I was surprised he didn’t put the kibosh on Spring Break activities but overall I agree. I mean the whole point of Spring Break is immediate contact with other people...and drunk off your ass doing it.

There's a video floating around of police arresting a bunch of party-goers on the beach, and it claims it's in Miami.

But there's a fucking mountain in the video. Last I checked, Florida has no mountains. Especially not on the coast.

Have you been to the midwest? We basically have a steady 6 inch rise East to West every 100 miles. You guys are spoiled with your hills, but tbf they are barely that.

13
cccpneveragain 13 points ago

So many people not smart enough to notice. I watched the county court here on Sunday they were trying to decide about furthering restrictions. There's all these clowns calling in for comment that people were flooding the malls and the beaches were crowded and we need to put a stop to it. Uh, we don't have beaches here. The malls have been closed for a few days now.

They issued a stay at home order now. It's basically the exact same order except it says to "stay at home" now. I'm sure the libs will eat it all up as they have won for a few days before they call for martial law because someone is walking outside on the sidewalk alone.

3
de9ebkmd7 3 points ago

All of Florida is approximately 0 meters above sea level right?

3
Liberty4All 3 points ago

Not quite! The highest point in FL is 105m above sea level, but that is well inland.

There are large areas of the state near the coasts and in South Florida that are very flat and 5m or less above sea level, and a whole lot more of the state that is <10m below sea level.

There are no hills (other than sand dunes, golf courses, and landfills) anywhere near the coast of Florida.

But hospitals are packed so it must be real! Ohhh...hospitals are packed with people who are scared they have it but apparently 94% don't, so literally the fear about hospitals being overrun was a self fulfilling prophecy. Source: conservativetreehouse

28
Cup_O_Covfefe 28 points ago

A bunch of YouTubers have gone out and videotaped testing locations and hospitals from KY to HI.

They are all empty. There is really something that is not adding up between the media/Democrat hype of "OH MY GOD THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IS COLLAPSING, QUICK, WE NEED COMMUNISM" and what is actually happening.

While a few specific areas devoted to respiratory diseases are struggling to meet capacity, the vast majority of hospitals and testing locations are deserted.

14
The_Litehaus_Abides 14 points ago

I saw that guy from HI doing his report and came away with the feeling that Urgent Care is stealing tax money like crazy.

Their local news staged a huge crowd of people drive-in testing, but in reality there was nobody there. Nobody.

5
thisisatestof2 5 points ago

I saw someone driving by this huge line of cars waiting to get tested in tears crying about "OMG look how serious this is." A later report indicated that at least 90% of those were turned away because they just panicked and showed up when they hear it opened and never had any symptoms, contact with a know positive person, etc.

5
Cup_O_Covfefe 5 points ago

And 95% of Americans have no clue.

If you've got a link on that story I'd love to see it.

3
thisisatestof2 3 points ago

Unfortunately, it wasn't a official news report that linked the two, just a lefty who posted the video to their FB and a few seconds of phone interview from the hospital from a local news station talking bout the need to follow the rules and only show up with a Dr. order to be tested and how it wasted time and PPE.

This was probably a week or so back, and unfortunately I didn't bookmark it.

14
dakin116 14 points ago

Seriously, maybe in NYC where nearly half of all cases are. They are an absolute special case with the unique living/commuting situation in that city. Most of america is single family homes where that kind of spread just won't happen.

Personally think this is still overblown, 400,000 cases with 6,000,000,000 people in the world and this has been going on for months now

6
BakeRatDotWin 6 points ago

using your numbers, that's only 0.0001% of the population.

3
thisisatestof2 3 points ago

I had to go to the ER once due to a possible seizure, luckily it tuned out to be nothing. I remember people walking in with minor cuts, sprained ankle, etc. things that should have been handled at a urgent care or their primary care first. Sure some may need to go the ER in the end, but only a fraction of those.

6
MM_soap 6 points ago

Packed with illegals, 'cause they go to ER instead of doctor.

