There are two ways economies can deal with a population declines: import replacements (not an option for Japanese, thankfully); or force corporations to make their work spaces more efficient, so that efficiency per worker increases.

Most US corporations prefer the cheap labor option (hi, Illegals). But, Japan has the pride and integrity not to use such a culture-destroying option.

The Japanese will opt to increase dollars/investment in advanced tech in work places to increase worker productivity instead. It's what the USA should be doing too!
