YouTube had the top 10 songs for 10 years 1970 - 1979. They didn’t have the full song; just enough to know what it was.
Abba had a half dozen or more. Bee Gees and others had two or three each. But what was interesting was there was about 5 to 10 legendary songs ... they were never #1. Angie by the Stones, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, etc. They were usually #3 or so but never #1.
And then there was the one hit wonders who were consistently #1. The #1 hit for the year and you would never think of the song nor the person or group who did it ever... Just weird.
I equate this to the quickly changing mood of the public. One year they like The Hustle and then totally and completely forget about it. Meanwhile, real genius and talent gets recognized but only with a luke warm reception and often years or decades after the fact.
This is why you don’t want to elect the leader by popular vote but rather have the public’s impulsive moods filtered so that a more consistent, moderate, even handed system is the result.

Good point. Its the United States of America ... not the United People of America