4
thisisatestof2 4 points ago

CT used to post the number tested and how many positive and negative results came back. I did the math and depending on the day anywhere from 2-8% came back positive and of those only 1-2% ended up in the hospital as a result.

I live in Australia, in Victoria. The far-left Victorian State government has placed everything here into lockdown. For all intents and purposes we may not leave our homes and there are police taskforces out basically bullying anyone who does venture out.

We have a grand total of 466 cases in our state of 6 million people and they've basically declared martial law.

The left is now preaching "stay home, shut down the state, stop the spread" panic. It's a virus, you can't stop the spread. That is what they do. Sure, if you could weld everyone inside their homes for a few months that might work, but say Susie who doesn't have ChiCom Virus gets burned cooking and goes to the ER, then what? Extend it another month?

Sooner or later they can claim, hey we stopped the virus, now get out their and support you local economy. The only thing left will be TacoBell, BK, Dunkin or other drive thru places and the local CVS, WalMart or grocery chain. Every "non-essential" business will have gone under and re-open with huge "GOING OUT OF BUSINESS," "EVERYTHING AT LEAST 30% OFF" signs in the window.

His tweets always reveal where he is headed/leaning in any given situation.

Unless there is some serious game-changer between now and the end of his 15 day period, GEOTUS will recall the CDC recommendation of quarantining every fucking body, and will heavily recommend we all get back to work and just take common-sense precautuons...just like we do every flu season.

17
Yucky 17 points ago

This ^^^

And I believe we can achieve an appropriate balance.

-Everyone back to work except those with pre-existing illness should stay home, especially seniors.

-Everyone must wear a mask in public for the month of April.

-Continued testing etc... for those who need it and show symptoms.

-Wide distribution of the malaria drug combo for when anyone tests positive.

8
Jammerculture 8 points ago

money will beat this virus, money for ventilators, masks, tmporary hospitals etc

Every American worker contributes to this fund

Every american not working takes from this fund.

Seems pretty clear what must be done.

6
741aa 6 points ago

Where you getting the 160m masks?

1
HockeyMom4Trump 1 point ago

Don’t they wear them and toss them out after each patient?

3
JoePCool14 3 points ago

I agree with you on everything except the masks. The masks aren't all that effective and are seriously overkill for most situations.

4
Ant-Man 4 points ago

Nah, they just said that so people wouldn't hoard masks that would otherwise be used my medical staff since there is a limited count. Hell yes they are effective.

4
rickm1122 4 points ago

The problem is more in the fact that people are stupid when they wear a mask they think "I'm fine I have a mask I'm safe now" and then they don't wash their fucking hands, I work at a store even with the outbreak people still don't wash their hands enough, and when they do wash their hands they wash for five seconds and think "that should be fine" the benefit masks give are outweighed by people being stupid beyond belief

3
anduriliamfotw 3 points ago

yeah masks need to stay in the hospitals for the most part.

14
IwantmyCountryback 14 points ago

The thing is the doctors that are saying by next week they will be overwhelmed by cases and not enough beds, etc. This is from an area that only has 4 reported cases so far. It's the waiting for the other shoe to drop. Madness.

7

7
741aa 7 points ago

But today is the day the Hydroxychloroquine/Zpack combos start in earnest, right? So, outside of a 6 day lag, the discharge of patients should help relieve the new source of admitted patients. Also, Cuomo is doing his posturing speeches on the projected numbers based on the 'non'quarantined period prior to last week, and prior to the bigger compassionate use of the 2part medicine combo.

Yesterday's task force addressed the scary projections of numbers, and explained that these numbers all were based/growing on the unchecked anticipation of infection rates. Essentially, opportunism by the chicken littles.

Cuomo nothing to lose by overhyping this crisis and beating up the feds by assistance - but has all kinds of face to lose if he underplays this. So, overhype every day, it is.

About a month ago you had told me on reddit that the Chinese virus was no big deal.

You changed that stance recently and say that its very serious.

So im assuming you dont agree with trump here?

Hope youre safe and dont have it btw!

