The sad part is you don't even have to be "good" at math. All you need is a fucking calculator, and about 15 seconds.

15
Block_Helen 15 points ago +16 / -1

You don't even need a calculator to know if you're wrong.

That said, I almost started to make the same mistake in my head a couple of days ago and caught myself. And a very smart person I know, who made a ton of money and retired young, also made it.

5
Youtakathecake 5 points ago +5 / -0

It's a little bit like "who's buried in Grant's tomb."

Because the tweet (and the reader) know that Bloomberg spent far too much money and we're therefore primed to be amazed at just how much he spent, it's easy to fall for the bad math.

That said, spending a million dollars/per citizen in the US, goes against common sense and it proves that news media and editors have none.

12
ChicagoforTrump 12 points ago +12 / -0

The truth is he could have given everyone in America about $1.40. Lol. Big difference there woman.

30
Butthurt 30 points ago +31 / -1

Problem is, if everyone got a million dollars today, that would most likely inflate our currency and have pretty shitty consequences for our economy. Most people aren’t gonna start a business with that money and just blow it. If everyone was a millionaire, why wouldn’t people just raise prices on goods and housing?

20
TrumPatriot 20 points ago +20 / -0

Absolutely! I do not want to pay $20 for a loaf of bread thanks....

People often forget this little nugget when in their Utopian dream world of everyone being rich.

10
RapidAsparagus 10 points ago +10 / -0

A lot of them aren't even forgetting. They just don't understand how money works.

16
Ironlabel 16 points ago +16 / -0

Same with minimum wage and yangs retarded universal basic income. The second people started reviving that extra income I was going to increase the rental by 700 dollars. I know other people were going to do the same.

8
Block_Helen 8 points ago +8 / -0

See, that's when the price controls kick in. Those always work well.

2
Kolob 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ahh good ol Richard Nixon, wage and price controls

3
Block_Helen 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yeah, he didn't invent them though. Took bad advice from advisors.

1
Kolob 1 point ago +1 / -0 (edited)

True, still he was a terrible president as was Carter. Those were some rough years.

10
westrock2000 10 points ago +10 / -0

Scarcity is what gives money it's value. If people were payed $0.10 an hour, society could function exactly the same as it does now and being a "thousandaire" would be good life goal.

But since most people have access to a thousand dollars, a million becomes the next goal. Eventually, so many people will have access to a million dollars, that it will be about as impressive as having a "6 figure income" is today (....not that impressive, sadly).

7
DrNilesCrane___ 7 points ago +7 / -0 (edited)

absolutely agreed. Just like raising the minimum wage seems like a great idea, and it does work for a while, but then the rest of society catches up and raises all the other prices to match.

As an aside: Re: six figures not being that impressive anymore. You're right, in bigger cities for sure. That wouldn't get you far in NYC or LA or even Austin anymore. But in my town, the average household income is $40k... If I made six figures, I don't even know what I'd do with all that money!! Haha

3
Kolob 3 points ago +3 / -0

Which is why with progressive taxation people in big cities with high incomes are hurting. We left LA and my husband makes less than half what he used to, but we have a huge house now instead of renting a condo.

3

The GDP of the entire world is ~$90 trillion. There's not enough money in the world to give every American even half a million.

But this is legitimately how the left sees the rich.

But that was not her point. Her point was that he could have used the 500M he spent on his campaign to give each American 1M, and that’s wrong. Would be more like ~$1.50...she should have just gone dark for a bit...even just using that 500M for the bottom 2% would only be like 80 bucks. Pretty sure she should have meant rich people have money - let’s steel it.

AOCsaggyboobs 10 points ago +10 / -0

I get what you are saying but the 150 million gun deaths doesn’t have simple math in the statement, where anyone who has made it to fifth grade can tell you it’s false.

10
deleted 10 points ago +13 / -3
7
Redditiscucked2 7 points ago +7 / -0 (edited)

but u/AOCsaggyboobs is right though, that statement does have simple math included.

it's 500 X vs 350 X in the same sentence. It can be billions, millions, thousands, hundreds .... people, upvotes, bricks, trains etc. it's x compared to x. No need for magnitude awareness etc

Whereas 150 million out of context still requires an understanding of the magnitude of 150 million people or some knowledge of US's population or world population or history (ww2 killed 80 million people)

6
deleted 6 points ago +9 / -3
3
Buce-Nudo 3 points ago +3 / -0 (edited)

There would have to be non-stop rioting all across the U.S. for the numbers to come even remotely close to 150 million in a year. That's about twice as many as were killed in WWII. Come the fuck on, Democrats.

Everyone makes mistakes. That's why pencils have erasers. Stupidity is knowingly making those mistakes without correction. Democrats really are this stupid. She won't correct herself here, just like all the other leftist mathemagicians like Bernie or AOC.

0
Redditiscucked2 0 points ago +1 / -1

still, you're referencing something external you know from your general knowledge. Yes, it's basic stuff but it's external.

