One of my favorite sayings. And its very true. I use it frequently. Very few of us truly understand how bad things can get first hand. And those of us who do shudder at the thought of that horrible understanding being common knowledge. It is a necessary cycle. Our founding fathers understood this. They knew that someday we would be where we find ourselves now. They made damn sure to have an "insurance policy" in place for when tyrants usurped the soft skin of weak men... the boogaloo.
Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.