8
BasedMedicalDoctor 8 points ago

Trump does agree it’s very serious. That’s why he supported shutting things down and is sending in massive ships to NY and CA and building temp hospitals.

The biggest threat isn’t the risk of death from the virus. It’s the degree of contagion + the percentage that require hospitalization. That’s the threat. That’s why I took it serious. That’s why he took it serious.

The risk of personal death isn’t the scary part for most.

IcculusBased9 33 points ago

He's amazing. He never takes his eye off the ball.

When all is said and done, and this bug is vanquished, anybody who tries to paint this man as an incompetent will no longer be taken seriously in polite society. This is the Great Normie Awakening, like it or not, and normies are going to be force-fed shovelfuls of redpills for at least the next month. The Dems cannot stop themselves from publicly destroying their political party because not one fucking person in it has the temerity to stand up to Nancy Pelosi.

Now normal Americans are craving leadership in a way they haven'tsince 9/11, and our man is delivering that in a manner that is undeniably positively translating. We've seen the rising approval numbers....they are now appraising him with their own eyes, not the media filter, and they are comforted by his strenuous efforts on their behalf. Legends are made of this shit. You simply cannot get through to politically disengaged people without a serious catalyst, but when it happens, they catch up fast.

This is, and will be remembered as, President Trump's finest hour.

I sure hope normies get their fill of redpills. Meanwhile Wisconsin just got locked down for 30 DAYS for just over 400 cases and 5 deaths. Try seeing what the unrest does for the people, and what crime looks like, 30 days from now after no one is making any money and they have to get money from somewhere.

Not to mention any functioning drug addicts/alcoholics who are just looking to get their fix and don't have the money to do so anymore... they'll be the first to start robbing and killing.

This is the first taste of socialism, whether they like it or not. The government hands you money to not work, and they're going to see first hand exactly how this plays out.

Wonderful website here to track corona stats -

Notice how it would take a huge catastrophe for our numbers to ever reflect those of Italy, so don't let people scare you to death with that nonsense.

Be careful, be informed, and be concerned, but only you know how best to take care of your own affairs!

5
LiquidAsylum 5 points ago

why does Italy have such a large death toll in comparison?

11
HilarityComplex 11 points ago

The age of their population, socialized medicine, and an induced panic that caused people to overrun the healthcare facilities whether they had coronavirus or not... which also caused a higher infection rate because they all bunched up together with actual sick people.

Their culture is also one of closer personal proximity.

6
residue69 6 points ago

Co-morbidity. In the presser yesterday they said 90% of the deaths in Italy had three or more other diseases.

6
Sumarongi 6 points ago

It’s the way they gather the statistics. They report every single death as a Coronavirus death, whether it was the primary cause or not.

So let’s say I get hit by a car, but they test me for Covid19; I end up in the Coronavirus death stats

14
incogneato 14 points ago

YES

This situation cannot and will not continue. You cannot simply shut down an entire country just because you can't win the bloody election any other way.

Trying to force everything to stay shut so that the economy collapses would only lead to civil unrest and a breakdown of law and order. Which is perfectly fine with the Democrats but the rest of us will NOT let that happen.

I'm in a higher risk group but good God, there are a thousand things out there waiting to kill you every day. Take normal precautions, protect the truly vulnerable, and Get On With Your Lives.

If we don't, the Democrats will succeed into turning the USA into a shithole that they rule. Which is exactly what they want. But we'll see them burn in hell first.

10
ATXGodzilla 10 points ago

I truly believe the Democrat leadership hates this country. They despise the spirit of what this country is.

The average Dem I have no ill will towards. But, after this, the average dem needs to start raising hell. This is not the time to argue or debate the green new deal. This is the time to pick ourself up and get shit done.

I will never consider voting Dem for as long as I live after this. I might not like many people in the GOP, but at least they are going in the right direction. At least Trump knows whats up. I dont know who comes after Trump. I hope they are as bold and proud of American as Trump is though.

The Democrat party is a lost cause.