500 x > 300 x is the same sentence, no external references needed.

4
AOCsaggyboobs 4 points ago +4 / -0

Exactly, if Biden gave us the US population in the statement then simple math would say “that can’t be right”, but this statement literally takes elementary education to say “that’s wrong”

Is the corrupt media really going to pretend that there is nothing at all wrong with Biden’s mental acuity? This is the best candidate that they could come up with, sad.

14

You're kidding right? They pretended Hillary was healthy all 2016 (ignoring falling down, having seizures, coughing, open wounds on her tongue, not being able to climb stairs, incontinence, shenanigans with body doubles etc) until they reversed direction abruptly and scolded everyone for implying it makes her less fit as a candidate.

They are so fake, so corrupt - always assume the worst from them and it will likely be the path they take.

3
Block_Helen 3 points ago +3 / -0

As long as there is money in politics, there will be people buying and selling influence.

The more powerful the government, the more that influence is worth.

The Constitution protects the right of the people to petition the government with grievances. This is as it should be.

It's the sheer power of the government that's the problem. If Congressman X didn't have any power, his influence wouldn't be worth anything.

I'm also against term limits. You know how the unelected deep state runs everything? It's 100 times worse when Congress is made up of mostly rookies. They become totally dependent on their staff, and the staff are the bad guys.

When the video of the MSNBC autopilots is over the next video features Lindsey Graham - and so I am reminded that he is sneaking around trying to get President Trump to ok yet another amnesty - DACA.

He never held a single one of the hearing he promised us he would.

He has done nothing for us. He allowed COUP PLOTTERS to operate unchecked against us and our president without a single attempt to bring forth the truth.

He allowed years of lies and slander from the democrats, the never-Trumpers and worst of all our constitutionally protected media to deliver BODY BLOW AFTER BODY BLOW to us and our hope for the renewal of America President Trump promised.

Blow after blow unchecked by anyone, though Lindsey Graham made promises to us right to our face.

No, there USED to be 500 people. But 150 Million were killed by gun violence. So now the US has - 149,999,500.

Weird how there's still traffic.

Another funny point is if everyone did actually receive a million dollars no one is going to go back to work flipping burgers for minimum wage. They think this a fix all solution. It would throw the whole system out of whack. Employers would have to pay more everything would cost more. The inflation would make the 1,000,000 worth a tenth of what it is now.

Their solution would probably be to bring in third world slaves/ cheap labor. To quote Kelly Osbourne “who is going to clean our toilets”. Democrats love free shit and slave labor.

The left, ladies and gentlemen:

  • men are women
  • abortions are awesome
  • all cultures are equal
  • the nuclear family is a lie
  • AND NOW: billionaires are quadrillionaires

(3.27 x 10^8)*($1.0 x 10^6) = $3.27 x 10^14 = $327,000,000,000,000

So, Bloomberg spent $327 trillion hahaha. In order to have money left over, he'd have to be a quadrillionaire LMAO

Oh really? A NY Times board member is going on msDNC to complain about too much money in politics? Then why did they take his adds?

How many people had to approve this before it goes on air?

The verified original tweeter, the woman looking giddy that Bloomberg might someday give her $1 million, Brian Williams reading the tweet on air unable to do the math, the editors uploading the tweet image, and the producers overseeing the segment. All of them were too dumb to do basic math.

I’m not very good at the liberal media, left coast, fake news, super justice warrior math! All I just know is old school plus, minus, division and ritmatic math! Does this ciphering work out in today’s alternate reality, multiple genders, gender bender new world order. Can someone please explain because I feel so old and white and left behind!

1
LWGII 1 point ago +1 / -0

Sorry, but those figures are correct. We have learned that 150 million Americans were killed by firearms. Probably the same thing happened last year. So, really there are only about 300 Americans left. Math works out....

A quick search reveals that there are 607 billionaires in the U.S. with a combined net worth of $9.1 trillion. Even if we were to seize and redistribute their assets (all cash, for argument's sake), each American would get $27,828. Not bad, I guess, but taxing billionaires isn't going to save the nation like the Democrats would have people believe.

It’s true

The fact that this useless, lying bag of shit in a suit is even allowed on air tells you all you need to know about the misleadia. The guy lied repeatedly and egregiously for years, spinning fucking tall tales of his exploits and he's still employed by the misleadia and watched by their audience of useful idiots.

When Bloomberg donates to a liberal group like Planned Parenthood or NAACP, he can write that off as a charitable contribution right? So let's say he gives each of those groups $1million, he can deduct $2million from his taxable income and he's paying at a marginal rate of %37 percent. So if he does so, his donation would cost the federal treasury $720,000 in lost tax revenue. Why should regular Americans have to help support wealthy liberals' contributions to left wing organizations. Maybe cap charitable tax deduction at $10,000 like we do with SALT.
