It was a long few weeks visiting my parents and siblings. We mostly avoided talking about politics, but one of my mom's friends was visiting and wanted to engage with me. She talked about how hate speech should be banned. When I asked if she supported freedom of speech and the First Amendment she said "yes". Then I told her "Speech that everyone agrees with doesn't need protection because everyone already agrees with it. You can safely say agreeable things in North Korea, after all! The First Amendment has to protect speech that most people disagree with or aren't comfortable with, otherwise it's useless."
She disengaged after that.

Yeah, living in her leftist bubble she probably doesn't even know very many Trump supporters. She isn't used to being challenged for the things she says. It was pretty amazing, actually.
My dad also wanted to talk about impeachment. He honestly thought one of the articles was Obstruction of Justice. I told him it was actually Obstruction of Congress, which means the Executive branch didn't kowtow to the Legislative branch, and the Legislative branch didn't want to wait around for the Judicial branch to sort it out so they filed this bogus article of impeachment. It was very educational for him too. ;)
Similar situation between my father and I. His opening "can you believe this impeachment thing?!?", me "I know right? The most corrupt thing I've ever seen. Its gonna hurt when they see 4 more years in november." Closed that fucking door right then and there.
I think we must be more prepared and educated than Ds.