7
stealthboy 7 points ago

There are now two issues at hand: 1) Stopping the spread of the virus, and 2) destroying the economy. Democrats are pedal-to-the-metal on item number 2. The actual virus doesn't even matter anymore to them.

4
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 4 points ago

It's not just the leadership. Democrat voters have been radicalized into useful idiots who hate our country and every founding principle of our Republic. They want to turn our country into some Euro-socialist shit hole careening down the path to full blown communism. Most Democrats are now openly anti-capitalist authoritarians.

3
ATXGodzilla 3 points ago

Sure. But we all know the Democrat party is not one party. Its really 3.

The Neolibs who like Nancy, HRC, and Biden. These people are not entirely lost but love being in their team. They are the partisans. Their policies are moronic but they mostly give lip service to the far left. They are swayed as all partisans are swayed. Easily controlled. Their problem is they dont know how to cut off the far left without losing their votes.

The centrist union dems are the 2nd group. These are who Trump does well with over time. These are who won the rustbelt for Trump. They are truly good hearted people who are not always up to speed with politics and might not know how deep the corruption goes but they are not dumb. They need time. Trump is doing well with them.

Lastly, the far left. The Bernie supporters. This group is split almost down the middle. Half are misguided but non-violent. The other half are violent and authoritarian. This group is a danger but typically they eat themselves in time. Policy wise, both are pretty dumb.

I think its a mistake to assume the left is all this far left violent group. Doing so will only give the violent communist an in.

I will say this though. There is definitely a growing streak of authoritarianism on the left. Its growing larger every day. So long as the right wing calms itself, this can and is a big advantage to the right wing.

Just be careful. When one party grows, they often have spouts of authoritarianism themselves. We must hold our leaders to the fire when they try to pull anything. Thankfully Trump is on the level. Who comes after him though? No idea. Stay vigilant. If we allow the right to become what the left is becoming, that pendulum will swing far left faster than you could expect. Then we will have 2 authoritarian parties.

Thankfully, the Trump populist movement is alive and well. We must keep it that way. We must not go back to a neocon Bush party. Doing that will only grow the far left.

4
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 4 points ago

Unfortunately I follow a lot of Democrats on social media. I now divide them up into two groups: moderate Democrats, and radical Democrats. The moderate Democrats want us in gulags, the radical Democrats want us dead.

2
ATXGodzilla 2 points ago

I get that but twitter is not real life. Twitter is 2-3% total US population. 2-3% of US politics along with any other citizen of any other nation. The other 97% of Americans are not on twitter. Focusing in on the loud brash morons is playing their game. They want you to do this so you end up as parinoid as them. Same game as the media.

Focus in on real workers who have real issues. Twitter is a scam.

All of twitter proclaimed Brexit wold not happen, that Labour would sweep the Torries in the UK, that Trump would lose in a landslide to Hillary, that Trump would fail in the impeachment hoax, that the US economy would fall the day after Trump won and never recover.

All of this is the exact opposite of what happened in the real world. Just because you disagree or agree with a bubble does not mean you arent in one.

4
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 4 points ago

I'm not talking about Twitter. I'm talking about local Democrats that live in my small town. These are people that I see regularly around town, so it is absolutely real life. Some of these people I've had the misfortune of meeting in person before looking them up on social media. The misleadia has radicalized and demoralized these useful idiots just as Yuri Bezmanov explained in his interview decades ago. It's a bigger problem than most people are prepared to accept.

1
ATXGodzilla 1 point ago

Well, that is a problem. I wonder. Have they said anything to you in person or do they only tweet it?

I ask because I know a few nuts myself but in person they are extremely kind. I have a theory that most people who are nuts vent online but never act out.

I think aspects of the internet are more of a window into our shadows rather than a reflection on who we actually are.

Then again, the shadow is apart of us, even if we dont act on it.

Definitely concerning. Maybe try talking to them in person. See where they are at. I believe if we talked more in person, things could be better.

4
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 4 points ago

They can be friendly enough in person until they figure out that you disagree with them politically. Then they display exactly the same behavior that they do on social media.

