

Why do you think there's so much environmental propaganda guilting western countries? Because it's obfuscation. They want us to tax ourselves into oblivion because we mistakenly take responsibility for THEIR mess.

12
McStainsTumor 12 points ago

Source: https://www.dw.com/en/whose-fault-is-plastic-waste-in-the-ocean/a-49745660

Another study, by the Jambeck Research Group at the University of Georgia, found that mismanaged plastic waste — the sort likely to land in oceans — would barely decrease if Europe and North America cut out all plastic.

Every time I see someone with reusable bags, 95% of the time they are nasty and people just throw everything in one, chicken, apples, canned and dry goods, sliced deli items, dairy items, chuck it all in one bag.

I will use a reusable bag for strictly heavy or bulky dry goods only and run it thru the wash at least twice a month.

2
WindsOfWinter 2 points ago

Why does bag type matter in a store?

3
DisgustedByMisleadia 3 points ago

Reusable bags can be contaminated with the coronavirus, and then spread it around in the store.

But even without the coronavirus, don't put produce or meat in a reusable bag. It can harbor bacteria.

We only use ours for dry items. And we wash them (but not every time).

1
WindsOfWinter 1 point ago

Gotcha. We do a lot of shopping at Aldi and I didn't realize there was any potential problem.

1
DisgustedByMisleadia 1 point ago

I like the reusable bags because they can be loaded up with heavy stuff like cans, bottles, etc. The flimsy single-use plastic bags are a disaster waiting to happen, but I'm careful to only put one or two items. If it's meat or produce, they are immediately discarded afterward.

2
slrpnls 2 points ago

I agree completely. This is kind of annoying for me because I always hated the crappy plastic bags. Guess I'll soon have a lifetime supply of garbage can liners again.

2
stjimmy92 2 points ago

Reusables are also helpful if you’re shopping at a store that lets you scan as you go. No need to bag at the end, just pay and leave.

1
slrpnls 1 point ago

Which reminds me that Aldi charges for bags but this order says they have to give them out for free. I wonder how they'll handle it.

2
Kashim11 2 points ago

The amount of energy used to make on reusable bag you could have made 10K plastic bags.

2
k614 2 points ago

This is from Giant Eagle (Iggle for the Pittsburgh Pedes) (a grocery store in PA, WV, and Ohio)

Previous Announcements

3/24 – Optimizing Checkout Sanitation We’re continuing to take every precaution to ensure the highest levels of sanitization throughout ourstores. To promote a safer and healthier checkout experience for our guests and Team Members, we’re working around the clock to make the following updates to all Giant Eagle, Market District, and GetGo locations:

Installing plexiglass dividers at checkout, Pharmacy, and Customer Service counters.

Installing floor indicators and signage at checkout lanes to show appropriate social distance between guests.

Asking guests to refrain from bringing reusable bags into stores.

Additionally, all guest purchases will be bagged in either single-use plastic bags or paper bags, both of which will be available at no charge. Thank you for your help in keeping our stores safe and providing peace of mind for fellow guests and Team Members.

CA here, went to the grocery store and brought my own bags the other day and they told me I had to pack it myself because of a new policy or buy their own bags and they'd do it for me. 1
SouthpawPede 1 point ago

Let’s be fair, reusable bags are generally a very environmentally friendly thing. Costco and Aldi’s for example, you only go once without bags. Right now? Worst idea lol. We try to reuse our grocery bags for dog poop pickup in the yard and for our smaller bathroom trashcans. That all said, I’m sure plenty of holier than thou liberals put their recycling/environmental practices above their and everyone else’s health, which isn’t good for anyone.

5
accountable 5 points ago

Recycling is a scam. Do the math on the resources it takes to run the trucks, process the garbage, and reman the recovered mats. Ridiculous shit.

1
covfefe-pot 1 point ago

Not when you now have to buy more garbage bags that you yo used to be able to use free bags from the store for.

1
tombombadil 1 point ago

Every Costco I have been to they just reuse the boxes that all of their stuff gets shipped in. No need for reusable bags.

1
accountable 1 point ago

Oh man, do you smell that? What's that smokin' good smell? Capitalism, baby. Pure unadulterated capitalism. Enjoy it, because when the libs find out you're doing something productive, they'll claim the boxes harbor disease or contaminate your products and try to put a stop to it.
