I work for a distributor for sort of a niche market, I'm a receiver and talk to several different truck drivers a day, along with both fedex and ups drivers and there's mainly two things we ever really talk about, the first being the weather, and the other being work.
There has always been a high demand for truck drivers, if you want an excellent career opportunity and have no education then get your CDL, you'll have your pick of jobs. Anyways, about a year ago my company started having this problem where, well we couldn't find anyone to hire and its gotten a little ridiculous. we're lucky if 3 people apply and 1 of them actually shows up to the interview.
Pretty much for the past year, if you simply show up for the interview then the job is yours, even if you seem sketchy and we know you will not at all work out, we are quite literally like "well nobody else showed up, maybe they'll work out?" lol, its kind of hilarious actually. Not to mention we pay a VERY competitive wage, and we cant get quality employees.
For the past year I talk almost everyday with truck drivers who tell me stories about how their companies cant find any good help, how their docks are chaotic because they cant get any good help, there are so many god damn jobs its insane.
Today, which is what sparked me writing this post, the UPS guy comes in delivering a few packages and just starts rambling about how they have no workers and he's driving until he's maxed out on hours and we start talking about how we're in the same boat and tell him about the other drivers telling me the same thing and as he walks out the door he say's...
"You just cant hire anyone, the economy is too big!"
I just smiled and thought to myself 'that's my boy Trump!"
When President Trump said that we will get tired of winning, oh he meant it!

I drove a UPS package car ( brown truck ) in college. Because I was the healthy white male, they put me in the biggest truck -1000 cu ft and gave me a route that was impossible to complete unless I skipped all breaks and ran instead of walked. The chubby minority girl got the smallest truck and an easy residential route. I quit after getting my leg ripped open by a German Shepard and when I called my boss to report the attack she said she didnt care. Just finish your route. Fuck UPS.