One guy I just happened to meet at my local pub when I was out with some friends and he was sitting with people that they knew, so we joined their table. This guy started talking politics right away and proclaimed his support for Antifa and punching Nazis. When I attempted to reason with him that you can't just physically attack people that you disagree with, he doubled down and proclaimed that anyone "preaching genocide" needed to be met with violence. That's just one example of a person I met in real life before I looked them up on social media.

My experience is that social media allows for a clear, unfiltered, and unfettered view into the true nature of a person. Meeting these people in person has only confirmed that for me. Most of the Democrats I know hate all Republicans and openly wish death upon them. Almost every Democrat that I follow on social media has hoped that the Chinese virus kills lots of Republicans. Several of them post death wishes and calls to violence on a daily basis.

Fucking NY thinks they deserve all the ventilators! Cuomo says he will distribute them to the other states when NY is done. He literally says they need 40,000 ventilators now and Trump isn’t doing enough to produce them. WTF is Trump supposed to do? Go to an auto plant, put on some coveralls and work on the line? Sick of this blame crap. Cuomo should have done something sooner.

4
Herecomedatpresident 4 points ago

New Yorkers are out of their fucking minds with the privilege they feel just for living in or around the city. I have family down there and I urged them to consider leaving. We told them the window to come get them was closing (it is closed now btw) but we got "thank you but we know what is best and everyone is really working together, supply chains are working great and the only reason there are so many cases here is because we are so much better at testing than the rest of country" which might be true but then why are they trying to hoard all the ventilators? Also I'm sure they do know what is best and I definitely think this whole thing is way overblown, however being told in one breath that they can always hitch a ride out of the city with bartender friends or catch the train if shit hits the fan and in the next breath that everything is fine because they have apps that keep them informed about local crime is... astonishing.

3
GaiusOrangeJulius 3 points ago

Sounds like a GREAT argument AGAINST hoarding people together in these huge cities.

2
residue69 2 points ago

Alinsky tactic. It's Cuomo's fault they don't have the ventilators in the first place.

NY Gov. Cuomo Rejected Buying Recommended 16,000 Ventilators in 2015 for Pandemic, Established Death Panels and Lottery Instead

Cuomo spent more money than the cost of the ventilators on a solar panel boondoggle, reports former New York Lieutenant Governor Betsy McCaughey (R) in a syndicated column published this past week. McCaughey reports the Cuomo administration decided instead to establish “triage officers” to decide in a crisis who would get a ventilator and who would be left to die.

It has also been reported a ventilator lottery would be an option in a pandemic crisis. Now with the COVID-19 Chinese coronavirus overwhelming New York hospitals, Cuomo is begging for ventilators.

Oh! A lottery! Wait. What do you mean that if you lose you die?

While you're waiting to shuffle off this mortal coil, you can pass the time reading Cuomo's 272 page Ventilator Allocation Guidelines to learn exactly why heads they win, tails you lose.

I’ve been asked at work how long do we think it will be before a tested and completed product is rolled out for mass production. I honestly don’t have a clue.

6
hollow_fang 6 points ago

The anti-malaria drug is going into widespread use in New York as of this morning. By the end of the week we’ll likely have a large enough data set to determine its true effectiveness.

3
MuadDon 3 points ago

The product is done and has been done for a long time. You could call your doctor this second, ask for it, and, if they acquiesced per your symptoms, they could write you a script for it today, assuming it's available at your local pharmacy. What POTUS has been talking about is targeted "on-label use" for CVD-19, and they're rolling that out to NY as of this AM. It's more of a logistical request than anything.

3
SemperFree 3 points ago

Remove the state governors and city mayor's then. They are the ones imposing the unconstitutional shelter in place orders.

The 15 day period was warranted, but the US economy cannot be shutdown or we end up in a depression. I would like to see a 90-day quarantine for every citizen who is compromised no matter their age and those above age 62. Anyone else should go to work following social distancing as much as possible.

Massive amounts of hydroxychoroquine, Zpac and Remdezivir should be manufactured and given to anyone in serious condition. Ventilators, PPE, and respirators should be ramped up BIGLY.

