I will say this, if there are witnesses President Trump better get every single witness he wants. Ciaramella, Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, Alexandra Chalupa, ICIG Atkinson who rigged the process so the phony whistleblower's complaint could go forward, etc. Every single person Trump wants. Any Republican who opposes hearing from a Trump witness needs to pay heavily.
There is a sentiment out there that an outright dismissal at the get-go would work for democrats. Yes, the Rs do have their Romney, Collins, etc., etc. but what do you do? Rand Paul says that he thinks the Rs will stick together on impeachment and that there will be no defections. Fingers crossed. We shall see.

The Senate has included a "kill switch" in the impeachment trial rules, so if the Democrats try to veer off course or stall (as they are wont to do) the trial can be shut down.
