People are flawed. Mods, posters, and all us pedes. God bless us everyone.
What in the fuck are you talking about. Put down the eggnog.
So join up. I'm thinking about it. If there were at least 2 mods per 2-3 hour cycle you'd only need a handful to make it work (some thing I used to do modding game-servers).
Most of the names on the modlist appear to have been testers of the site when it was in development according to the days-away count.
The only thing holding me back is self-awareness that I can be an asshole on lousy days (who isn't?) which means I'd have to bow-out or have a stringer I could call-on.
It's not too bad tho - I've seen one troll on Xmas eve still get nuked within 3 hours - which is impressive for Xmas eve for a new site.
I am a web developer and I'm on here a lot during the day because I work from home. I would moderate.
I think making the case of mod malpractice is a bit harsh as the site is still in its infantile stages and does not have the scripting required to auto-mod some posts like the bigger and more financed sites.
I'd be willing. However, I refuse to attack the people trying to make us a better place.
OP: What have you contributed or can contribute? Where's your proposed solution? Or is this just a rant?
I understand your frustration, but there is a way to let them know besides openly airing dirty laundry ala FaceBook style.
This comes off as a liberal attempting to break the will of the site users. Which I am sure is not true.
Volunteer to be a mod or shut up.
The "mods=gods" line of thought is what led to T_D becoming the left's favorite caged animal to show off to the reddit elite.
They have rhe opportunity to show they aren't anyone's puppets anymore with this site.
In addition, maybe instead of censoring questionable viewpoints, you just prove them wrong. If someone says something racist, prove their point wrong. Anti-semitic? Again, prove them wrong.
And if you CAN'T prove them wrong, think about why.