Not_My_Real_Acct_ 1 point ago

This post is going to be super boring, but here's the danger we're facing right now:

Loans are backed by bonds. For instance, if you get a student loan it's backed by a SLAB and if you get a mortgage loan it's backed by a MBS (mortgage backed security.)

Contrary to popular belief, banks really aren't in the business of loaning money, for the most part. They're in the business of processing the transaction. For instance, if you get a home loan from Bank of America, they make their money off the loan processing and then they go sell the loan off to someone who'll package that loan into a security (MBS).

So... the bank holds the loan for days, sometimes hours.

The entity that's 'on the hook' for your loan payments is whoever purchased that Mortgage Backed Security.

A lot of the time, that's a pension.

Therefore, when somebody in Portland doesn't pay the mortgage, they're not 'sticking it to the banks,' they're sticking it to some little old lady in Portland who's retired and receiving a pension. Here's an example : https://nationalmortgageprofessional.com/news/20662/oregon-attorney-general-kroger-sues-bear-stearns-mbs-misrepresentation

Therefore, if renters stop paying their rent en masse, that fucks the landlords, and then the little old lady up the street, that retired teacher, she gets fucked.

But that's not all!

The reason that teens can get a student loan at 4%, and adults can get a mortgage at 3.5%, is because there's faith that they'll pay the money back.

When that faith is shattered, then mortgage rates go UP. The world runs on debt, and all the debt markets operate on the principle that the debt will be repaid. When that goes away, rates go up, and sometimes it's impossible to get loans at all. We saw that 12 years ago; I personally spent five years trying to refinance a home that I had serious equity in. Nobody wanted to loan to me, because the debt markets were FUBAR as home prices fell, year after year. I had a good score and lots of equity, couldn't get a loan.

We are watching this happen in real time; mortgage rates have been rising for three weeks, because the people selling the mortgage backed securities are nervous about getting paid, so they're charging higher rates. RIGHT NOW.

On top of this shit show, the OWNERS of bonds, who bought them YEARS ago, are running out of money. So they're trying to dump the bonds.

This ALSO pushes interest rates up. If you bought a bond in 2015 and you'd expected to live off that interest for 30 years, you're going to be really pissed off when you don't get your money back because Joe Smith down the street didn't pay his mortgage. And it also goes back to fucking over the little old lady on a pension.

And here's the last part...

When interest rates go UP, housing prices go DOWN, and when interest rates go DOWN, housing prices go UP.

Therefore, a rise in rates, due to a bond apocalypse, means that millions of people are going to watch as their homes go underwater.

This is a shit show of cosmic proportions.

In 2008, we had lots of problems with the housing market. But individuals weren't getting completely wiped out, because a lot of people owned a small sliver of their homes. If you bought a home for $300K in 2007, and then found that it was worth $200K in 2009, you had a real incentive to just walk away.

But this time it's different. We have people who are receiving zero income. We have businesses failing left and right. We're seeing jobs go away which will never come back. It's hitting the service sector the hardest; this is a sector of people that are going to have a heck of a time fighting over jobs even when Covid goes away. And we're going to have interest rates go up (it's happening already, check bankrate.com) and that's going to make housing prices go DOWN. So you'll see people lose their jobs, and instead of being able to take out a loan on their biggest asset (their home) they'll be stymied because the bond apocalypse will cause rates to go up, and their home price to go down.

I predict this will be the greatest transfer of wealth from the poor and the middle class to the wealthy that the United States has ever seen. It's going to be ugly.

The only people who will come out ahead are people invested in ultra-safe assets (treasury bonds, precious metals, hard cold cash.)

I currently have 50% of my investments in government bonds and the remainder in Gold. I sold all my stocks a long time ago, this has been coming for nine months:

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/something-snaps-repo-locking-again-overnight-fed-operation-oversubscribed-repo-rate-jumps

1
sequitur20 1 point ago

This is a serious question:

When you invest in gold, do you physically HAVE the gold? Like in coins or something? Or do you just have a promise that someone else has your gold for you?

If it came down to it, how would you spend gold? I can't pay my mortgage with a gold coin - nothing is set up to receive payments like that. Or is the thought that if we were desperate enough to be using gold as currency, then no one will care about your mortgage payment anyway? I'm just imagining cowboys riding around with gold nuggets and wondering how that would translate into modern life.

I have money in both derivatives and physical metals.

The GLD ETF has 46 billion dollars in it. Yes it's theoretically possible that it could go belly up but I have a feeling that the Fed would back stop it before that ever happened.

It's not like the ETF is invested in something with an unpredictable value, like bitcoin. The GLD ETF is invested in physical gold.

You can also exchange it for USD in a matter of seconds, which is nice. I just sold some GLD last week and it took less than 15 seconds to make the trade and I had the cash immediately.

I really have faith in our President that this will happen. I don’t have faith in the governor of my state that he’ll oblige. Everyday I see Cuomo on tv it feels like he’s auditioning for VP or any dem governor out there trying to one up each other.

Another thing do you think he stood back and watched as the commiecrats decided to shut down everything (including what LA County has done which is to close all gun shops) in order to allow them enough rope to hang themselves?

I think so!

We can return to work if we all have masks and access to chloroquine.

Let's do this. MASKS. CHLOROQUINE.

WE JUST CAN'T STOP WINNING, FOLKS! THE TRUMP TRAIN JUST GOT 10 BILLION MPH FASTER!

CURRENT SPEED: 355,799,385,117,000 MPH!

At that rate, it would take approximately 4.716 years to travel to the Andromeda Galaxy (2.5 million light-years)!

Need to just have the elderly protected and those with underlying conditions to quarantine or use masks, or something. This is ridiculous. The market seems to be reacting well to this that this will be over soon

the sooner this hysteria is over, the better. but we HAVE to see cases and deaths decrease. The thing is, many states, like mine in Florida, ARENT LISTENING. Peope are out there not giving a shit.

The redditards REEEEE so hard when you discuss the “dutch model“

Like they literally love anything European or having to do with large scale calculations on who lives or dies made by the government so I don’t see why they wouldn’t love it— other than it’s the sane and logical choice here and Trump is making it....so.

Amen, Mr President.

If we prioritize every life over functioning society we would ban cars.

I think life may start to return to normal in April

THAT’S MY PRESIDENT!!! 🇺🇸

Dsnazzy 1 point ago

I'm listening to DeBlazzio on Fox just ahead of POTUS' live update, setting the stage by telling everyone "the truth" and saying the President is nuts to think we can go back to normal in a few weeks. "We need ventilators....as many as possible!" They are clearly setting up the President for a fall...

I'd love to see their scary numbers compared to the regular flu....I bet there's no comparison. Yes, a lot of people are sick and have died.....many, many more were already dying as usual.

Staying home needs to be voluntary and people should do it if they can. I can and I am. But telling me I will get a misdemeanor if I'm caught "not staying home". Fuck you Governor.

So fucking this. After the 15 day plan. Game on. We have the best medical system on the planet and everyone is 100x more germ conscious. We will thrive again.

This shit needs to stop. Now. Let's start reporting daily deaths from everything—the flu, auto accidents, suicides, etc. Compare that to the CV, and we'll see that we are overreacting hugely.

Only problem is, Trump can't force the states to lift their stupid "stay at home" orders, can he?

Serious question here if someone can ease my fears:

Does the Right just not have a strong Twitter presence in comparison to the Left? And more generally does the Right not have a nearly strong enough Internet presence too?

There is a reason why Trump took the 2016 election despite the all the noise over social media, however I'm fairly new to leaning Right and it makes me uneasy to see such a massive Left response to the majority of Trumps tweets without making me think we just don't have enough forces in the reserves to secure a 2020 win.

We do have a silent majority correct?

Thanks god for president Trump, someone who will stand up to the emotional hysteria. The flu will kill more.

We have been under quarantine for a week, working from home for two now. I have been telling management I am going into the office and have been in many times already, I tell them I’m an engineer and I need to be in office, I can’t do my job 100% by staying at home.

Some followed suit and come into the office, others are playing the card they don’t want to risk getting the virus even though everyone I work with is pretty much under 35. People are taking advantage of this quarantine to have a stay at home vacation. Wonder how many managers will notice what jobs are necessary and what jobs can be cut over the next few months.

This is 100% true. One guy I know is building model cars. Another bunch of them are catching up on Netflix. Meanwhile I'm in a near empty building because I'm essential and then at home on the weekends I get to work on the "honey do" list.

I am wondering how this shutdown will affect long term productivity over the next year or 5 years. I already see how many people I know are seeing just how little work they need to put in to make it seem like they are doing their job well enough. I am wondering if companies can see how many of these positions are redundant or can be done by one worker instead of three. I wonder how many will never go back to working the same way again compared to before the shutdown.

Sure, lots of jobs can be fully done from home with no issues. But lots of people are working from home who need to work from an office because they can’t fully do their job (like me, who has equipment in the office I need to use daily).

slrpnls 1 point ago

There seem to be two schools of thought in this at my work. There's the "I'm going to do as little work as possible" group and then the "This is my chance to show lower middle management that I am a superstar team player."

I understand that everyone wants to work, needs to work. I work for a non-profit so my paychecks are limited as people do not give to non-profits when they aren't getting paid. I get it - I'm in the same situation, bracing myself for the call from my boss telling me that I am laid off.

However - reopening everything without knowing what's going on yet and against all medical advice regardless of political or economic beliefs - makes me very uncomfortable. Scared. I'm not ready to die yet.

However, I had a kidney transplant 18 months ago. Everything has been going well, no problems at all. I work full time, raise a family, travel, volunteer - I'm living life just like you all are. Except I am permanently immunosuppressed. If everyone just jumps back in like normal, this virus - for which we have no cure - is going to spread. Fast. People will die. Lots of them. Including me. There is no "safe" age, gender, race, social status, economic status, education level or health background because this has literally sickened & killed children to the elderly. Yes a lot had underlying issues. But it makes sense they would die first. That's what happens every flu season.

However, what doesn't happen is young healthy people, middle aged healthy people, children, people with minor health issues dying in these numbers. The country of Italy - a first world country - is almost decimated. Spain is in its heels. No one is "safe" because we have no cure and no idea how to kill it beyond washing our hands.

You wouldn't know by looking at me that I'm one of the vulnerable. I look healthy. I actually haven't gotten even a cold the entire time - until 10 days ago when I was diagnosed with Influenza A after feeling like I was suddenly hit by a train.

And I know you guys group 'the sick' into a faceless blob of old, useless people who's lives don't matter. I'm not old. I'm not useless. I'd like to think I matter, at least to some people. I pay taxes I contribute to society. I can't help that I was born with a genetic disorder that ruined my kidneys. I don't smoke/drink and never have. I'm not overweight. I've never used drugs.

I guess what I'm saying is - please remember there are real people behind that faceless blob. And this is dangerous. I'm not one who easily falls for hyperbole and drama at all - I'm actually probably an under-reactor. But I understand the science behind epidemiology, viral loads, disease transmission and the difficulty in treating viral infections. Viruses mutate, they're unpredictable, they're very difficult to treat, they spread quickly and they are shedding before anyone even feels sick. The R0 factor is very high with this. We don't even know if it comes back or if you can be reinfected after getting. We don't know anything. We're all at risk and while some may just get the worst case of the flu they can remember and live, many will die.

I believe it was partially intentional but got out of hand quickly. China is NOT getting better, and if you've seen how people die from this - it's horrific.

Just think about this a little. I know our president wants the best for everyone and he is in a VERY tough situation. But we need to listen to actual science. This isn't like the climate change garbage - this science is peer reviewed and regular health care workers are killing themselves trying to take care of everyone.

Tldr: please be patient and think outside of the box to help come up with a solution that doesn't mean people have to die so someone else gets a paycheck.
